A short video of a one night camp I did in November. In this video I'm starting to set up a semi-permanent camp. We made a fie reflector by weaving a Hazel fence.
do NOT doubt your vids.....they are great. you keep it informative and simple. I cant speak for everyone but for myself, I have enjoyed every single one. cheers !
When that smoke blew our way, I could smell the beacon, fantastic snell, I just ate before I started to watch this video, and you made me hungry again, Thanx for showing how you made your heat reflector, instead of weaving like you did, we just make two rows, and please our wood between the polls, great video M8.
Your vids are terrific. You're skilled, calm, and careful. Your demonstrations are straight forward, and your sparse narratives are concise. Glad I found your channel.
Great stuff Ade! That Mo is a good lad! Just like you say mate, the dirt time comes first and the filming comes second! I thoroughly enjoy seeing anything that you get the time to film and share mate so keep them coming as and when you can! Its not easy (or enjoyable a lot of the time!) doing the filming what with all different camera angles, and forgetting this and having to catch that, so what you do is very much appreciated!
Cheers Jed, I really appreciate the kind words buddy. I will be making more videos now that those folks close to me have talked some sense into me. But your'e right, bushcraft first - camera second. All the best Ade
It is always good to see someone else's take on an overnight camp, as the is usually something that make you think "Oh I'll have to try that next time I'm out" (in my case it would be the hazel reflector) Thanks for sharing, Top Man :o) And a little word on the subject of doubts. If you find you don't have any, then that is when you worry, as to have them shows you are thinking. Keep up the good work
Great vid mate. As ex Australian army, I have done more than my fair share of tarp only shelter bush work; we call ours a hoochie and 2 can be press studded together for a huge covered area, which also make the perfect fly for hammock camping I do now. Given retired to Thailand and the monsoons, the ground not always the place to be. Cheers Allan Leigh
Cheers Clinton. It really is a beautiful location, can't wait for spring to come in and fill the canopy now, it can only get more beautiful with time. Ade
Excellent video Ade, nothing wrong with the falling birch tree it looks safe to me. Well done look forward to seeing your next video. After watching your video on the swiz rucksack i bought one from your recommendations your right it's an excellent bit of kit. Cheers Mark.
Love your videos, yes it has been a while and i have missed them dearly. Thought it might have been a youtube problem on my end. Glad to see the new one and hope more are to come.
Northwestbushcraft Thanks, I hope to see maybe more items on the bushcraft kit under 100 pounds as i am trying to get more friends in the outdoors. The Meta 50 review was great and because of it i picked one up and i love it for its versatility. Also your review on the travel DD hammock led me to buy one and i will never look back. Thanks for saving my back from the hard ground.
Absolutely luvin that hazel fire reflector and the camp set up overall, as for that frying pan ...get some insurance for that baby as if I see it I might take it its that good haha! :) I know this video was shot a few months ago but I just wanted to say how fantastic your videos are, seriously they are very informative and you have a great demeanour about you. Maintaining a youtube channel is like growing in your bushcraft skills, you take the rough with the smooth, my mindset with my videos is to simply have fun and treat the rest as a bonus, however cheesy that sounds its true. Keep up the brilliant work Ade and looking forward to your future videos, have a blessed week ahead brother ~Peace~
Hi ade great video as always looks a great camp hope all family ok and keep the videos coming great job mate love watching a proper bushcrafter at work hope to meet up soon mate top job
I like the idea of the wall in front of the fire being longer than what most people make. I find that a longer fire as well will give the length of your body more warmth during the night. Try two logs flattened out on one side and start a fire in between the two logs stacked on each other and raised up until it is well lit.
Excellent upload, Ade. Your comment about UA-cam police on the log possibly collapsing, made me smile. It is always interesting to see semi-permanent camps, since its difficult to fine places to construct them (now days). Oh yes, the smell of the last campfire in the tarp and clothing is magical. I'll try out your method for keeping the end of sicks from blowing open… Didn't know about that one. The woven fire reflector is cool. I really like it. After seeing your breakfast, I'm hungry!!! All The Best, my friend. …Ken
Northwestbushcraft Hi Ade, I've been showing the knife to many folks and have received excellent suggestions on the handle. Haven't yet made the handle, but it will be creative and will become the topic of a future UA-cam upload. Check out my video from a couple of days ago, "Thank You Everyone, Shoutouts." You will see the knife! All The Best, Ken
You deserved it Mo, you and Danny from Journey Into Bushcraft have really helped me to get my thoughts in order and alleviate some of my self doubt. Ade
Thanks Neil. I must admit that I have really thought of quitting UA-cam, but close friends have persuaded me to carry on doing what I love. But the bushcraft comes first and the videos come second from now on pal. All the best Ade
Nice vid. That bacon smells euh looks good. Here in Belgium the technique for the fire reflector is used as a natural way to hide something. We use willow twine. Next time in the forrest i will try it. greetings from Belgium and sorry for the not so good english.
great vid. People who get out there and do the stuff instead of watching someone else doing it, will understand where you are coming from. I like the YT police comments, very funny.
