Hermanos Gutiérrez: Tiny Desk Concert

There is a slow burning intensity to everything Hermanos Gutiérrez does, including how the duo walked into our offices and saw the Tiny Desk for the first time. “Wow, there it is…” Estevan said quietly to his brother Alejandro.
Hermanos Gutiérrez’s origin story is as intricate as the guitar playing styles of its two members. The brothers have roots in both Switzerland and Ecuador, and the time spent in those two very distinct cultures and geographies gives their sound a tempered European coolness, coupled with a warm, playful energy. From the opening strains of “El Bueno Y El Malo” the brothers’ turn behind the Desk is the perfect introduction to their music if you don’t already know them - and a treat if you already do.
They weave intricate guitar lines over each other that intertwine to the point that if you close your eyes you can’t tell where one begins and the other ends. With a slight touch of a digital loop pedal, Estevan even sneaks in an entire percussion section on bongo and cowbell on “Tres Hermanos.” When my Alt.Latino co-host Anamaria Sayre and I interviewed them on the podcast last year, I notice that they converse very much like they play: their comments intertwine and layer upon each other’s in the same way they play in unison and against each other in songs like “Thunderbird” and “Pueblo Man.”

they are going on tout A LA SALA 2024
DEADASS.
seeing them all in april!!
Someone please hire these guys to make a soundtrack for a film. I find their music so cinematic.
TOUCHE TOUCHE TOUCHE first time hearing this group outstanding sound
I play their albums when I create; I call it my Django playlist haha
Sounds like a Tarantino movie 😂
You might dig Neil Young's soundtrack to Deadman.
Well, they're buddies with The Black Keys, only a matter of time before they're offered, I would think.
I listened the first song so many time in repeat that I almost turned myself in a nopal cactus in a desert. And I was fine.
“and i was fine” is so real
@@DragonkGamingthat little finale set me in the mood for the whole show
Exactly the same 🌞
Nopal en frente y todo
This guys are so cool. First song is incredible! But my favorite is the second, Three Hermanos! We are three brothers in family and this song made a huge impression on mee. Many Thanks to Hermanos Gutierrez for their deep feel of soul understanding.
I have a barbershop and this music suits perfectly, we are able to focus on the job and keep customers happy and relax, this music feels ancient, it comes from the soul...
I was just thinking... ideal to tattoo to too.
My barbershop is rap and r&b. It gets old. I should recommend this.
@@nmh20 Yeah, that's a very limited palette. Definitely suggest more genres to be added to the playlist
Hermanos gets plenty of plays at our barber shop, as well.
Just learning about these guys now, and wow. I’m going to put this on and go to sleep-excited to see what it makes me dream about.
My Uber driver in L.A. was listening to these guys. I've been listening ever since.
Proudly ECUADORIAN 💪🏻💪🏻
I love playing these guys while I drive Uber/Lyft. Always a chill vibe that anyone can enjoy
Absolutely unbelievable tunes
living in the American South West, this is like soundtrack when driving to and from Phoenix through the desert. Love this.
I can imagine that....in my dreams, (I'm really in rainy England). Love this music.
You describe my life perfectly. I am a photographer who shoots 99% of my work in the Southwest... I am based out of Tempe.
I spend a lot of time out on the highway, on trails, unpaved dirt roads, many primitive miles.
The brother in the blue shirt is wearing some Zuni pieces. I pass through the Zuni Reservation heading toward El Morro probably 10 times a year. It's a favorite road trip route. They have those distinctive inlays in their silver.
I'm half Navajo so I wear Navajo jewelry, but this is essentially my style.
Those brothers encapsulate life out here. Wide open spaces to think, guitar plucking of strings, and miles to go before you sleep.
I went on a date & the guy was playing this in the car! I was mesmerized while we drove in silence soaking this sweetness in. I later texted him to get their name & have been listening to them non stop. They were perfect viewing partners for the Eclipse ❤ So much appreciation.
are you guys married today? please
How big was the car ?
What did you order for entrees?
What colour was your outfit that night?
I’m invested on this, I need more info
The Tiny Desk Series has made the world a better place. Thank you NPR Music. What beautiful music!
Their music tell a story without saying a word, amazing.
Perfectly stated
Lo que tú escribíste es poesía
Hats off to the best comment.
Yeah exactly
Their vibe feels like they’re just at home playing for themselves and each other, like no one else is even there. Hahah. Definitely adding this one to the playlist!!
It's well worth it! Perfect chill and relax music. 🙌🏼
That’s exactly what it’s like 😊
Posers
That's what I thought too @deadfrog
Strange that crossed my mind too. Pictured them just jamming in their abuela's garage never imagining they'd possibly make a career out of it but doing it for the therapy of music and fun of it. Probably why it sounds so genuine ay?
At this point I would like to praise the team of NPR Music for this really extraordinary concert series.
I have been listening and watching you for several years now and am always surprised to find such great new music and musicians that inspire me as a musician myself. This concert by Hermanos Gutiérrez is one of those wonderful discoveries that I would never have made without you!
For this, my sincere thanks!
I fully agree!
This and Khruangbin....
... and Anderson Paak...
... and....
The Tiny Desk is my spot for normal on the internet.
Thank you for releasing this statement.
I fully agree! 💯
My God! This is one of those treasures that make you wonder: How did I not know about these guys?! And: Thank God for NPR bringing them to my attention. How beautiful their music is. The intensity!
I've been listening to them for years, I wear shirts so people ask me who they are, so I can tell them!
thanks UA-cam recommendation algorithm
@@415s30oh, where do you buy these shirts?? 😀
@@jebberwocky Exactly! Just discovered them right after Morcheeba
This music is saving my life.
I am super obsessed with this comment because I said this as well and I think people really don't get how powerful what you just said is. It is literally like making you feel alive. It's giving you life. It's saving your soul in its own way ❤
Esta música vino a consolarme el alma en medio del dolor.
Same my man
Raising life's vibration ❤❤❤❤❤ enjoy the shift, my friends
That’s the purpose of art. To create, inspire, and enrich life. Perhaps giving time and effort to an instrument or other art medium might reignite a passion. Hope everything is well and though we live in a chaotic and indifferent world, there’s always opportunity to create or consume great art that enriches the brief experience we get on this beautiful planet.
i am a mother to three sons, one of which passed away from SIDS in 2020 at 24 days old. alejandro and estevan, i feel my son in the stars when i listen to your music. i listen to tres hermanos on repeat and cry a whole spectrum of tears. i am getting a hollow body gretsch tattoo with the words tres hermanos as an addition to his already present memorial tattoo. thank you for speaking the way you do through your music.
These cabrones are amazing. Slendid artists.

