This is the only song that bought me to proper tears first time I heard it, still get a lump in throat on every play now!! Excellent song and absolute credit to the mackenzies for tackling this subject when even today it all seems unfortunately taboo
This used to be one of the biggest dancefloor fillers in a club in Nothern Germany where I wasted my youth. It was called Fiz Oblon, they mixed pop and indie there. This one reigned the floor for years and is still considered "typical Fiz music" by some.
got to agree with garali1973....the live version wipes the floor with this recorded version....the band gave all proceeds from sales of this record to rape crisis.....very gritty but sadly true story.......got every vinyl the mackenzies released....candlestick park live is another belter....
i remember listening to this song in my mates house on vinyl maybe around 89..90.., been looking for it for years...it haunted me all this time...quite something
One of the most powerful songs I ever heard some decades ago and yet we still have Politicians both UK and in the US fighting for anti-abortion laws regardless of circumstance, rather sickening really.
always thought this was their best song and I remember this was getting banned by Radio one and a big hoo ha about it. everything I had was on vinyl, so if anyone has an mpg of their albums I would bow down and beg
If only we had social media then as the radio was a cun# to them. Just saying bring out a remastered album now.. ive seen myself the love for them is alive and well...
I don't think there has been a more harrowing song penned since the early days of Black Sabbath............Actually as a man its a gut punch really and makes me think about how I have behaved in not the best way towards woman.......Nothing like the way they describe in this song no never but just in general...........Wakes you up and woman are vulnerable and as a dude need be there to protect them.
Raped three times, raped three times By the boys from the pub With their daytime jobs You know they need to unwind Mother always said be a good girl Don't push your luck Don't get too low cut But it's a pushy world So if you've got it Flaunt it Because the cameras and bright lights They all want it In silence she sits With the scars on her wrists Shes never alone Those laughing eyes Make her clench her fists For the blood and the sperm Still run down her leg Like it did that night And the sick on the pavement Is still in her hair, still in her hair. Her mind is scarred and her body torn Her life is fear and very soon A scab is born They acquitted the case Congratulations all around And the judge and the barman say If it happened then she must have been Asking for it She was asking for it said she must have been asking for it.
Some people claimed Goodbye Mr McKenzie were just another pop band of the early 90's, think again amazing!!!!! Genius

First time i heard this it was a live version, thats the one i've always prefered.
They were a great band who deserved more success.

since 1987 it still sends shivers down my spine......uncomfortable ones.....
I was listening to Fields of the nephilim then .. both bands seem to have the same dark overtones

didn't know there was a vid for this song either, one of my favourite GMM songs!! Wish Fish Heads and Tails was available on CD!
I'm going to have to dig out those vinyl's now. Saw them live a couple of times. Had forgotten how good they were. Cheers bsblokker
Thanks a lot for this! I love this song since i first heard it! Never expected to find it here!
what a song … so dark and powerful. Martin Metcalfe is the best kind of vocalist - truly emotionally compelling.
Eloquent, brutal and accurate. An amazing piece of songwriting.

No words can ever say how good and what its about. Leading the way back then
My favourite mackenzie song ever.

This could be their best song - horrible but still resonates...
I love this song so f****** much!!!!!

I would love the cd with this song on it.
I know I'm 16 years too late....but if you can find a copy of the album or CD 'Fish Heads and Tails'...it's on that.
Mítica Ruta Destroy.

Lyrics?
Raped three times, raped three times
By the boys from the pub
With their daytime jobs
You know they need to unwind
Mother always said be a good girl
Don't push your luck
Don't get too low cut
But it's a pushy world
So if you've got it
Flaunt it
Because the cameras and bright lights
They all want it
In silence she sits
With the scars on her wrists
Shes never alone
Those laughing eyes
Make her clench her fists
For the blood and the sperm
Still run down her leg
Like it did that night
And the sick on the pavement
Is still in her hair, still in her hair.
Her mind is scarred and her body torn
Her life is fear and very soon
A scab is born
They acquitted the case
Congratulations all around
And the judge and the barman say
If it happened then she must have been
Asking for it
She was asking for it
said she must have been asking for it.
@@shifterbabe69 thank you for the lyrics 😘
