Why does the curve keep inverting and then overly curve? Sorry I know these aren’t the right terms but I’m curious. It looks like a fish eye lens. Why aren’t there any videos from space that use normal cameras?
wide-angle lenses are simply better for capturing as much as possible in one shot. you can find videos that don't use a wide angle lens, but you will have to look for them. one good recommendation I have is a video by Kip Daugirdas, where he sends an amatuer rocket to about 56 miles up.
What is the mm lens being used to view the horizon? It appears the balloon made it to 111,726 feet, or about 21 miles (18 nautical miles) before the pressure caused it to fail? (Polyethylene material?) So its about 10X less in altitude of a "Standard" Space Shuttle orbit is about 120 - 320 nautical miles (729,000 - 1,900,000 ft). Do you know how high a "civilian" balloon is capable of going?
yes that's correct very much in the stratosphere en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratosphere#/media/File:Atmosphere_layers-en.svg . I believe the highest altitude achieved by hobbyists in the UK is about 45,000m ukhas.org.uk/doku.php?id=general:uk_records
@@HIGHALT you need to send up a couple of go pro 11s filming in 4k would be amazing to see that if u need any help in funds to make it happen give me a holla 👍🏼
I have a couple screenshots of this video that have caught my attention. Can anyone explain this line thats zooming across a section of this video around 16km
Its the string from the parachute to the remains of the balloon. Because the balloon popped rather than shred, there was a significant amount of balloon mass left (approx 1kg) which meant that it was falling faster than the payload under the parachute. This is why it starts to be seen in the main camera, and ultimately entangles the parachute.

Why have you mentioned anything about 'space'?
There are plenty of pictures from space of earth that use rectilinear lens
Great video from the stratosphere!

Hello Andrew. Really loved your work ! I was planning on doing a similar experiment myself and I've just had few questions. Where can I contact you?

@@HIGHALT Thank you. So did you use a 28mm, 35 mm lens, etc? The UK link also does not speak of the lens equipment.
