What i like is, even as non pvp andy, if you fight back against someone you lose only a third of your stuff not half. that makes me wanna engage in pvp and really learn my class to defend myself. Thats the right way to deal with pvp.
zybak bro... can't believe i'm seeing you again! i used to watch your wotlk arena vids, many years ago. you inspired me to play feral better back then, later i eventually managed a r1 title in cata. congrats on the physical transformation too. looking forward to all the ashes fun and drama.
I would like to see more quests to help the leveling process, but none of that "hero journey", just a bunch of random NPCs in the middle of nowhere who have quests that help you level up. The grind is fun for a while, but variety is always good, especially if the grind takes 100 or 250 hours.
I think that's the goal. They already have some quests and townboard missions in the game but they were so undertuned that people didn't really do them. I imagine their intention is to have people be able to earn XP through a mix of different activities.
I’ve been following this game since kickstarter and enjoying the alpha so far. What I would love for them to do is ease people back into group content. Let the first 10 levels be a solo experience and get their feet under them then up the difficulty forcing group activities. Classic WoW was great at that with their group quests and dungeons back in the day.
Combat in it current interaction is definitely somewhere in my top 3 of all MMO's which is a good sign for something so early in development. With performance i agree i had 0 noticeable lag/fps drops at all while playing this game, the only time i experienced issues was server side mainly at the starting area which i left super early and didnt have server issues either except the occasionaly mob doing weird shit but that might else. As a higher ping player the game was flawlessly for me compared to say throne and liberty where i walk over uneven ground the game freaks out rubberbanding me constantly to figure out my actualy posisiton hahaha seeing ur name over your head atleast lets to see if you flag purple :P but thats about it, had one situation where i randomly went purple when i was attacked and i didnt hit anyone, turns out it seems your thorns damage rangers get will flag u back cause of the reflected dmg when you are hit.
Imagine if they were forced to release when Crowfall did. Such a drastically better managed development. I think this will be one of those classics that we'll still be talking about/playing in 10 years.
Thanks for sharing your experience. This is the kind of game I’m looking for! So much to do. WoW questing and super linear progression is boring as hell. Make your place in the space!
Hy Zybak, not sure if you heard it yet but there is an option to hide the name above your character. I can't tell you exactly where it is at but I think it was somewhere where you are able to change the colors of different things that are shown.
The corruption stuff sounds like karma from bdo. Shit was not good, the fact you dont get corrupt until you get the kill will lead to griefing, you would get the player low and let the pve mobs get the finishing blow resulting in a pve death.
I've never seen a PvP flagging system that wasn't ultimately abused. Someone is going to figure out how to damage themselves such that additional splash damage or something kills them and they give others corruption so they drop items on death.
I feel like there's going to be so much metagaming "exploits" with the flagging system they'll need to iron out. IE atm players standing unflagged in the middle of huge battles to die to AOE and hand out corruption. It also feels weird if you're attacked, and you try to get away by using a CC or a slow, but then you're flagged and everyone can jump you without repercussions. In Ultima Online, if you attacked a blue (innocent), you'd go grey (criminal) and if the person died within 2 minutes, they could give you a kill count, no matter if they fought back or not. Most importantly, they stayed blue (innocent) so no one else could jump in, kill them and take their stuff just because they fought back against the initial PK/aggressor. Guess we'll see how it pans out!
I can definitely think of some corny strategies surrounding this. However they might be easily mitigatable? You can flag and unflag pretty quickly out of combat so that may mitigate some of the "corruption bomber" strategies...but yea there are absolutely going to be some crazy edge-cases but luckily we have at least 1.5 - 2 years for them to figure it out.
Positives aside, this is not what a game looks like after 7+ years of dedicated development. We can be excited to finally get our hands on it, but let's not be blind to the fact that this game clearly went through an incredibly turbulent development they weren't completely candid about. This game was certainly rebuilt from scratch multiple times in the past 7 years. If they have about 5% of the content, world, mechanics, and features they promised complete 7 years in, I dont know what this game being finished looks like.
yea there were some mistakes, which isnt weird considering its Stevens first game. i would say 90% of what you see in the game right now was made during the last 3 years so considering that, and that they have mainly been focused on building tools rather than assets, i think theyve done a great job
I don't get the PvP example. You gave "You get bullied out of the spot, or you flag up and have a normal pvp battle" as the only two options. But what stops me of staying in the spot, not flagging up? Then they kill me, and corrupt, or have nothing they can do.
