Civilization V Leader | Maria I of Portugal
- In a dynasty characterized by tragedy and madness for centuries, Maria I is undoubtedly the best known to the world, and perhaps the best beloved by the Portuguese people. As Queen of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves, she was known as Maria the Pious while ruling in Portugal, or Maria the Mad after fleeing to Brazil in 1807 from Napoleon's invasion. Incapacitated by her growing madness, Maria I died in Rio de Janeiro in 1816.

for those who says that she looks WAAAY to rich and fancy, she belong to the Bragança Dinasty the one which was so rich that didnt taxed people for 150 years.
Didn't Portugal have an empire that financed Portugal's wealth before Napoleon came to take over Portugal?
That voice actress is pretty amazing. You can hear the anger in her voice when you declare war on her.
"i am Maria, queen of Portugal, have we met? you look familiar... or maybe not."
"yes?"
"surely"
"surely"
"yes?"
"surely not!"
"You can not be serious! Well, being like that, we dont have anything else to talk about!
"What did you say!?"
more accurate lines.
The lines arent meant to be accurate. They say the same thing for every leader. What she is saying isnt meant to correspond with the text at the bottom unlike civ 6
Moorish architecture is certainly appreciated by the Portuguese however it is not the predominant one. It is seen as exotic, having a rich status connected to it was a lot of times preferred by the ones with high status.
The Manueline or Portuguese late Gothic, is more predominant and spread around the country.
those are the arches in the Palacio da Pena. It's pretty damn well done. The sea behind with the ships is purely poetic, making an allusion about the portuguese discoveries.
Dona Maria I (English: Mary I; 17 December 1734 - 20 March 1816) was Queen of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves.
Known as Maria the Pious (in Portugal), or Maria the Mad (in Brazil), she was the first undisputed Queen regnant of Portugal and the first monarch of Brazil.
With Napoleon's European conquests, her court, then under the direction of Prince Dom João, the Prince Regent, moved to Brazil, then a Portuguese colony.
Later on, Brazil would be elevated from the rank of a colony to that of a kingdom, with the consequential formation of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves.
i love how the mouth goes very well with whats says, per example when she says Bom, Falar, Certamente que não....
oh yeah our queen is the most fancy take that England
I so LOVE her Portuguese! IS AMAZING! I studied European Portuguese but her accent is so posh and clever, is like hearing a beautiful song. Very classy and elegant. Obrigado por tesu videos, eu vi-os varias vezes/Thanks for your videos, I saw them many times
it even comes out as snobby the way she talks
"Pareceis-me familiar. Não podeis estar a falar a sério. Como dizeis?" Adoro a maneira polida dela falar. Soa tão bonito.
Ah, sou Br. :)
A língua/idioma é vosso
This is awesome! Thanks for uploading
Best voice actor I've seen so far. Most of them sound like amateurs.
Too1998 She belongs to the bragança dinasty, the one which was so rich that didnt taxed people for 150 years
I think that he me meant that nobody uses the same way of speaking in Portugal anymore, but the accent is the same. Not because someone speaks European Portuguese, it means that is "posh" although you have to admit that it really sounds classy and proper, I really liked!
Im portuguese and Im pround of the creator for showing This in the game
One of the very few ones. Most leaders acting voice is very unconvincing. You declare them war or defeat them and they speak like if a minor incident just happened like spilling their tea on their clothes or something.
Maria, a louca (the mad). I am happy that they choosed her!
you can see her breathing changes to faster after you declare war.
That is right. Maria speaks European Portuguese.
"Não podes estar a falar sério!" muito bom ahahahahah
*Podeis
Mâriã, num fôude ora pois hahahahaha
Retardados.
Who else is here after Civ 6 Portugal?
Me
Cool thing! :D there's certainly some serious phonetical similarities, but she says "como dizeis?!", something like "what are you saying?!"
Alrighty, thanks for the quick Portuguese lesson! But yeah, I meant if you're transliterating. I wonder what other things you can come up with in different languages for all the leaders...
