Underrated by whom? Fans? Probably. Management? Possibly. His peers? Absolutely not. People he worked with knew just exactly how talented he is/was and every single one will put him over in any interview.
Yes absolutely! When I was a kid I didn't fully understand the character but he was deferent than everyone else and it was cool. Me and my friends always laughed about "Shattered dreams" 😂
Goldust initial 95-96 run was great, what a legendary heel character. That casket match with Undertaker in particular is one of my favorite Goldust matches and Undertaker matches. I wish he could have continued that version of the character a little longer. Sabledust was really memorable too lol great stuff in that version of Goldust as well.
Honestly if I could play fantasy booker I would have had Goldust as World Champion when the big gold belt was clearly the B title. Multi man ladder match, with Cody involved, Goldust saying he’d help Cody but, as he’s climbing for the belt, he gets betrayed with a chair to the back, Goldust wins the title and says things like “you’re young, you’ll get tons of opportunities but this was my last one” Feud with Cody, so he can win the WHC, so Goldust gets a run for his many years of service and Cody gets one to start a main event push. All of this would have been before Cody left of course but I think Dustin deserved one
That was really interesting when he asked him about Ultimate Warrior. No one has ever asked him about that before and that was a really odd clash between characters.
I always loved this guy. Seems like a nice dude. ❤️ and that original Goldust theme/music was amazing. And Marlena. I loved that whole gimmick from the start. 😘 I dont watch Wrestling anymore but "GO CODY!" Rhodes family fan. 🎉
I mean, it would make sense - who could Dustin have picked who would be a bigger icon of androgyny to try to inform the character he was building? Good catch, man! ✌️
I feel like the Hollywood backlot brawl he had with Piper at WM is very underrated because it doesn’t get mentioned a lot, I don’t know if it doesn’t get mentioned because Goldust lost the match but for me he played the heel very well & the match is a standout memory of mine. Goldust/Dustin is a great worker & I’m happy for him that he’s doing more in AEW
It's interesting because if you watch the Raw where Goldust does the Dusty impression (Goldust vs Bradshaw), Jim Ross says something on commentary along the lines off "before any Dusty fans start writing in upset, know that a WWF official talked to Dusty about it early today and it was approved and Dusty Rhodes laughed at it...
I still say the best thing they could do at Wrestlemania is have Goldust come out of nowhere and save his brother from the bloodline. Give The Rock a shattered dreams. Would get a huge pop.
I hope Dustin returns to WWE as soon as possible. He can do a handful of Goldust spots with R-Truth and a few as Dustin with Cody. A funny social media clip would be him painted half as Goldust and keep turning left and right between Truth and Cody.. Having a ridiculous convo with Truth, a meaningful convo with Cody, and Booker T walks in.... And then it's full early Goldust with just ridiculous innuendos, and Booker & Goldust sit down in a theater and watch Scorpion King one last time, and Goldust says "This is B-B-B-B- Bullshit
Man if only Goldust at his peak happened 2 years later when Vince was moe willing to push boundaries. Maybe it wouldn't have worked, but original Goldust was SUCH a great character, and 'The Artist formerly known as' was pretty whack in comparison.
Lmfao...all the Bloodline/Rock/Cody stuff out the window night 2...Golddust arrives with some dwarves, S.A.'s everyone, and HHH declares him Universal champ
I was in high school when "goldust" was a thing, holy crap, people that didn't "know" wrestling were talking about him. I dont think that persona would get a pop today or reaction like it did then, you'd have to do some really weird stuff now
I'm surprised Vince didn't ask him to give someone a Russo right in the center of the ring. Golddust damn near got wrestling banned in my house growing up lol
Its interesting that Dustin said his dad was pissed over the Dustin Rhodes impersonation (@13:35), on the actual match JR mentions that someone from wwe was in contact with Dusty earlier in the day and mentioned Dustin doing an impersonation of him for a match and supposedly Dusty found it funny. ua-cam.com/video/OLrHeRYuXw0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=holyroller JR says it at 2:20.
@@frankstallone3864 true but everyone knew at the time that dustin and his dad were on the outs, so I'm more suspect about jr saying that they called dusty and he supposedly found the situation funny.

