Installed shorty Flowtech headers from Summit racing and noticed a loss of torque, combined with larger exhaust tube diameter... So I thought I would share a few of my thoughts on the benefits of longtubes...and Pipe diameters - Авто та транспорт
Very nice video. You gave me the answer I was looking for on which headers would fit my truck. Could never seem to get a straight answer out of anybody. Thanks!
You tell stories very well, loved the way you told the story about the Jacob's coil and the msd wires
Quite interesting the guy with the aftermarket illegal exhaust on the pickup complaining about the truckers.
My 1st experience with shorties came as an accident. My brother had a 79 Indy Pace car in 1988. All stock 302 SROD 4spd except had 650 spreadbore with square adapter to EDL perfomer inntake(we kinda made a torker intake B4 such a thing was around) engine was 30 over forged pistons and a mild crane econocam. With Hedman longtubes (1 1/2 primaries) and hwy gears 2:73, the car did an honest 145 mph it was a freak BUT in the quarter, 16.40ET. (continued)
Wish you would have recorded the install. I'm having a ton of issues getting my long tubes in my 95 Bronco with 5.0.
Shane Weaver any luck on getting them onto your bronco? I have a 94 and was wanting to go to long tube headers with a set of purple hornies glass packs. So far I’ve put twisted heads on it, new cam, lifters, installed a tuned ford lightning intake oversized injectors, and a ford lightning tubed intake manifold, msdi iginition, cold air intake, egr delete, and smog delete along with a timing gears not chain driven. I’m just worried about clearing with long tube headers and haven’t seen anyone with a bronco has has them.
@@dimensionalencounter3689 how did you tune it to read the oversized injector bro? Did you change out the computer for a new one ?
Sorry I no longer have that truck anymore I can't show you how I put the air temp sensor in but I can tell you that I just installed it in the metal bracket that took place of the air box.
Im going with shorties on my f250 5.8 cause im sick and tired of changing cast manifolds cause they are notorious for cracking !!!!
And expensive! A good set of headers are the same cost as one manifold by the jesus
got shorty headers on my 96 tahoe and been thinking of reworking the entire exhaust with long tube headers new cats mufflers and an h pipe
+ScoobyDigites sounds like a plan!! and a big job too.. good luck
I own and drive a 96 fl50 xlt single rear gas tank long bed two wheel drive model. And i will tell you i love my truck.
Here is my replacement for that F150 ua-cam.com/video/zIpQSNp0b1g/v-deo.html
Joe Dirt me too but I got a double gas tank on my truck
@@ghostjr7234 same i got a 92 and 95 nice looking trucks

just goes to show you that these nineth generation f150s are built like tanks.

Mine sure is, heavy and slow 🤣
I have a 95 f150 5.0 with a k&k intake like that can you make a video about how you made your sensors the k&n intake
nice exhaust header's
Matthew Mattix Thanks! Got rid of the f150 for a f250 and put some good exhaust on that one too ua-cam.com/video/6Gjmxh2Qxk8/v-deo.html

oh ok will those header's work on a 1982 ford f150 with the 351w that's carbureted
My truck bought new in sc, not one single speck of rust under the entire truck.
You ought to see how clean & rust free my 1986 Bronco 351 XLT is and my 1988 Bronco XLT 5.0 are from out here in New Mexico.
I bought Flowtech for my '66 Ford pickup the first time around. Big mistake. They didn't even fit. hit on the engine mounts while trying to install. Tried to hammer-fit them, and bent the flange. Then I spent the money i should have in the first place on a pair of Hedman Hedders. No modifications required. They went right in.
The Hedman's were the best choice for me too.
so did those headers have bungs for the O2 sensors? i have a 96 5.0 i want to put long tubes on, but they need to have O2 sensor bungs
I think you did a good job. I also think that you have changed two different things and make the comments as to the long vs short, but changed the diameter of the Y-Pipe and post the result as the headers sucking. Better than a lot of what people do, but I think shorties have their place on an engine.
Nice work
Thanks man!
I have a 95 eddie bower f150 i have a set of shorties i want to put on but i want to switch to duel flow masters.
Remember, the best dual exhaust systems have a crossover pipe for better Scavenging
I own a 96 f150 xl with a 5 litre 302 v8 4x4 and I put dual exhaust on it ( and yes it is true dual)
You should always add a crossover pipe you'll get better Scavenging and more power
Well. Wheres that 10 year review?
