You just saved me a shit ton of money! Followed this step by step for the first time and replaced my water pump and thermostat on my 2006 Durango. Perfectly explained. Note: if you don’t have an impact gun, just rent a fan torque wrench and jam a screw driver into the old water pump to keep it from rotating when loosening the fan. That was the hardest part. Everything else was easy! Thank you again.

    This is an excellent post!
    Bless your heart brother!
One comment though. It will take about two gallons of antifreeze fluid to refill the system.
I ran the car without the radiator cap until the thermostat opened. Then gradually added the antifreeze until the radiator topped off. Place the radiator cap on and close it and open slightly the drain plug until bubbles start forming and burying out. When the bubbles stop coming out and bursting, just antifreeze stars flowing out, tighten the plug. Add antifreeze into the reservoir to the full mark.
    Thanks!

    2 questions please…
What in the world did you put the impact on to remove the fan? Couldn’t tell where it was landing…
Also, no sealant on the t stat housing?

Curious did u install the thermostat with the jiggle pin in the down position?
I thought the pin should be up@ 12 o clock for air?
Was there any issues as far as overheating?
    Did u had to bleed?

Great video but you should really specify that this is a 5.7 not a 4.7...it could be confusing someone can say my water pump doesn't look like that .......somebody with a 4.7....quite different and it's very much easier the 4.7

how did you use the impact gun to break the fan loose? We couldn't see. Is it a special attachment?

Only issue i have is that it doesn't stat what engine this is for. My 06 Durango has the 3.7 ltr engine. And the water pump looks nothing like that

I have a 2004 Durango, isn't the cooling fan reverse thread? On the video it looks like regular thread, Lefty Loosey

Just did mine, its a disaster. Helpful tips: 1/7/16ths inch wrench will fit the fan clutch nut. If you have to change the pump you might as well get new METAL idler pulleys and an OEM mopar replacement belt tensioner with a new serpentine belt. Oh and bleeding the air out is a real bitch, especially if yours has rear heat. Takes many days to get the air out of these dirty damn things. Good luck.

You forgot to bleed the air out of the coolant and scrape off the corrosion on positive battery terminal. Amateur
