    my old scissor lift dump trailer had this same issue I would take the bucket on my tractor and help get the load started. I switched to a Diamond C with a telescopic ram on the front and now I dont have that issue.

      The telescoping cylinder just makes so much more sense when you think of the leverages that go into it.

    Its a scissor lift dump trailer: Most of its lifting power is in the back. If you had moved a yard or two from the front to the back I bet it would have dumped it. I’ve never had a scissor lift dump trailer be able to lift its entire payload if it has a considerable load at the front of the trailer.

      Leverage definitely plays its part in this, but I’m a firm believer if a trailer says it can dump 18k pounds, it should be able to dump that 18k no matter where the load is in the box.

    I used clay fill before and it is heavy!! Surprised how little it actually dumped. I’ve considered a gooseneck dump trailer before but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

      I think a gooseneck pulls so much better than a bumper pull. I’d buy a gooseneck over bumper pull on any type of trailer!

    Seemed like it was a bit wimpy on the dumping. I might be wrong but I think my 14' gooseneck has a heavier duty Rugby brand scissor. That material was heavy so owner should just load it in the back end and try a bit more with future loads.

      @EverythingElliott  Місяць тому

      You are fighting a tough fight there, you want the weight in the back for dumping, but you don’t want so much that it doesn’t have enough tongue weight. Theres a perfect balance in there somewhere

    Your dump cylinder has a capacity and it’s under the gvwr. The idea is you could haul a low density load like mulch and also a mini excavator or skid steer. They make this trailer with tandem dual and dual cylinders if you need to dump the max load. I own two for roof tear offs. You’ve kinda got the roofers special. It’ll hold and dump as much shingle and debris as you can stuff into it, but won’t be overloaded the same way a 14k bumper pull would be.

      Am I crazy to think it should be able to dump the payload it’s rated for…

      Leverage is a huge factor with dump trailers. Unfortunately I didn’t load the trailer, so I had no decision in where the material was

  • @1squirreldog
    @1squirreldog Місяць тому

    Its about like everything else made nowadays. Make it look good but use the cheapest material possible just to get by . But yes as a gooseneck they calculate in some weight as being on the truck. That sounds good for gvrw but when it comes to dumping they need enough power to dump the recommended weight & a little extra imo.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Місяць тому

      I think it should be able to dump the weight it’s rated to hold. Now I didn’t scale it so I don’t know exactly, but it certainly didn’t look like 18k

    So 25k on bill of sale.
    20k on trailer sticker?
    .
    Sounds like a de-rated trailer from new. A trick for staying under 26k for non CDL hot shots.
    But the odd thing is 20k trailer and 9k or more on truck gvw is not legal as a non-CDL??
    The gross combination needs to be under 26k
    As crazy as this sounds,Technically empty, they could put you out of service without a cdl.
    .
    My rule is spec a dump hoist thats intended for a bed 2 foot longer then the bed actually is.
    Plus the more bed behind the pivot point the less load on hydraulics.
    .
    We had one truck with 3.5 feet behind the pivot 12' bed with hyd's intended for a 14' bed.
    Would dump dirt 4 foot high.
    .
    It didn't leave private property with that load, rear tires where rubbing bed underside.
    Probably near 15k in dirt

      Anything you hook this trailer to, the driver is required to have a CDL A. I am a firm believer that if a trailer says it can dump X amount of pounds, it should be able to dump X amount of pounds no matter where that load is within the box. I like your idea of making the pivot point further forward, using leverage in your favor!
