  • Today we lift up a 50 Ton Centurion AVRE TANK.
Using the biggest bits of tree we could get our hands on we set the Centurion down on them.
The reason of this it to clean the tracks and running gear of all soil.
This vehicle is going in the workshop for a full paint Job then its off to USA.

Two things I'd say right off the bat: How tracks really work for things like tanks is really interesting, and honestly I've learnt a lot more just by watching you blokes try to wash the bastard things out than I would in any number of articles on the subject. So not fun for you lot but honestly find someone else willing to demonstrate this sort of thing. Second thing is I work in a tool and die shop that is necessarily full of very very smart people who are ran so ragged by the work they do they can barely articulate what the fuck they're doing most of the time. You only really get clarity from such people when they're about twenty pints in. So three cheers for "definitely probably".

@@neilpinner5750 Maybe ten years or so ago, horse meat, donkey meat, mule meat, goat meat, pork and PROBABLY deer meat etc, were found in many beef mince based prepacked foods. This was from different retailers lower priced product ranges. The testing was by trading standards using DNA species identity to check the mince composition. The problem was traced (apparently) to continental suppliers of the lesser quality conscious kind. This lack of quality standard enforcement and a general lack of respect for consumers by the retailers, meant that the wonderful Shepherds or Cottage pie everyone enjoyed was often not beef mince alone. Hence the hilarious quip at the expense of the Thelwell steed, called Tony the pony.

I've used those massive cowshed hoses for washing equipment at a quarry before working on them. Fitter/welder. Mechanical engineer here in New Zealand. If he had the area, and the money I'd go as far as saying a sump pit. So the wash water could be returned to source and recycled though the system . Therefore, it'll never run dry.

When the current projects are done... you should consider making a work ramp for the tanks. Something to climb the tank on, with hydraulic rams to lift it off and then remove the ramps so you have full access to. Would make all those ops where you have to (inevitably) remove water or engine packs from under the things much easier too.

When I was repairing US Army Tracked Vehicles we had jack stands made to hold them. For the Abrams we used 3/8" plate cut into 4 pyramid shapes with a flat top. The base was 2 feet by 3 feet and the top was 1 foot by 2 feet. They were reinforces on the edges with 1 1/2 inch angle iron but to lighten them and make them forklift moveable we removed the center of the pyramid sides as well as the top, we took about a third of the metal out. Oh, yes the bottoms were solid plate.

Basically he’s not getting enough nutrients from his food so they eat poo as well to try and get more. So it will probably be his diet causing this.

Definitely Probably one of the best videos!! Somewhere on uT is a video showing three Tank Wash set ups. One had a rectangular concrete pond with sloping ends that the tank was driven through, second had the same sort of pond with a number of manned fire monitors around so the tank was fairly well wetted down all over, and the third was a building with a mass of pipework with more sprinkler heads than you'd shake a stick at which the tank was parked in for a while. Don’t think any one of them would have render the tank fit to go to the States though.
About between the second and third wheel on the left hand side is a roundish hatch, I was thinking it might be for evicting spent shell casings but I think I saw something similar on the side of the turret, which would seem to be handier.

Ted’s breath could probably strip the paint off the next vehicle that needs it

So nice to see your partner protecting the ears of your lovely dog Ted ❤😂 with the tank speeding up…..on the spot (excuse any spelling mistakes as I am Dutch)

Thanks. Sadly I enjoyed watching this video inspite of the uncounted number of times I cleaned centurion and leopard tracks for general inspections, tank trains and general maintenance. Didn't have suspended tanks or power washers either. Brings back many a painful and exaserbarating memories. But hey been there and done that

Much safer up on blocks than hydraulic jacks. You're not relying on rubber oil seals to keep it up.

that's how i clean my 1/16th tanks, with 4 old baby food pots under them 🙂and its a great demonstration of the track tension, not much sag at all!

Several years ago I visited JCB when the tele-hoist was a new thing. We were shown the early version. The one that didn’t have the battery under the engine cover which in turn was under the arm. Tricky if one had a less than ideal battery 😂

Great video - nice solution to the problem 🙂
Imagine the carnage if your front wood slipped out while the tracks were doing 40mph 😄...

    • @paulriggers1558
      @paulriggers1558 4 місяці тому

jack your car up, run it at 40mph, + get someone to let the jack down quick...
your car will lurch, then stall, same as that tank... [that is why we have gears for, it will only pull away in 1st, maybe second...]

Further to my earlier comment about dropping logs. I thought your film was excellent. The American vehicle did well despite not having the capacity of the Foden. What a lot of work it is to export a tank. You have a great team around you.

Hell of a job to get that clean enough to pass the clean test , good idea putting it up on big blocks . What happens if the tracks get dirty at the port ? What about a fire truck to use as a tank washer ? Think the army use super pressure washers
