This song feels like a Wednesday afternoon and I love it
I had just graduated high school when this song entered my life. I was 17, and my friends and I would all congregate at our friend’s basement, get high, and listen to music like this together. Man, there’d be like twelve people in that basement sometimes. It was the summer after high school, and we were all completely free. Me and some of the guys of that group started a band that would carry us into the next chapter of our lives, the “diy music scene” era, and we’d soon see all the musical/artistic kids that’d graduated from all the high schools of neighboring cities coalesce in a swirling, colorful broth in local bars and in the old college campus houses surrounding the large university in the center of our town, which was itself the center of a loose scattering of towns. We played music like this. I’m 22 now; all the guys I was in that band with moved away. Some of them moved back. Some of the people we met during our time as a band became some of our best friends. Some of those people died. It’s been such a wild ride so far - and I can’t forget that all of that started because of how deeply my soul and the souls of my friends were touched by songs like this. This song was a fork in the path of my life that I’m profoundly grateful for. Despite all the pain, loss, struggle, confusion, and all the other various woes that this life has sent my way, it’s also given me music. Thank God for that, because that’s made it all worthwhile.
