I have a weatherby vanguard 2 with the same factory 2 stage trigger and installed a gun-bloke trigger spring kit ($20) and now she breaks right at 1 lb. It was easy to install and easy to follow instructions. Well worth the money and they come in different pull weights 2.5,2.0,1.5,1.0 lb , I got the lightest and I’m extremely happy with it.
I got the same results by cutting 1 coil. I still prefer the factory single stage that was offered before the HACT, wish I could find a couple more of those...
I also installed a 1.5lb spring kit from Gunbloke off ebay. Cost me about $15.00 and made a huge improvement. I would have liked to have a Timney but can't see there being a $140.00 improvement over what I have now.
You've done a remarkable job with that rifle, very impressive. I am considering a Howa 1500 in the future, so a Timney trigger might be in the bucket list too. Cheers.
I have an older ( 10 years or so ) heavy barrel Howa in 22-250 mounted in a Boyd's laminated varmiter stock I too took the factory trigger off and replaced it with a timney trigger the rifle shoots like a dream
Very cool changes to this Howa. The amount of overhaul is extensive to get this rifle where you want it. It is interesting to see its transformation through the videos.
wonder what the overall cost added up to vs just buying a more custom rifle from the start. I've personally been down this road, years ago with my Rem700 SPS varmint... costs add up!
I recently bought an older production 1500 from before they came out with the HACT 2-stage... probably a 6 lbs, gritty, stagey single stage trigger. Upgraded to a Rifle Basix drop-in and now it’s an absolute joy shoot. Trigger upgrades are probably the bang-for-your-buck mod you can do.
What you described is exactly how mine feels. I describe it like it feels like there's sand in the trigger... horrible. And it's very stiff. Can't wait to try the timney drop in when it gets here Tomorrow!
I have a 1500 and I just did a spring replacement kit and its crisp and 1.5-2 pound break. Would love to see the comparisons between this Timney and a just doing a spring change out.
I have a Howa 1500 in .243 win. It shoots 87gr Vmax and Nosler 70gr ballistic tips through the same hole. 5 shot groups. Dont think a Timney is going to make much of a difference. I love the hact trigger. Maybe its because im used to Lee-Enfield .303 triggers😲
Keep the h.a.c.t, remove the trigger and actuator, clip 1.5 - 2 coils on the actuator spring and adjust the tension screw if needed. Save yourself $150. Howa made a great trigger out the box.
just modified the trigger on mine, snipped 1 ring of the trigger spring , stretched it back to origibal length and heated up both ends of the spring to take some of the power out of the spring . and its now just right at 2lbs pull
I just changed out the spring in mine with a spring kit from Gunbloke on eBay, I like a 2 stage trigger and now it releases at 1•5lb, total cost was about $22, winning😉
I have the gunbloke 1.0lb spring kit and it works and feels great, still retains crispness and with repeated blows from a wooden mallet to the barrel and action resulted in zero malfunctions, I like my triggers light crisp and safe.
I have a howa 1500 in 6.5 creedmoor and I really like the stock trigger. The rifle is shooting very well, probably better than I can but I need to work up some loads to find my best powder charge. But I need a chrono for this too... Really good to see you are enjoying your howa now...
wonder what the overall cost added up to vs just buying a more custom rifle from the start. I've personally been down this road, years ago with my Rem700 SPS varmint... costs add up!
The HACT triggers by HOWA have been fantastic and with spring changes you can get reliable/safe triggers down to the 1.5 lb range....problem solved, although nothing wrong with Timney products.
I did the same as many and changed the springs and polished the sears. Can now get the trigger safely down to half a pound if I want too. Cost me $22 Australian. Way less than a Timney. Timney triggers have their place but not to replace the HACT triggers, just my opinion.
Eagerly awaiting the arrival of my timneybtrigger tomorrow for my howa 1500. I just couldn't handle the factory trigger anymore. Felt like I was pulling it through sand. The rifle is a .270 caliber.
All you needed to do was tighten the adjustment screw to take out all creep, then cut 1 coil off the trigger spring. Then you'd have a glass rod break at 1.5 lbs...
I just added a Timney trigger to my Howa 1500. I purchased a 2ld trigger. Im not that much of a fan of the feel of it. It feels heavier than 2 lbs and not much of an improvement over the stock trigger. Im going to try adjusting it down like you showed in the video. I wish the safty was still 3 position. Its not ideal for hunting.
im sorry to ask what may be a dumb question, but, did you change the chassis? love the detail and expertise, its like watching an astronaut work when one flies paper planes :)
The howa, and smith wesson 1500 basic same gun. My uncle has one got to play with it, that thing impressed me with 130 grn nosler it will shoot under a .50 at 100 with 5 shot group.
Did you try adjusting the factory trigger? Did you try shortening or changing either spring in the factory trigger? I did take one loop off the main trigger spring in my Howa 1500 factory trigger and am pleased with the results. I don't have a trigger scale to measure the results but it felt a lot better, not the lawyer trigger that shipped with my 1500,