mate dont stop with the videos wish i had the tuition, time and money to have the gear you have i live in the area of essex leigh on sea end and bushcraft is very hard to do around here as we have alot of country parks and not many secluded areas to really feel far away from home dont ps you have a new subscriber :) great vid
Niiiice...I so envy you right now. Its stinking hot here and you have nice cold conditions to go camping in. *Jacklore* knife?.... :-) I love Hazel...such versatile wood. Rob
Hi Rob No it's not a Jacklore pal, the blade is a Paul Baker copy of the Woodlore blade that I got several years ago before Sandy started doing his copies. I agree about the Hazel, so many uses that unfortunately we are losing site of in favour of more maodern materials All the best Ade.
Great video. I love that woven stick wall. Aside from it acting as a fire reflector, I guess it would also keep out curious wild animals too. Just curious, do you not pack a ground sheet? I think if you had a ground sheet your tarp could have given you better protection from potential rain but I guess you knew it wasnt going to rain that night. Thank you for sharing
Very nice video. I've never seen the weaving for the fire reflector. I hope you don't mind if I copy that idea. It gets mighty cold up here in Spokane WA, and that is a fantistac idea, Cheers Dave
Now Sandy, I know from previous comments that you've made on that pan that you have your eye on it, but there is a very long line of folk in front of you who are claiming it in my inheritance! lol All the best Ade
Great to see a new vid buddy. Don't fret about the quality of your vids AT ALL mate, I've bought several products based on your reviews so for that alone I thank you. Keep up the good work. PS. Can I ask where your trousers are from? Bit random I know, but I want some just like that! Haha.
Thank you for the kind words Nev, I really appreciate it pal. The trousers are actually ex-British Army lightweights. I've had them years and love them, if they get soaking wet they will dry in about 20mins just by wearing them. All the best Ade
Excellent set up. How do you package the food you brought with? Never saw a cooler or anything.. And was there a person lurking in the background while you were first setting up the tarp?
Hi there, I got the pan several years ago and I think it is a huge UA-cam sensation in it's own right as it seems to get comments on every video I do. Lol All the best Ade
Hi Zed, I'm really sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the sub, it's great to have you on board. I hope that my videos help in some way. All the best Ade
November? Where's the snow? I live in Russia. Arkhangelsk region. In November we have the knee-high snow. According to our conditions, it is not bushkraft outing for the Boy Scouts at age 10.
Hi there. Thank you for your concern, however if you read the previous comments I have said that I had checked the weather forecast the day before and no rain was due. I've also slept like this in torrential rain and was dry all night. All the best Ade
Hi there Garcia, The pack is the LK35 Swedish Army Pack from Military Mart here in England. The knife was a Woodlore clone made for me as a blade only blank several years ago by Paul Baker which I put the handle on myself using English Yew. Ade
Northwestbushcraft your a gentleman thanks for replying, only discovered you lately looking forward to you viewing your older videos but please keep the new ones coming, merry xmas brother!!
I like your big nap sack, where did you get it & whats it called. I am using my old Canadian Army bag & the molle looks to tactical for my liking. Also I thought about if it rained wouldn't the water run down the tree trunk & get you wet with all that moss on it?
Hi Stephen, the backpack is the Swedish Army LK35 Rucksack, I got it from MilitaryMart here in the UK. With regard to the tree/rain, I had checked the weather before the trip which is why I chose this sleeping style. All the best Ade
Wow it didn't look like a LK35 to me, maybe they have different models, I still have family in Scotland so maybe they will pick me up one. As for UK weather do you really Trush what the BBC weatherman says :-D
Lol Good point about the weathermen here but It's fine buddy. If the weather would have changed then so would I, thats the beauty of bushcraft - overcome and adapt. Ade
always jealous of you blokes with nice thick soft soil to set up on, here in Australia its just rock, thick scrub with a thin layer of topsoil over rock, you cant drive a tent peg in anywhere sometimes....oh and nice camp set up mate bet you were comfy
Nice thick soft soil usually means soft because it's not baked by the sun. Although in good summers it can be! But most of the time it's cold, damp if not actually wet, dark by 3.30 in the winter, snow, ice, wind with rain any season and when it finally dries and warms up, it's usually humid! Yeah I'm sure there are a few who would swap Aussie weather for that. Can't knock a tent peg in? Weigh it down with a rock!
edward charles had to reply to you, just because of your name, My name is Brian Charles Edwards lol yeah mate tying down to rock and whatever else you can find is the norm, yeah I here you about the cold I hate the cold, but I still would love to spend some time in some of your forests it'd be a nice change
Damn you for being able to eat bacon, doc says no more lol.... Anyway, could you please tell me what the jacket/pullover is that you are wearing? Is it heavy duty? Last one I had like that was luvly and warm but ripped easy.... Great video thanks.
The top is the Buffalo Special 6. I have had this on at minus 19c with nothing else on underneath and I have been toasty. Sorry to hear about the bacon issue, I think I would ask for a second opinion. lol All the best Ade
do NOT doubt your vids.....they are great. you keep it informative and simple. I cant speak for everyone but for myself, I have enjoyed every single one.