I’m very sorry for your loss.

thank you comment angel
You cannot be cooler than these guys
These guys are like if a Portlandia character was actually cool.
Unless you are Hak Baker who if a big fan❤
Yep: humble, grateful, chill, talented, and connected chemistry
The best music for a summer drive at dusk.
Whoa, youtube just started autoplaying this and i was gonna click to the video i was meaning to watch and about six notes in, it hit me like a bolt of lightning.
Volume up, max quality, fullscreen, eyes closed.
Same thing happened to me. Then I shared it with my sister, and now she's completely entranced too.
You can tell great music when you don't need a voice. Thank you!
My therapist said im addicted to melancholy, and recently i found their music and now ive found my drug for this addiction ❤
Is this a sad or happy story😂
I agree
I need to know what other artists you listen to
@paulborawski14 funny enough a lot of metal also a lot of introspective hiphop, but all of it is sadly off the mainstream but i could go into detail if u want
Try the Pineapple Thief Album "Your Wilderness" - really nice melancholic music 😊
These guys should be in a movie.
coen bros or tarntinio
I'm imagining two brothers riding 100 of miles on horseback to find their siblings that were displaced during war
The last of us from HBO
Or make the soundtrack of a movie
If pulp fiction was a band.
Finalmente Ecuador presente en NPR! El sonido y la nostalgia del bosque seco al filo del mar ❤.
Elloa son de ecuador ?????
Tambien hay una sesión con Rio Mira que es un grupo de Ecuador y Colombia
I have a dream where they make a song with khruangbin 😮
I think they opened some Khruangbin concerts this year
I like these guys better than Khruangbin. The one thing that drives me crazy is Linda Lee lack of bass. If they had someone like Mohini Dey on bass, they would take it to another level musically. These guys are a breath of fresh air and are fun to listen to. Love the steel slide work.
Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking this !!
@@micaegan9948 you have great taste check out treskey brothers
I feel like I am in a movie about a person searching the desert for something they left behind
PERFECT description lol ❤️
Totally haha
Turns out what they were looking for was inside them the whole time...
I see Danny Trejo feeding Clint Eastwood water saying not to drink it to fast 💗

I just played this because I’m in a hotel room in Mazunte Mexico with my gf and the toilet has no doors, so this would make some noise, but now I realize how good this video is 🤣 hilarious way to discover this guys
Love mazunte
Exactly the same for me and my gf bro, what a coincidence hahaha. Saludos desde Argentina

My brother shared this concert with me and my dad. We lost him last month and this music has become a souvenir for us and often we find ourselves here. We miss you so much bro…
So sorry for your lost man 🙏
Su musica es medicina para la alma.

