Can you explain what are those? I heard him in an interview talking about being used to playing with the instruments connected to battery packs, so they always use them. Is that what this is?
@@oopskapootz7276 Yes, the amps behind them are manufactured by a brand called Orange. A "stack" is a setup where the amplifier is separate from the speaker(s) and usually rests on top, hence the term, stack. A stack setup is usually very loud and wouldn't be necessary for such a small and intimate environment such as a Tiny Desk Concert 👍
Got to see them in Indianapolis a few months back. Me and my friends were just grinning from ear to ear the entire time. One of the best guitarists I've ever heard and the crowd went wild for him after every song and his smile every time the crowd cheered was just the happiest thing.
I WAS THERE! The dudes that showed up in full touareg dress just to vibe on stage with him for like half the show made it. Shook his hand after it was over to say thanks for the great show and god it was like they were made of stone
Truly one of the best live acts around right now. They’re touring frequently and I highly recommend going if you can make it. They’ll melt your face off.

can recommend tinariwen and the les filles de illighadad. the latter has/had fatou seidi ghali and Fatimata Ahmadelher two of the only female tuareg guitarists overcoming social gender boundaries but also musical gender roles. while tinariwen is probably the most polished of the sahel bands - they also have a great set on kexp.
This band is my favorite - they can do soft, gentle music, and hard rock. And every time they are good. Does the American bassist already speak Tamacheck? Watching Mdou fingers on that guitar - just breath taking...
Watched so many of their concerts on YT but they never pall and there's always a subtle new interpretation. Their rhythms are mesmerising. Absolutely love their music. And Takoba is just Tarrifik!
One of the best live performances I've seen, saw them when they first came to Glasgow. Pretty rough from the previous night, never smiled that much at a gig before!
Saw them a couple of years ago, opening for Parquet Courts. Great live show from both bands! Hadn't heard of Mdou but was pleasantly surprised and bought a shirt at the show!
Interestingly, as a small child Mdou was cast to play the role of 'Timmy' in the remaking of the classic "Lassie" series. Brilliant stuff. He was awesome. You can find the pilot episode if you google "Lassie" and "African remake" (or at least you could until this summer. Haven't checked for it since July)
First saw these guys at Festival Internationale in Lafayette, LA some years ago. I think my exact words were "Am I high or are these guys just really effin good?" Been lucky enough to see them a few more times in NOLA.
THEY BROUGHT ORANGE STACKS TO A TINY DESK THE ABSOLUTE MAD LADS!
Can you explain what are those?

They most likely have a sponsorship deal with Orange and are required to have them on display.
@@LeSpulch ok they are just amplifiers and stuff then, makes sense
Might be a matter of tone: Those amps get the tone they want and need to play that way, so those are what they use.

Never clicked on a video faster than this one. Saw him live in Amsterdam a few weeks back. Place was wild!
Saw them live at the Sydney Opera House last year and was astonished, so incredible.

I was there too it was great
Tiny Desk's coverage of international artists and musicians makes it great! The absolute best!
What a time to be alive to see Mdou Moctar shredding it at Tiny Desk! Thank you ♥
If you haven’t already seen it, they have another one on here as well
West African excellence! Thank you Mdou Moctar and crew for being amazing and representing for us Saharan rockers!
Saharan vibes ❤ rock'n'roll 🤘
Tinariwen really set the tone. solid desert blues great band, but the guitar is rather sloppy!
@@RobertSlover sloppy guitar on Tinariwen or here?
The Jimi Hendrix of the Sahara 🎸 🤘
Agree but he reminds more of Santana though.
tal cual, mi hermano
Tuareg Blues
This band has gotten me through some tough times. I'm ecstatic to see them here!

it was such a treat to see them in concert in atlanta. west african desert blues getting more and more international hype lately is so exciting
I saw them in Vienna at a punk/techno club, they were crazy loud, featuring drums instead of percussion. Great experience, I wish them all the best
Amazing guitarist in every way
Awesome
the entire band is really starting to come together now and its amazing, that last song grooves so well.

I hosted Mdou Moctar live concert in Providence, RI. It was one of wildest dream that came true as a cultural activist and music promoter.
"cultural activist" ?
@@RobertSlover google: "Cultural activism is a form of activism that uses art and visual production to challenge the dominant ways of thinking about the world and present alternative perspectives."
That smile at the beginning from the singer.
PURE JOY

Mdou Moctar really just makes me want to get up and dance.
@Mdou Moctar if you see this, we would love to see you in Birmingham Alabama ❤️
That guitar is insane, and the other 3 guys are mad to follow.
one of the best bands right now!
So happy to see and hear Mdou Moctar here
placing ads in the middle of a song is just the worst human behaviour
get adblock, trust me makes youtube way more watchable
UA-cam just does that. It has nothing to do with the uploader. :/
Member when UA-cam was real cool and ad free? I member 😢
Yeah, like I know UA-cam needs ad revenue, but they could at least use the algorithm to place ads during breaks.
media music sites only want to grab your money
don't have any respects
for the music
One of the best live performances I've seen, saw them when they first came to Glasgow. Pretty rough from the previous night, never smiled that much at a gig before!

I have loved him for a couple years now! Tuareg Blues are one of my passions! Bravo, Tiny Desk!
What's your best artists in this musical genre!?
I must have been living under quite the rock to not know about this for two weeks! So glad he and his band have made it here.!
Outside of Jeff beck and mark knoplfer he’s got the best finger-style solos I’ve ever heard on electric
He's definitely faster than Knopfler, if less varied. Nobody compares to Beck tho.
Way different style but check out joe pass dude was insane
@@bicks4436Joe pass is up there as well, I said electric cause including jazz and bluegrass players is just unfair 😂
Oh! Very interesting... this was really a surprise! Touareg! 😊
Music I can listen to everyday, all day!
love the sound! another tiny desk concert gem!
Yes! Finally!
Saw them a month ago for their very first gig in Paris, it was awesome ❤
Congrats guys you've officially "made it" when you get a Tiny Desk
He really enjoys what he does. It's amazing watching Moctar playing.
