      Harlem is The Mecca of Black American culture. Starting from back in the Harlem Renaissance. Harlem is definitely a vibe. It's a bit different now because of the gentrification. You should have experienced it back in the late 80's to mid 90's.

    I grew up in Drew Hamilton and Polo Grounds, my dad retired from Drew Hamilton projects Housing Authority, born and raised in Harlem hospital in 1985. I lived in 2698 on the 6 floor. I lived in 2937 in Polo on the 28th floor. Each building has 31 floors. I loved growing up in Harlem and it really didnt seem as bad as they making it seem, maybe because my family was known so i was untouched.

    These hoods were slaughter houses from 70-99. NYC changed a lot but it’s pretty dangerous again. But they influenced the world with style, music , culture, film. Dapper Dan made it to Gucci.

    11:14: To clarify what he was saying is basically Harlem is what Kingston is to Jamaica and the Bronx is what Spanish Town is to Jamaica. Kingston is small and whenever civilians get caught up in the law there, they run to Spanish Town because it’s huge city and whenever civilians get caught up in the law in Spanish Town, they hideout in Kingston.

    Me living in jersey I love going to harlem. Out of all boroughs Harlem(Manhattan) just gives me more of a thrill. Its the fine chocolate bunnies/women and the soul food spots for me. 💯👌🏿

      I’m born n raised in Paterson New Jersey im 38 now and been living in nyc the last 10 years this my second home I LOVE NYC.. I live in the Lower East Side now for 6 years the first 4 years I been in the south Bronx first 156&jackson then moved to upper East side/Spanish Harlem 96&2... jersey is just too hectic especially where I’m from in Paterson aka Pakistan it’s too small with too many people and they shootin like there ain’t no laws out that bitch.. I have a family to support and kids to raise and they more than good over here💯 shout out the whole HARLEM LES BX BK QUEENS

    Yo, I just ran up on this. I was a NYPD Housing Cop class of 1981 assigned to PSA 6 when it was in Drew Hamilton Houses. This is when Harlem was straight gully. Yo, I watched 145st get taken over by the Spangler Jamaican posse. Now I'm watching white people skip down Edgecombe like everything is gravy. Harlem is in my blood no matter where I live. I was born in Manhattanville Projects. Raised in The Bronx. My parents were born and raised in Harlem. Hell, my father was Mr. Harlem Y (bodybuilding) 1960. HARLEM STAND UP!

      That's my old area. But I'm from St. Albans. Would take the bus through to the 169 or Parsons subway. Now buses go to Archer where the E and L are. Jamaica Av is big shopping center.

    I’m from Chicago and my mom moved to Canarsie when I was 15. Biggest difference in the two cities is that people from NY focused on the come up and that bread, I can’t say the same for the people in the Chi.

    In the 80s and 90s, Harlem used to be DOPE...all of NY was.... used to be so many people outside all day and night 🌙 never a dull moment there. Most African Americans and Puerto Ricans moved south, the swag left with them !!

    I'm from Oakland and stayed on 7th and 126 right across from saint nicks and around the corner from the Apollo. Walked all the way up 7th to the Rucker and over the bridge to the Bronx, checked out Yankee stadium and then came back down 8th to 126.... Walked from Spanish Harlem late night back to my spot, passed Manhattan PJs and all the rest... NYC ain't nearly as dangerous as it was.