Good video
Good sound
Thanks
What do you do with the EGR ATTACHMENT?
at 2:14, look at the end of the raduis arm bushing..that washer is rotted away. probably I would clean this up and looks for rot before I put any more money into it. They are damn good trucks though.
+giskard80 the washers were rough but the rubber was still being supported and doing its job.. Rust Belt trucks all eventually look this way and we really ring the life out of the metal parts before replacing.. Actually the bushings finally got replaced after lasting almost a full 2 years after this video (see it here>> ua-cam.com/video/uya0_R5TSGU/v-deo.html .. even then I was replacing the radius arm because it failed first.. I pulled a 6000 lb RV with another 600 pounds in the bed with no problems but the lack of power as I was near/over my GCVW for the combination truck/trailer/passengers and cargo... So I sold to a new owner and Now I got this one... ua-cam.com/video/zIpQSNp0b1g/v-deo.html
I came back to this video after a few years and am wondering how the system is doing for you? My 95 302 engine is being rebuilt and bored and the manifolds fell apart from rust so looking to a similar, if not exact, set up. Any reliability issues with the EFI, leaking tubes which have to be frequently tightened and overall performance. Thanks
The truck did me well.. We sold our popup camper and towed our new to us travel trailer a few 200 mile round trips. The travel trailer weighed approx 5700lbs and although the engine worked hard it got the task done... However, knowing that we would eventually get into yet a bigger travel trailer later we decided to become proactive and bought a newer(97) F250 Big Block.. So the good old f150 is gone to a friend owner..
I have a xlt 95 f-150 5.0 4x4 auto/OD, bought truck with 30k Miles 3 years ago and I put 35k miles on it, zero issues, zero rust, truck looks new still(still orig brakes, I just changed orig plugs, tune up etc) still has all orig exhaust. But I just started towing a 4,000 pound trailer and on hills I need more power. Now debating, do I sell the truck or put money into it upgrading. I live in Wa state, so many hills, truck has 3.23 gears, so not great for towing.
+Bill C So, you've come to a crossroad..Either modify you small block truck or get another.. Well at least you live in a clean vehicle state not like the rust belt I reside in so finding another rust free truck should be easier. Let me give you my .02cents..
I was in the same boat as you maybe even slightly better because my 2wd allowed for slightly more factory tow rating and even though not the ideal tow gears I had a better 3.55s.
So I thought modifying would be the way to go...AND although it helped I wouldnt do it over again..
I had Mallory Hyfire ignition with MSD coil and 8.5 wires, Hi Performance cap rotor(thicker for arcing).. Also, cooler hiflow thermostat,2 core 460 radiator, long tube ceramic headers, no cats, 2 1/2 into 3" welded muffler back exhaust. EGR penny trick(1/8" hole drilled),KNN Cold air intake, all synthetic fluids including transmission with external towing cooler and I had it all in a perfect state of tune, injectors cleaned(manually) with throttle body too. with all that here is a video link to what happened ua-cam.com/video/zIpQSNp0b1g/v-deo.html and BOY what a difference..
Hi i have 95 ford bronco 351 5.8l and i ordered a stainless T-304 stainless steel HDS F15080 Long tube on amazon and im wondering if theirs alot fabricated to make it fit. And whats the easy way to install them take off the fender well covers or just undo it from underneath? Thanks appreciate your video.
Sone Mikaele sorry, I have no experience with 95 Bronco or 351 V8. I also have never used the headers HD F15080 from Amazon. Headers are normally installed from underneath the vehicle. I don't know if you need to do any fabrication or not. Good luck.
What did you do with the egr tube to keep the check engine light off? What’s the part number on these headers?
shorties are really good for running turbos. the faster you can get the gasses to the turbos the better. Long tube headers on a ford paired with 2 n 1/2 pipe has always worked the best for low end on my 98. I also switched to 3.73 gears. fuel milage went up and power went up. Ford runs that gear ratio stock in later models with th 5.4L so you might consider that swap.
any power gain with the header? and that cold intake.. you should of left the old air box in it and put a K&N air filter?
Headers are about a 15% increase over manifolds.. No matter how free flowing the air filter, the factory air intake is the major restriction.
Foxboss9 as i read through the f-series forums, guys use the stock air box (including myself) cause the truck comes with the mass air flow sensor. i own a 96 f150 v8 302 5.0 .. but im still thinking about switching out the the whole air unit. someone needs to bust that myth.