@@midasandre nothing else in this style/genre. I’m more into ambient, left field, neo classical avant garde. But, since you asked, some of my other faves from the year include Bitchin’ Bajas - “Switched on Ra” Sophie Birch, “Holotropica” Carmen Villain “Only Love from Now On” Jeremiah Chiu and Marta Sofia Honer “Recordings from the Åland Islands
I'm obsessed with these guys. Most hypnotic Tiny Desk ever.
Mucha gente describe el desierto pero yo escucho las montañas de la cordillera de los Andes y flores de páramo, en otros acordes se oye el mar clarito, el pacífico de fondo, me encanta!
Everyday I jump into the lake of Zurich (3 degrees Celsius) I put their music on a speaker and go into a deep trance. Nothing like it in the world!

I’m getting Tarantino vibes, if they haven’t featured on one of his movies already then they should definitely be on his radar or any movie director worth his salt.
Once again many thanks to the NPR team for finding and introducing me to such musical delights.
:-/ quien no conoce a dios a cualquier santo le reza...
If pulp fiction was a band.
Sadly The Movie Critic will be Tarantino’s final movie. He said he’s done for good after that.
@beefarlee and you believe him?
These guys should be the hired to do the whole Red Dead Redemption 3 soundtrack.
Loud.
!!
That comment shouldn't have hit has had as it did. Man you are 100% spot on... This is gonna live rent free for a while.
I hear tlou2 in their sound. Not mad at all about it.
100% this.
To everyone here, take a moment to pause and let these sounds fill your heart with calm. Wherever you are, I’m sending you my best wishes for happiness and peace 🥰
It beautiful to see brothers creating such beautiful music together….you can really feel their love and respect for each other.
This version of Thunderbird is so therapeutic..it sure got me through some bad days. Just Beautiful
This band is mesmerizing
That is just the word.
NPR Music is the best platform on the planet!
That's it audiophiles. This is the end of the rainbow. This is what we are all looking for. From the first time we heard Pink Floyd or Coltrane. From the late nights with Cohen to the light and drugs filled raves. This is musics power
These brothers are magnificent. I can listen to their music on repeat for hours.
I rode my track bike without brakes from Santa Barbara to LA listening 90% of the time to their magic. Now every time I listen to their music, I am transported back to my saddle. Thank you tiny desk, you stay coming through!
Aye you’re a legend track bikes are the best bro!
16 minutes, 39 seconds, no wrong note. Wow! This is unreal.
These guys are what cool wants to be…. Thanks Brothers
1st time I heard them was two years ago, Driving through the high Desert Taking in the scene and all of a sudden I hear them on a small radio station and just fell in love. They are my Meditation, music and cooking or creating.
What part! Grew up in the high desert and agree this suits some of the open roads so perfectly
I’m not a musician, but wouldn’t this be reverb heaven?
Also not a musician, but I believe it’s tremolo heaven🎸
My favorite Tiny Desk Concert so far. These guys are amazing.

