Underneath the new bodywork is an all-new 450cc engine. This is the first engine from Royal Enfield with liquid cooling and offers 40bhp and 40Nm. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch as standard. Other features include a colour TFT screen with Google Maps and Bluetooth connectivity. Moreover, it also gets switchable ABS and ride-by-wire throttle.
The Himalayan 450 weighs 196kg; a few kgs lighter than the 411 while the fuel tank capacity is increased to 17 litres. Meanwhile, the X variant packs fewer electronics and it only gets a dual-channel ABS with off-road mode. Further, the new version uses an LCD screen while the standard model retains the Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT display.
The mechanical specifications on both variants include a a 373.27cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, four-valve engine with a dual overhead camshaft. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to deliver a maximum output of 42.9bhp at 9,000rpm and 37Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm.
The hardware, too, is identical on both variants and the 2023 390 Adventure continues to use a trellis frame with a bolted sub-frame. The suspension tasks are handled by 43mm upside-down WP Apex front forks and a 10-step adjustable WP rear mono-shock. The Meanwhile, the braking duties are performed by a 320mm single disc at the front and a 230mm single rotor at the back. Both variants boast a 14.5-litre fuel tank and tip the weighing scale at 177kg (kerb).