Take a tube of Lucas red and tacky grease and half a wax toilet bowl ring heat and mix it all up in a cooking pot and brush it on the INSIDE of your rear wheel wells, cab corners and anywhere else. Use chain lube in hard to reach places. Give it a good hosing, flush out those rear wheel wells before applying and let it dry. Did this to my 95 in rustbelt alberta. 15 years no rust!!
I went to a muffler shop today and they said not to get headers on my 86 with a 460. I'm thinking of the flowtech as well. They said that headers in general are unreliable-that the gaskets need to be replaced yearly and headers crack. I was really looking forward to the improved fuel economy since this is my daily driver. What has your experience been?
You may have to replace header gaskets every 7000-10000 miles.. The better the header flange and the more quality the header gasket, the longer they last.. You also have to re-torque the header bolts a few times after installing the headers for the first time or when changing gaskets... With all that said, There are some header manufacturers that make such good headers that you don't even need to run gaskets... The hedman headers I have in the link amzn.to/1OQ4yzo
are really decent for the price and the gaskets never leaked after I re-torqued them a few times during the first year of use.. I sold the truck after running it 11,000 miles with those headers on it.. No leaks
Headers don't crack nearly as often as stock manifolds, and if they Do crack, they can be fixed. Cast iron manifolds never stop cracking after they fail.
Where u get ur air intake
Guys help! I have long tube Hedman long tube headers. I want to run my O2 and have some options to either delete and remove my EGR, or keep it. What should I do?
The O2 sensor has to be connected regardless if you try to run without an EGR. Personally I would keep the EGR as I've never seen any bad effects with an EGR being run. If you want you can Google "penny in the EGR tube trick" that is discussed on Ford truck forums..
THe penny trick is on the exhaust side. I need to plug the other side...have you done EGR delete at all?
I need help, I have 94 ford f150 xlt with 5.0. I want to change the stock headers on it to full length headers and run open headers, no exhaust. is this possible and doable? what complications will I encounter?
josh juarez depends on the header brand but pretty much all of them will go on without much trouble.. You will have to modify your coil mount bracket and dipstick tube.. Getting the stock exhaust manifolds off could cause bolts to break off in the head.. If you have never installed headers before it would be best to find someone who has to help out.. I learned no matter how many sets of headers I have installed in the past(13 on just Small Block Fords) that there is always something new, and unique to adjust or modify each time ... Take your time and expect issues to pop up.. If this is your first time installing headers I would be surprised if you get them on correctly within 10 hours... good luck
i am planning on full tube, i got 2.5 in true duals you think if i kept the same size it would be fine, and how much hp/tq is gained from stock to full tube
***** and did you have any issues with it being close to the tranny i heard you have to bend it or it will heat up the pan?
***** I would think 10-15% more hp. 2.5 will work fine to make sure you get full scavenging make sure to add an h or x pipe off the header collectors first.
***** No issues with tranny heat. I had the pipe bent in the stock location and I wrapped anything close to the headers with heat tape link HERE >> amzn.to/1TvNHar
What are the bolt sizes you use
Can u find the link that fit the 5.0 for those msd super conductor wires please!!
Just watch my older videos... I think it's in the desc of this one ua-cam.com/video/KoqFO-TovkI/v-deo.html
I have a 95 f150 5.0 and wanted to know is if I plan on running individual pipes for mu cold air intake to the throttlebody does the MAF have to connect to both or can it just be run inline on only just one?? am I making sense?
+patrick mcglone mass air meter measures the total amount of air being drawn into the engine and makes adjustments based on that. If the engine is drawing in somewhere else other than the MAF It will not perform well.. tour CAI has to pull through the MAF,all of it.
when you had the shorties on were you running the 2 cats? I have a 96 with the 5.0 and was considering putting shorties on it and keeping the cats since my state (CT) requires them for emissions.
No laws for us here so, No.. I removed cats.. Matter of fact every vehicle I have installed headers on for the past 30 years have been cat-less😊
I bought some Summit shortys made by Pacesetter, and I'll be putting them on in a month or so.
we have no emission testing at all in my county... I could run straight headers If I could stand the noise on a daily basis... a few counties over it would not pass.. A Cat converter has to be installed if originally equipped and they put the sniffer in the pipe too..
How’s your rear leaf spring mounts looking.....rotted the frame off yet...be sure to check that very dangerous
I replaced those Within three months of buying the truck. Have plenty of experience doing those not only this truck but my previous F150 also
Frame under that look pretty good to?