Loved the hazel fence! Real old school bushcraft. Your video's are great so keep up the good work.
Thank you buddy.
Ade
nicely executed! this is what it is all about, getting out, trying new things, accomplishing your goals. Keep it up, I enjoy watching your video's.
Thanks fella, much appreciated.
A top video. Nice to see a British take on it. Lovely setting and good commentary. Especially like the firewall. Good job and look forward to more
Amazing vid! I like observing nature, discover and calm down...
Excellent video i loved the idea of a fire reflector, will try it out this spring when me and my son go camping.
Hi Ade I enjoy your vids mate can't fault them , looked a great camp all the comforts you need thanks for sharing look forward to the next Paul
Great video - thanks for sharing. Loved the woven fire reflector. And yeah, didn't look like that tree would be going anywhere at all. Cheers.
Great stuff Ade! That Mo is a good lad! Just like you say mate, the dirt time comes first and the filming comes second! nice setup for a dry night. I wouldnt go with this when there is a chance for rain.
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. I've slept like this in December when we had 36hrs torrential rain and I was bone dry all night. All the best Ade
WOW. Nice to hear man! I tought the overhead might be to small but good to hear it kept you dry!
great vid pal hope to see more soon
Nice one Ade, great setup.

Thats ultimate great. Thx for the video.
Great Breakfast!!! You should be all "Fed and Watered' now !!!
Hi there
In this setup I folded the other half of the tarp under me to create a groundsheet and tarp in one.
am thinking of going canoe camping this summer .it sounds like fun if you find an island with no one on it
Hi there.
I think Scotland would lend itself very well to a canoe trip to small islands but be careful of the the things with wings lol.
Ade
Very nice video. I've never seen the weaving for the fire reflector. I hope you don't mind if I copy that idea. It gets mighty cold up here in Spokane WA, and that is a fantistac idea,