I bet you can get the trigger down to 1.25 lbs or slightly less without slamfire. Timney is just being cautious due to liability issues. Would be good to perform tests at 1 or 1.25 lbs and test for slamfire
Just ordered a new trigger for my Howa 1500 in .223 earlier today. Went for a Rifle Basix to try something else (already have a Timney in my Remington 700). The old (pre-HACT) I have on my Howa 1500 in .270 is nice and light, but the new HACT is a bit to heavy for my taste.
I just put the Timney trigger on my Remington 783 MDT XRS stock. Safety hits the stock had to do a little grinding to get it to fit. else-wise awesome trigger! 👍 Did you have that problem with the Howa Timney trigger? Love the Chanel!
So basically all that's left of the original is the bolt and the chamber? That's not a build, that's a replacement. Will you construct another out of your spare parts?
if the trigger does not completely clear the sear during discharge, there is no point getting it. the interference between the sear and the lower portion of the hammer causes an inconsistent primer strike. there are some old rifles with awful triggers, but the design cleanly clears on release, leading to an impressive consistency. trigger pull weight is relatively pointless if the trigger doesnt do its job.
I have a Howa 1500 chambered in 300 WM. The Hoag stock is not satisfactory, far too flexible for long range precision. Just looked at the KRG product line. Nothing there for the LA. Any alternates that you might suggest for the Howa 1500 LA? I am attempting to get into LR shooting on a retirement budget. The gun was left to me and would like to use it as a trainer. Thanks in advance for any help.
U said in a past video, you bedded the action. I have bin fighting some of the same issues with same set up, not wanting to give up on the barrel yet. I notices the poor fit of the action in the stock also so i bedded the action but have not had the weather to test it out. Did you bed after the barrel? Do you think it was more so barrel or bedding? Thanks
bought the howa oryx in 6.5 creed. took it to the range got it zeroed in about 9 shots. hit the 500 yard, too easy not even a miss, took it to the 1000yd after qualifying to use the 1000yd range... hit 3 out of 4 shots. for a box gun and just throwing a scope on it I was insanely impressed. i've heard some of the howa stuff can be hit or miss, but i certainly got a hit.... and 1 miss .... get it .... cause i threw one shot at 1000 .... its a good gun.... k bye
wait, you said it was a 1/4 moa rifle once the barrel was replaced. then you drop in this trigger and it goes from 0.25 to 0.35moa.....and thats good? lol
That's a great question however I wonder if the small group was due to him shooting and extremely cold and snowy weather? This may have caused the barrel to not heat up therefore keeping a tighter grouping. Your observation is interesting.
You need longer hair for your opening music. I have short short hair and when rocking out, it doesn't have the same effect as if I had an 80s rock band hair. Or hair like chicks from Boney lake still have.
Did this same build with a Howa 6.5 Creedmoor, KRG Bravo Stock, Area 419 Muzzle Brake and finalized it with the Timney 609 Trigger. Been shooting 1/2 inch groups at 100 Yards and 8 to 10 inch groups at 1000. Would you recommend a barrel change?
I have used Timney, Trigger Tech, and Jewel triggers. All of which are well better than factory anything. I also used the MCarbo spring kit in my T/C because no one offered a replacement. It worked very well and was a great price. I add the cost of a replacement trigger anytime I buy a rifle. Factory triggers are horrible.
By your comment I will bet you never actually tried out a HACT factory trigger on a Howa. Fine trigger, but 3 lbs....a spring kit can fix that and still be reliable.
Subs in Timney trigger - shoots larger group than last video with factory trigger (tho last video was with suppressor, and said muzzle brake opens group up). Viewers: so it didn't tighten your groups? UR: well it feels nice, I'm confident, check out my link, please keep sending me Triggers, Timney
This is no longer a Howa 1500. Just like when you buy a Remington 700 action and custom build it you don't say hey here's my Remington 700. I love the pursuit of making complete factory rifles shoot 1/2 moa. I have a Savage 110 6.5 that shoots 1/2 I have a Ruger American Predator in 308 shoots 1/2. Both are factory well to be honest the Ruger has a magpul stock on it. Oh and buy the way stock triggers in both.
I get similar if noy better with my stock mossberg mvp 223, savage fv12 6.5 creedmoor, Sako robotech pro 30-06 and tikka t3x varmint 308 at 100yards my own loads! the setup is all factory ready. paid 650$ canadian for mossberg, 380$ savage, and 1400$ tikka and sako each. you don't need all that blows and whistles to be .3 inch group. you need a good rifle excellent reloading skills and be a very good shot. my 22lr cz 455 ultra match gets me .5 inch group of 10 rounds in 100yards "most of the times" if its not windy and I don't have control over cci blazers laoding process. by the way, you got a great rifle, I am not bashing that. but don't get lost into being all fancy and high tech. not everyone gets free products like you....!
I have a weatherby vanguard 2 with the same factory 2 stage trigger and installed a gun-bloke trigger spring kit ($20) and now she breaks right at 1 lb. How is it. I feel like 1 lb is too light haha. Thinking of ordering the kit.
I got the same results by cutting 1 coil. I still prefer the factory single stage that was offered before the HACT, wish I could find a couple more of those...