I've been listening to these guys every morning for the past few months. perfect music to wake up to at 5:00 a.m.
This melodies just get into the brain without resistance, flow through every cel of the body to be finally released through the skin and travel with the wind
Had the pleasure to see them live in Hamburg, Germany. One of the coolest concerts I've ever been, there were moments where everybody was quiet appreciating the amazing sounds that this beautiful humans make :) (énfasis en: increíble y hermosos, gracias) it was everything!!!
Wow, I really enjoy how seamlessly the older brother throws down with a looper pedal. I felt like it was some movie soundtrack and I was thinking I’d enjoy whatever movie that was.
Can’t put into words how much I appreciate their music. In the past 2 years they have shared with me so many precious moments.
Organic, telling stories without words.
Absolutely beautiful.
Saw them live last night in San Antonio (their first time in SA). The energy was cosmic, absolutely transcendent. They are totally immersed in the music they make- the rest of us are just lucky enough to be there.
Not only are these 2 brothers awesome guitarists but they have good taste in a new mexico style clothing.
Jam @9:30 had me alone in mah room speak'n to the dead. Big vibes wizards ))))))
I maxed out my alchemy skill while listening to this.
I can definitely hear the Ecuadorian influence in their music. This is my first time hearing their music and I see a thumbnail to the right with 45 minutes of their greatest hits. Will be listening to that next.
I was about to say the same thing! I hear that Pasillo chord somewhere…and also the Rockola tune. Maybe i’m mistaken.
First time listening to these guys and I was hooked from the first 5 seconds. Can't wait to have this on as I drive off into the sunset!
This is the real power of Latin America, the real America, from Mexico to Argentina…
I can't tell you how many times I've rewatched this. I especially adore "el bueno y el malo" dearly.
I have chills running through my body.
Them and Khruangbin on Sunday at Coachella is INSANE !
Imagine waking up on the beach somewhere in Baja California. It's dusk and your head is pounding from the drinks you had earlier. In the background you hear the faintest hum of electric guitars drawing you forward, one labored step after another, down a crescent shoreline. In the distance you spot a tiny cantina, Christmas lights strung up haphazardly. The music gets louder, beckoning you in. When you enter, you notice it's only you, the barkeep, and two brothers playing guitar. Those two brothers are Hermanos Gutiérrez. This is the vibe I'm getting from these jams, and I'm loving it.
Love this thought
They were in my top albums in 2020 and 2021, glad they are getting more visibility. They are phenomenal!
HOW AM I JUST FINDING OUT THIS EXISTS!!!!
THEY ARE SO TALENTED, I LOVE TINY DESK, THANK YOU!!!!!!
I cannot stop listening to these guys. It is hauntingly beautiful, like driving through the high desert of West Texas while smoking a fatty. You don't want the experience to end and the more you listen the deeper it becomes entrenched in the fiber of your being. It's just so beautiful man.
El buen Dan Auerbach siempre produciendo y apostando por maravillosos artistas, y estos genios no son la excepción. Un saludo y abrazo desde Bolivia, Hermanos Gutiérrez. 🇧🇴
Got nothing to say except I love these hermanos. Their music is a balm to my soul.
This is sick, I’ve been rocking these guys the past few weeks since I discovered them and now there’s a tiny desk concert. Frig yea.
Su música ayuda a libera mi mente a otro nivel muy arriba ☝️ saludos des CDX paz espiritual.
I couldn’t agree more 💫
I was listening to this set while making the famous Hilly’s Pumpkin Caramel Pie for an upcoming Christmas get together,… Such a beautiful moment/memory 12/20/24 🤍🕊️
This music sounds like north Mexico. First time I heard them I thought how could they not be from there...
Their sound makes me feel like i'm lost inside a Wim Wenders movie, traveling aimlessly. Majestic!
Someone needs to make a modern western and have these men score the music for the film. God damn
Top shelf, amazing sound……no one sounds like them. I’m going to see them for free at the North Miami Bandshell this coming Wednesday
How was it?
true leader who speaks from the heart, beautiful speech and meaning
Last week I saw them for the first time when I went to see Kharungbin again at The Linq in Las Vegas and Legit changed My life. I was so close to the stage it was spiritual. ❤ I can only imagine a tiny desk with just them.
I've had this on repeat for 2 days now, their music is like meditation for me. I'm so grateful for this tiny desk concert
and the last song is definitely my favorite!
Laughing! I just heard today. Automatically hit the UA-cam...LOOP ON.
I'm not sure how I got here, there's no way out, so here I will stay!
I’m weeping at the beauty and complexity of this experience listening to them for the first time. As a singer and songwriter and creator I am moved on so many levels that it has formed a giant ball of emotion in my throat. Thank you Universe for putting together a perfect storm of artistry, hard work, personality and dedication from these two creators. What fortune for us all that such beauty exists.
i am so happy i clicked on this
¡Dios! qué pasada de música, qué manejo de guitarras ¡me encantaaaaan!
Very cool the songs are very nice. I am definitely headed to Spotify and hope to find them there.
I am really sad that this concert was only 16 minutes. They felt like 2. I was so involved in the songs I didn't even realize time was passing. Thank you Hermanos, and also congrats for this!
They have a few albums, I always put them all on shuffle when I work. I love these guys, I am glad they are on NPR.
I was listening to the Kruangbin station on Pandora and it was playing Hermanos Gutierrez too. Awesome.
I appreciate you and your brother so much
2 years later today and still as fire as you can get
One of my favorite groups in the world. Such quality.
This really had the feel of the open plains, emptiness and contentment in one. Wonderful.
A lot of guitarist today are always trying to show off and they put their skill as focal point and song is secondary. These guys are insanely good and songs are what its all about. Hat down gentlemen.
Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuy Bueeeeenooooooo!
I felt like a light balloon that has been flying up and down and eventually landed on a quite peaceful ocean surface. ❤