Queen Maria I is the only opponents that gives me GPT in civ 5 when I demanded it. But then she denounces me..
My Italian teacher was a very posh person and he wasn't old ,just in his late 20s so yeah, posh people do exist...
She means business when you start war
At 0:55, fun thing: I don't know what she says in Portugese, but I assume it's written like "Kovo ti znaesh?" Transliterating it into Russian, it means "Who do you know?" ;)
zaruyko no Just no
"Como dizeis" roughly meaning "What are you saying".
Portuguese and Russian *sound* a bit alike, yes.
Proud to be portuguese
Como dizeis?! :P
bet she'll be the leader for portugal in civ 6 too
Nope it's John III
she is saying "what did you say?!"
Se deus quiser há de brilhar
Já podeis da patria filhos
To me she always looked very short so I checked and she was 138cm in height. 😮
Anyone know ths song in the background?
Saudades de Coimbra
Ora ora, Dona Maria, a Louca.
Damn, she looks WAAAY to rich and fancy,
the Infante should be the one here . tho a great and dear queen . Infante was the first and true leader during lisbon golden age .
stop it, Portugal also had Queens, and its good to not always having the same leaders.
ua-cam.com/video/GbYb0IbmyBI/v-deo.html more about the queen and what she did.
Esta rainha foi terrivel...
@@viriato1425 should have been Mary II instead
should have been d. afonso henriques the one to get portugal on the go but what eves
Mad Maria
t. alberto barbosa
Sou Mariee Rrainhá de Portugale.
Certametxxxx
I heard she went mad.
Bailey Young i think she killed 100 girls anddrank their blood or something
@@lakinah2284 That's the hungarian queen not this portuguese Queen... Lol you have a portuguese name and you don't know anything about our History...
Posh people do. If they do exist. (I'm kidding I'm portuguese and know no one talks like that)
Ela é a Maria a louca ?
sim.
Sim, mas aqui ainda ainda está bem
Well, they kinda need to balance the number of males-females. I think that Maria I was a fine choice. And I think D. Afonso Henriques is a bit overrated.
D. Afonso Henriques overrated? He conquered half of Portugal during his reign, the other half took centuries to conquer! Maria I just wasted portuguese money on parties, neglected the army and fled when Napoleon came.
Lourenco Almada in true, its dom joão iv has fled and the idea to tranafer the capital to rio de janeiro had thinked im 1700s and maria in the first years has a good monarch, but on being more older the crazy growht and she just be remembered by this
he was the kcikstarter for portugal
@@max14070 Your English is god awful. We can barely make out what you're saying.
I’m one of her descendants.
Pedro II's grandmother.
@@barnabe4891 great grandmother*, sorry
His son was a coward (João VI) it's sad that we had kings like this..
He could have been worse though...
He was a frustrating bastard but I love reading about him
He's just such a cunt it's hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Swag
Among us
Sad that Salazar isn't the representant
Anaclete fuck salazar
Salazar from Resident Evil 4?
fuck him why would you want that bastard represent us in the game
I agree
He's Spanish...
Portuguese sounds like Polish, it seems.
Bumbling Brit What?
As someone with no experience with Portuguese, and who has only overheard Polish, it just sounds like it.
Bumbling Brit Well,Polish and Portuguese languages were influenced by Latin,so maybe that's why you must have been confused.
Well, European languages have basically evolved from Latin obviously but the traditional Latin sounds more heavier like Polish whenever it comes to their consonants. However, Brazilian Portuguese sounds allot more smoother than European Portuguese. So yeah, I have heard Polish audios and it sounds similar to Polishz
Polish*
su mariye
it's "sou Maria" '-'
Why does she have a Russian accent...?
This is a legit European-Portuguese accent. I can confirm it, I'm Portuguese.
Hmm, perhaps you're right. Its weird that they sound awfully similar as what I hear
Many people say that. Much like Romanians, we have a weird accent that can be confused with a slavic accent. However both portuguese and romanian are still mainly influenced by Latin.
I'm brazilian but when i speak english with my american and british friends they think that im slav because of the accent