like that tip, the more you know the less you have to carry !
Great video m8y 👍
Looked like a great camp Ade. I must get out again soon too. Where did you get that lovely frying pan from?
Sandy
Now Sandy, I know from previous comments that you've made on that pan that you have your eye on it, but there is a very long line of folk in front of you who are claiming it in my inheritance! lol All the best

nice camp brother

Great informative video, what sort of rucksack is that? It seems a nice sensible size and not too many pockets and pouches
Cheers Colin
hallo, you have the perfect place to camp found under the tree...
Excellent set up. How do you package the food you brought with? Never saw a cooler or anything.. And was there a person lurking in the background while you were first setting up the tarp?
thanks for the great video! what kind of backpack is that?
Hi there
The back pack is an LK35 Swedish Army pack from Military Mart here in the UK. Cheap as chips but incredibly robust.
Ade
Nice Setup and perfect equipment for an overnighter.I like the LK 35,simple and robust. What size is the Pan?Looks like a 24cm one. ATB Falko
Hi there, I got the pan several years ago and I think it is a huge UA-cam sensation in it's own right as it seems to get comments on every video I do. Lol
All the best
Ade
Hello... curious of the brand of anorak you are wearing in this video...Thanks for your time
Hi there.
The Anorak is the Buffalo special 6 smock.
Thank for taking the time to watch the video.
Ade
Only just discovered your channel an have just subbed, great video ~Peace - Zed Outdoors~
Hi Zed, I'm really sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the sub, it's great to have you on board. I hope that my videos help in some way.
All the best
Ade
Not to worry dude, hope you had a pleasant xmas and new years, looking forward to seeing your future adventures this year
November? Where's the snow? I live in Russia. Arkhangelsk region. In November we have the knee-high snow. According to our conditions, it is not bushkraft outing for the Boy Scouts at age 10.
That is a really nice looking pack. Where can I find one like that?
If it was raining, wouldn't the rain drip down the tree trunk into the shelter? Not a member of YT police though :) Good vid and loved the music.
Could you use fire reflectors around a debris hut to keep small or medium sized animals out? I think I just figured out a bushcraft life hack!
Looked like you had a good time
It was a great camp pal. I really enjoyed getting back to basics.
Ade
I'm just thinking that if it rains water will run down the tree under your tarp and drip on you till you are soaked.
Hi there. Thank you for your concern, however if you read the previous comments I have said that I had checked the weather forecast the day before and no rain was due.
I've also slept like this in torrential rain and was dry all night.
All the best
Ade
LOL, UA-cam police! Nice video mate, nice channel, I just subscribed
If u are measuring something you should use the same measure for each element that should be the same.
Good video..Thank you.
My choice would be a 3-6 inch log or two propped into main tree as you are only supporting a light tarpaulin--even a rope ridgeline will suffice...
Can anyone tell me what this music is? It really adds to the atmosphere of this video. Nice...
Hi there.
If I remember rightly it was a free music download from a royalty free site called audionautix.
All the best
Adrian.
thanks for sharing man loved it, just wondering about what knife you were carrying and what backpack? Thanks again.
Hi there Garcia, The pack is the LK35 Swedish Army Pack from Military Mart here in England. The knife was a Woodlore clone made for me as a blade only blank several years ago by Paul Baker which I put the handle on myself using English Yew.

thanks Ade : )

Its a Buffalo 5 top. very warm. Pertex outer with a Polartec fleece liner
The top is the Buffalo Special 6. I have had this on at minus 19c with nothing else on underneath and I have been toasty. Sorry to hear about the bacon issue, I think I would ask for a second opinion. lol
All the best
Ade
hi there...what sleeping bag is that?it is a 58 pattern ..but which one?from which country is it?
Hi there, the sleeping bag is my fathers English ex-forces Arctic sleeping bag, issued in the 1980's if I remember rightly.
All the best
Ade
Northwestbushcraft thanks for the reply..
nice job
