[Spoilers don't read if you haven't played OneShot yet] I'd say the main difference between world machine and computer is that with computer, some of the things are just so much more surprising and interesting. It would just never be able to replicate the chills I got when the game said my own name, or when it changed my wall paper when I wasn't looking. World machine is probably really good but if you had to chose, probably go for the PC version.

I 100% agree. It's something that is definitely recommended to try out if you're a fan or don't have a pc. But, the datchment of it utilizing the 4th wall breaking on your actual pc os is without a doubt is a downgrade that unfortunately had to happen. You just can't replicate that same experience that you get on pc.

    Imporant note and spoliers:
It's possible to replay post-solstice but only the non-solstice runs. At the title screen there will be a .... option below the exit option. Clicking it will bring you to the world machine which will ask you if you want to play a recording of your run. Saying yes will bring you back to the start but Niko's texture is like that of the world machines reflection. Saying no will crash the game. Also you don't need to delete save file to replay post-solstice.

sadly it's exactly what I expected from world machine edition
it's got the same issues to me that ddlc+ did, the desktop being simulated just...makes a lot of the forth wall breaks blander and less hard hitting then in the original 2 games
It's great for someone that has no access to a PC, but if someone has a pc (and seriously ANY pc, both versons work on WINDOWS VISTA with zero issues, and even ran on xp) I'd def reccomend just playing it on pc, it's a overall better experience
sadly Extemely meta games that mostly work within Desktop spesific mechanics just....do not work in a concole enviorment
and I've yet to see a game of that nature not fail at trying to port itself to consoles unfortunutely

I was originally recommended to play OneShot by an internet friend of mine, and I’m just going for the PC release and not the Switch (because I do not have it on Switch)
    [[SPOILERS FOR ONESHOT]]
OneShot was an amazing game that had me enjoy its plot and its clever puzzles. The way you feel so immersed in the game with its puzzles really made me feel something that I hadn’t felt when playing a game at all. The way the Entity calling me by name on my PC really got to me. I wanted to be able to protect Niko when I couldn’t talk to them, and that’s when I knew that to communicate with me in the Tower, they would have needed the lightbulb. I thought I would be able to talk to Niko, I’ve been able to talk to Niko before in the Glen when I gave the sun to Maize, but this really got to my nerves. I honestly wanted to reach out through my monitor and drag Niko into my embrace to tell them that I’m still guiding them and everything will be ok. Even when playing through Solstice, I was reminded of the squares, but seeing the very world I had grown accustomed to being destroyed right before my very eyes was a shock to me. I really enjoyed playing through and getting all the achievements (I play on Steam). The really amazing 4th wall breaks this game has made me enjoy it. Hell, I didn’t even realize what makes the game so special my first time around. But after returning the sun (and accidentally deleting my save file) and replaying the game again (and correctly doing Solstice) the true end felt correct. Like it was truly how it had to happen. Will I get OneShot for switch? Probably, yes. But this game with its 4th wall breaks is one of the best Steam games I’ve ever played.

I admit, for a long while I had a little grudge on this game thanks to the "World Machine" version. I played through it on PC and enjoyed it, but knew there were multiple endings so figured it'd be a cool idea to wait a little while and then play through it again so the story beats will tug at the right heartstrings again. But then I heard of the Switch version and how it had more features than the PC one. As someone who doesn't own a Switch - I kinda felt almost betrayed by this. Didn't help that not long before I found out, another game I literally just bought on PC had an updated and more feature-filled version on console. So yeah, wasn't feeling great about any of this.
That was a couple of years ago and I just forgot about OneShot. Then I stumbled on this video and thought "Sure why not" so I watched...and while I still feel like the PC version could've gotten some of these features, I do feel a little better and I do want to continue playing through the different endings.
Also +1 sub. Was a good vid and pushed me to play through again.

I'd say WME is even more magical than the Steam version because it kinda just subtly bring even more unanswered questions to the story.
Also it technically gives a more "complete" ending to the story. Whether that should be trusted by its surface look or should be taken with a grain of salt though, is up to everyone's interpretation.
(Also it's even more official than the level of officiality we already got that what's under Niko's hat is what anyone would imagine.)

So I literally just discovered this game a couple of days ago. A friend of mine told me about it, and since I had some money from a gift card on my Switch, I decided to buy it. Keep in mind, I’ve never heard of the game before, let alone play it. It was certainly an emotional rollercoaster of a game. I played DDLC+ before, and the idea of a virtual desktop was not new to me. I went into the game completely blind, aside from the general idea that the 4th wall would be broken (based on the fact that there was even a virtual desktop and DDLC+ is very similar in that regard). But I can confidently say that I didn’t have any idea of just how amazed I still was by the 4th wall breaks. I did play through the game both times (through the solace ending). I think the part that got me was that as you were playing through the game (full screen, obviously) you start to forget that you are playing the game in a virtual desktop, and not just the game itself. I got totally immersed in the story and the game itself, that when the World machine talked to me, it came as a total surprise. And it happened each and every time. I think the only complaint I can think of is how if you’re in full screen and you enter somewhere that requires the desktop, the game exits out of full screen. Which is a bit immersion breaking, to say the least. Like, I think if I was in [SPOILERS] the entrance to the tower and saw that giant X, I think I would know what to do. I think it would have even been a moment where it’s like “what do I do here again? OH YEAH! I’m in a virtual desktop! I know what to do here!”
I’m disappointed that I played the whole game in just 2 sittings. When I got Niko to sleep, I just reopened the game because I wanted to see what happened next.
After everything is said and done, I’m giving the game itself and the console port an incredible 9/10

I had already experienced OneShot with someone else on PC previously, but I got this as my first hands on experience with OneShot. And while the way the game works isn't nearly as surprising with both context of knowing how the PC version did, and the fact that as a console game it won't send you digging through a lot , they do a damn good job at making it all feel how it was meant to, because it uses everything it has (including the limitations) to give you the full OneShot experience, even though it knows that it can't surprise you the same way as the PC version

This game is similar to Undertale in alot of ways and dont know how I didn't hear about this game until 2022.

I first heard about OneShot when it was announced that it was coming to the Switch, but I played the regular PC version for my first experience since I had heard that it would be better on PC. I do agree that for the best first experience with OneShot possible, you should get it on PC- it's just so much more immersive and surprising and wonderful. But, once the console version came out, I did buy it to replay the game and check out the bits of extra content, and I very much enjoyed it (and also plan to 100% it), but nothing can really beat the PC experience.
anyway, tl;dr is play the PC version for your first experience, and then if you feel like it play the console version for the bits of extra content.

    • @FlameRat_YehLon
      @FlameRat_YehLon 2 роки тому +1

If you mean performance... There're some loading stutters which might or might not get fixed in the future. If you mean bugs there are a few, but isn't hugely experience impacting. If you mean implementation basically the right analog stick and ZR button is used for controlling the virtual mouse and everything else is for the Oneshot window, and you basically need to alternate between these two to get through the game. On handheld mode it's also possible to use the touch screen.
