  • Replaced our old R-22 Goodman 3 Ton heat pump w/Aux heat with the 4 Ton 16 SEER ACiQ Variable Speed Heat Pump and Air Conditioner Split System w/ Extreme Heat. Purchased from HVAC Direct, quick and simple, arrived within a week on a well packaged palette.
    Aux heat was deleted, so I did not get the heat strip. Going to see if the hyper heat lives true and heats even when it is -22F outside. It never gets colder than 20F here, and avg winter low temps are around 30/40s.
    Equipment: ACiQ-48-AHB / ACiQ-48-HPB (4 ton) [ Made by Midea, also branded as Mr Cool, Carrier Crossover Heat Pump, Cooper & Hunter, as well as others ]
    Thermostat: ecobee New Smart Thermostat Premium with Smart Sensor (2H/2C)
    See Winter Update Video: • ACiQ Central Extreme /...
    VIDEO AFTER THOUGHTS:
    ACiQ said they’d update their documentation to explain the SW1 dip switches better in the air handler for a 3rd party 24v thermostat. To clarify, we had to switch SW1-1 and SW1-4 dip switches both to the ON position, in the air handler, in order to use a 24v thermostat. In my case I have the Ecobee which runs the unit in 2 stage heat, and 2 stage cool. It reverses for heat mode. Oh, and by the way there were installation manuals inside the boxes.
    The condenser came pre-charged with refrigerant. There was no refrigerant in the air handler coil, but it was under pressure with something, so be sure to remove the caps before opening the valves. My tech nearly killed me with the line cap because he opened the valve without removing the cap and it shot out towards me bouncing off the walls.
    Also if it drops below 32F in your location, be sure to have the condenser lifted at least 6" so it can drain the defrosted condensation properly without worrying about it icing up blocking the drain. I talk more about this in my Winter Update video.
    Oh and make sure you have a surge protector installed for the condenser, I've see a lot of videos where they forget to. Its very important with these units!
    I hired a professional to install it, but let me know if you have any questions about the unit and I’ll try my best to answer.

      Hi, question on the dip switch😮😮😮 settings. I couldn't get my accessory t805 thermostat to function either and after seeing your video I tried to reinstall the 24 system again and removed the manufacturer Stat. I set the s4 dip switch to on and she fired up fine. I do have a 03 error code, no flashing just solid. Are you getting the same code as well or everything normally on the handler like 00 ? Just checking if you had the same results while I get an answer back from the factory techs. Thanks in advance.

      @@louismarquez1847 huh, I don't think we had any errors. There are several different 03 error codes. EH03 and PC03. One is fan speed, the other high pressure. List of error codes here: aciq.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/AHU-Error-Display-V1.0.pdf

      I finally have a new control board coming which will finally solve this problem and allow control of the fan with aftermarket stats and shut off on temp setting if I choose so. Hopefully, this will solve my fan speed issue.

      I didn't look into the pioneer, I wonder how they compare. I initially was looking at the Mr. Cool, but my family was not a fan of me trying to DIY lol, so I went with the ACiQ because it was on sale for $1k less than Mr Cool, and as far as all my research could tell they were basically the exact same unit.

    Hi Richie, I just bought the exact same unit - thanks for tip on dip switch correction. Regarding the heat strip install - any details on the connections to the board to pass on (directions are terrible)? I plugged in two white connectors coming off the aux heat kit. 1 to CN12 and the larger to the L1, LN & S spot on the board. Did you need to do anything else?

    • @richiefekecs
      @richiefekecs  9 місяців тому

      We didn't install a heat strip since it should heat to -22F, and in VA it rarely drops below +20F. I'd email ACiQ directly, they responded pretty well to my emails. You can find their contact on the ACiQ website.

    • @michaelbeebe2504
      @michaelbeebe2504 9 місяців тому

      Yeah, I'm in VA too and realize now I probably over-purchased, but that's what was recommended and I know my current Heat Pump had aux/emergency heat. Been trying to contect with both HVAC and ACiQ for help and haven't had luck speaking to anyone yet. Did you have to run a new wire set between the Outdoor unit and the air handler to pull power for L1/L2? I assumed the air handler would get power from local line connection (like current unit). Thx! @@richiefekecs

    • @richiefekecs
      @richiefekecs  9 місяців тому

      @@michaelbeebe2504 so I had a pro install the unit, but he did not have to run any new lines. He reused the existing lines and wires. Worth noting we didn't use the included thermostat, we used an Ecobee. IDK if that makes a difference. The air handler does have a separate breaker from the outdoor condenser on the electric panel, and a heat strip might even be a 3rd breaker. Have you tried reaching out to HVAC direct? Depending where you're located, if push comes to shove, you could try reaching out to Americool Heating & Air Conditioning, he installed my system and is familiar with it. Also worth mentioning, he installed a surge protector for the condenser, and said that's a must have with these systems!

    I have the same unit but the tosot band. Do you find the unit quit on the inside of the house ? My coil seems to be getting a lot of vibration from the pump. It’s quite loud when in heat mode. Very quite in cooling mode tho.

    • @richiefekecs
      @richiefekecs  8 місяців тому

      I have noticed its louder in heat mode, seems like the fan runs full blast when heating, even though I have it set as 2 stage. Thankfully I have no vibration. I guess the fan runs faster because it gets so hot? Much more quite in cool mode for me as well.

    Who did your install? I'm looking for an installer in the area. Also, how is the noise at the registers throughout the house? I'd figure a larger unit would be pushing more air through the ductwork making it noisier.