Love the build. I have a 1500 in 22-250 and considering a rebarrel/restock/retrigger job myself. You have given me much food for thought.

Would you mind sharing some of the approx prices you would have to pay for what was done or added from a consumer perspective?

A good trigger makes a world of difference. The one thing I could never stand was a crappy trigger. I don t have a howa yet but I will soon.

Very awesome! Hey Gavin you should come out to Utah in March and do the Long Range Shooters of Utah long range shooting class. It’s 2 days!

Does the timney still have 3 position saftey
Just bought one .see how it goes
Got my timmney trigger just waiting on mAh bottom metal and my Howa will be ready, timmney is a pleasure to do business with!
I take it it's only for the Howa 1500 and not the Mini action? I'm looking to change out my stock trigger in the Grendel Mini 1500.
Should be fine in the mini as the factory trigger has the same part number in the magnum/long action, short action and mini
Thank you so muh for this!
Does the 3 position safety still function with that trigger?

Not a lot of Howa left on that Howa...next an after market bolt? 😆 You could build a sweet little Howa with your spare parts 👌
Sooo is it still a howa? What’s left?
Question: will the same Timney compatibly fit into a Howa American Flag chassis?
if the trigger does not completely clear the sear during discharge, there is no point getting it.

Very cool but what would it take to get a stock trigger down to 1.5 pounds????
Spring kit will get it to 1.5" I noticed that at 1.5 there is lots of creep tho.
No triggertech?
Thanks.,.
What barrel is that? Is there another video for that upgrade? Thanks!