Sometimes I wonder what angles could of worked in Wrestling. What if they turned Goldust straight, what if Undertaker turned gay? What if Chyna was a woman?
The character was too ahead of it’s time With all the LGTB 🌈 movements in recent years if the Goldust character burst onto the scene today he would have been pushed to the top
GLAAD was on WWF’s ass at the time about Goldust for his stereotyping though. Maybe if they played it in a more respectable manner, but I can arguably see it being more controversial nowadays. He had AMAZING heat at the time though.
Is Dustin Rhodes an underrated performer? Let us know in the comments!
Hell yeah he is
Yeah i think so especially how many years he put in the business from WcW to WWE
I think a WWE champ run would really have shaken up the wwe ! He was very underrated !
Goldust was the best creepiest wrestler there was, Dustin did a great job with it.
Underrated by whom? Fans? Probably. Management? Possibly. His peers? Absolutely not. People he worked with knew just exactly how talented he is/was and every single one will put him over in any interview.
Goldust vs Taker should have been a bigger feud. Perfect character contrast.
Lol no I couldn't
I would've hated Goldust. Which would've been perfect! What a potential feud
I agree
Yes absolutely! When I was a kid I didn't fully understand the character but he was deferent than everyone else and it was cool. Me and my friends always laughed about "Shattered dreams" 😂
I hope Cody gets to induct Goldust into the Hall of Fame some day.
Oh he will. No doubt about it.
@@Big.Stepper. It's a matter of time before Dustin is gone from AEW. It has to happen.
That would be dope. Then later in the years Dustin can induct Cody in the HoF even though the HoF is a joke.
Warrior and Dustin had a really underrated Raw match I thought in KOTR that year. Dustin got a lot out of him.
i would accept booker t if not cody
Dustin Rhodes has always been underrated. Hes great on mic, a great entertainer, and his wrestling is magicccccc
I remember i stared watching Dustin in the WCW in the 80s. This man is GREAT in the wrestling ring and mic.
Goldust is underrated as a wrestler and performer
His segments in WWF always hrought out a laugh
His stuff with R Truth freaking cracks me up
Loved seeing Dustin has peace of mind in the latest dusty Rhodes legends show
Honestly if I could play fantasy booker I would have had Goldust as World Champion when the big gold belt was clearly the B title.

Sounds shitty.
Sounds shitty.
That would be a dope storyline. Someone should definitely hire you as a booker. ✌️
96 was the perfect time where Goldust could have legitimately held the WWE title
Yes, and then had a feud with Shawn Michaels. They had a ladder match at a house show in Toronto that summer in 1996 but I missed it.
Mmmmm challenging for it sure but winning it idk
Goldust was underappreciated
Love gold dust
"Cornbread, dammit, cornbread!" - Goldust
That was really interesting when he asked him about Ultimate Warrior. No one has ever asked him about that before and that was a really odd clash between characters.
0:07(ish) - took me a second to realize that my phone was NOT, in fact, requiring GPU acceleration...
xD
Why didn't we get a Goldust blu-ray on his career and matches 😤😤
"Dustin wanted to get breast implants and we had to talk him out of it" - Jim Cornette
He was ahead of his time lol. That's definitely a 2024 the now
Surprised Vince didn't 'milk" that for all he could.
Dustin didn't realise he could've just worn a padded bra
He already has boobies.
Talking about dedication to a damn gimmick holy shit😄
The David Bowie of wrestling.
that be Chris jericho

I've never heard anyone else say "fuck me pumps" except for Bowie. He must be a fan. At least, I hope so.

@@cipherpac Totally. I would like to think Diamond Dogs enjoyed a heavy rotation period.
Goldust should’ve been WWE champion at least once. He was so over it was insane.

“I’m an artist.”
I think that aspect of wrestling often gets ignored. The performance aspect of it.
Only reason I tuned into AEW was because I heard Dustin was on there. I enjoyed it so much so, I rewatched Cody's run in between weeks

Golddust was so amazing, the rainbow mob helped to kill his character. Nowadays dei wwe wouldn’t even allow that kind of character even in the arena.
I remember golddust debut, he was different and interesting and u wanted to watch him. Marlana was great as well
Why so many reposts?
Deserves to be in the hall of fame
He's 100% right, I remember when HBK came back to Montreal after the whole thing in the 90s. That whole area was still angry years after.
Let’s get this man in wwe

I heard Vince tried this with nailz once and it didn’t end well 😂
Ha taker the golden age is back
Dustin had on his fuck me pumps 😂😂😂😂
Golddust is the second greatest gimmick in all of wrestling. Truly great.
Whats the first?
Prichard forcing Dustin to do that or face ramifications with his job is so messed up.
Can't stand that dude.
We just gonna ignore the fact that Golddust was playing DJ on Taker's sac during a commercial break? Really? The audience no sold it too lol

Marilyn Manson and Goldust were both awesome back then
Nice to hear a wrestler not trash Warrior .
the Natural was his best gimmick. by far.

96th, but work for a living. Lol😅

Oh Boomer Dustin 🤡
He was born in 69 🤡...so you figure it out.
hmm dont know if I would call this dude an artist - he seems pretty simple to me. Why on earth you would want to play a gay character that time. Geeze
Because it’s a great character?
Late 90s were a much different time
Because it was vinces idea and Dustin was getting paid alot so there ya go.
He wasn't a gay character it was Androgynous character.
He was forced this gimmick and tried to make it "work" as an FU but ended up looking like the loser who did the gay gimmick
Unlike Undertaker: Goldust was actually entertaining.
I don’t think Undertaker actually understands just how boring we all found him