If people are attacking while you’re killing mobs then the mobs will kill you. If the mobs kill you then they can still loot your body and they don’t get corruption. To get corruption you have to get the killing blow. This game’s baseline difficulty is so hard that you can’t just have someone smacking you while you farm. You’re going to die and dying in this game is a much bigger deal than in other games due to XP debt, travel time, and partial item loss.
@ Correct. But the penalty for corruption is extremely high including full item loss and stat dampening to near uselessness. On the surface it sounds super abusable but so far based off playing I haven’t seen anyone be able to abuse it in a practical way *YET*
@@ZybakTV Guess time will show! I'm sure if people come up with ways to abuse it - which they will without a doubt, they'd be quick on fixing it up. But yeah, I do wonder how much things you can do by yourself in this game. Of course you'd want to have a guild, and clearly larger scale mob grinding or other pve and pvp content will require grouping, but what about going on a gathering run? collecting up materials for your professions? How contested will materials end up, will getting some high demand things require full squads to protect you, that'd be rather interesting. I definitely look forward the most to the gathering/crafting type of gameplay, and the homesteads and such content.
You were threading water because you were taking on 6+ level packs. Not supposed to do that. It’s not even time efficient I think. But people do it for the challenge and drops. But definitely not the fastest way to level.
If everything must be done in a group how will people who play the game later after release be able to level will ashes only have the player base that comes with the launch of the game because if ppl play later than the launch date and everyone leveled out of the starter zones and they cant kill mobs by themselves or complete quests that require groups
Old school feel. Exactly what sells in 2024 lol. This game is doomed regardless, because its simply built for a playerbase that no longer exists. Game is going to settle in with like 2k players, and then will end up closing up shop after a year.
top 1% pvp in WoW at only 207k followers? i feel someone of that caliber would be more popular.. i might just be in the top 3%and i havent played since start of dragon flight
Everything you listed is stuff that the modern gamer simply doesnt want in games. Thats the issue. People dont want to group. They dont want a challenge. They dont want slow hard leveling. AoC will 100% be adjusted to a casual game, OR itll be dead within a few months.
all that rubberbanding is godawful too, you said to be this good this early on mf its been in alpha since 2014, its just about 2025 beta dont have a start date and theres a beta 1 and 2 if im not mistaken how long are these gonna run for? their asking 100 and planning to do subscriptions too after ward... like come the f on charging the price of 2 full price game to "TEST" and after beta they talked about early access so seriously how effing long will this game actaully take to come out, NOTHING is keeping them from adding things after its launched as with EVERY game nowaday why not do that? charge less get more people or chrage more get less people limit to 3/7 or 5/7 play days for nearly half a year than who know what happens during beta 1 and 2
For an alpha test I'm pretty impressed. The game at the very least is not coming out for 1.5-2 years according to their own projections. That's a lot of time to iterate and polish things especially with the baseline systems already in place.
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh I have to join a guild in a mmorpg wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, game is dead because i can't talk to people in a social game and join with other people wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Guess you didn't listen to him, you can solo. The game will have quite a bit of group content. How about you listen and do a little bit of research before going full blown dramatic bitch?
This is a criticism I just don’t get. I think the game looks pretty incredible. Maybe this is one of those things that doesn’t translate to UA-cam due to video bitrate constraints and phone screens.

Dude I haven't seen one of your videos since the wildstar days - you are looking good!
finally a reviewer playing Tank. It seems the combat is much less UI focused and much more visually telegraphed then other mmos, great!!
Great video Zybak. Solid points and feedback man. Glad to see you doing content.
Amazing feedback. I hope Steven and the team get to see this and take some notes on the valid points you offered.
I am already obsessed with this game. It’s been a long time that I felt this way about an MMO. I love how social and group focused it is!
Finally!!! Someone with actual mmorpg knowledge. Saw 3 videos with kids talking about this game dunno what mmorpgs are. OG reviews are so worth it! 👏👏
Finally a MMORPG that delivers on a real adventure in the world, not a lobby of different queued games
Those games dont succeed now a days though. They are making a game for a playerbase that doesnt exist.

Things you can or should do in the game should be directed to player by the gameplay itself not the pop-up UI elements.
