    Can you use S1/S2 serial communication between ODU and IDU, but with traditional 24V thermostat? Or if you opt for a thermostat, do you have to use 24v all the way around?

    setting up for communication according to the manual only connects S1 and S2 from outside to inside, does that mean no other connections are needed? OR are there other connections needed when setting up for communication? why would someone not set it up for communication if that's the most efficient?

    OK, you just showed the outside unit. That outside unit is not the thermostat. How about you actually show what to do inside the house?