I want to switch out my manifolds with longe tube headers, where does the egr valve go with the headers
brian mosley didn't I show that?
brian mosley nevermind I forgot this was a 302 and the EGR tube comes off of the back of the head and is not affected by the exhaust manifolds or headers at all. But if you have an engine that the EGR tube connects to the exhaust you can watch my F250 video and it will show you roughly what you need to do. Here's a link to that video ua-cam.com/video/r19a0xz9bLM/v-deo.html
Foxboss9 I have the 351 & I just got a new egr valve & now I want to switch to headers but the egr valve leads into the manifolds
brian mosley yep, that's the way my 460 is. I did a shorty header swap originally and then I remove the shorty headers and install bank's torque tubes long headers. They both required a fitting and some modification for me to connect the EGR tube to one of the primary tubes. Like I said that video that I linked in the previous response should show what I had to do to make it work.
Foxboss9 okay I’ll watch it. But if I take my truck to a shop what would they do to it. I’m wanting the headers with no cats, with true dual flomaster super 40’s & the truck is 4wd & has the dual tanks would there be any problems
How did you get them in??? I have a set and I can’t get them in do I have to lift the engine??
so what did you do about the o2 sensor? you cut the cats out and ran new piping off the headers and drilled a hole in the pipe and placed the o2 sensors back or did you just take off the o2 sensor
nascarcrazfan only one O2 sensor for these trucks.. So I welded a bung on the y-pipe and used an extension harness to reinstall the original.. It's a lot easier to do on these pre-OBDII vehicles..
Where did you get your vacuum hoses? The small red, black, green, yellow... I’ve been having a hard time locating replacements for my 1992 Bronco.. Thanks ahead of time for your help!
I was using old oxygen line, you know like old people use with their oxygen tanks oh, and I was just patching the black vacuum line that way. However, Advance Auto Parts sells vacuum line
When you added the air intake, exhaust, and headers were you surprised with the horsepower? Thinking about doing all those upgrades too my 89f150 4x4 manual.
The full length headers, removing the smog pump and catalytic converters, and doing a Flowmaster exhaust. In addition to the MSD aftermarket ignition and wires definitely that makes a good amount of difference. The air intake you could probably get away with just a K&N panel filter in the stock air intake system to keep things a little bit cheaper.
@@Foxboss9what did you do with the down stream o2 sensor with having no cats? I wanna do this but keep the gas mileage up by having a working down stream sensor
Ok so do u recomend me to add headers to my 92 inline 6.?? Since I have to replace the manifolds (dual).
I would not, it's a pretty drawn out process for the inline-6 and although that 300 cubic inch 4.9 is an unbelievable engine and is known to be one of the best that Ford has ever made, it has never been considered to be any kind of Performance Engine and although headers may help, they would definitely take away from the reliability and from the low end torque that the engine has been known for. I would just replace the manifolds with some good Ford Originals.
Foxboss9 good point. Thanks for your response 🤙🏾
Hey I have a 1995 Ford F-150 5.8 351 the sensor that comes out from the exhaust manifold.i change the manifold to long tube headers. And the sensor can't connect it to the headers.where did u connect yours at I see it comes from the throttle baddie to the bottom off it!!! How did u do it and where did u connect it too
extension wire HERE -- amzn.to/2fHD7CQ
where did you hook up the EGR sensor? i want to install long tube headers on mine 94 f150 but my town requires emissions testing so i need to keep the egr.
The EGR tubing is not affected by installing headers other than it's slightly in the way and you went may have to bend it to get the headers on it's not an issue. However if you have an air pump and your air injection currently runs into the manifold you're going to need to buy emissions headers that have air tubes on them
@@Foxboss9 thanks for the info, kinda new to this as you can probably tell. all i know is that its a 94 f150 5.0 4x4 5 speed manual. based on that info would you know if my air injection runs into the manifold?
In mid 1990s I ran used 1989 stock 5.0 mustang shorty headers in my 82 f150 302 2.5 off header into 3" y - 3" single dual chamber flowmaster no cats , sounderd like a monster when I put my foot in it & ran so much better
Then he backed over a curb damaging headers, he bought short headers, again, 1 1/2 primaries with no other changes, the car would top out at 120mph and his quarter mile times became 15.60's. Thus I started to better realize the constant debate about HP Vs Torque and which direction to build an engine torwards,,
Does this truck handle a cam swap better than some of 460s of this generation?
Because of the MAF, yes.... But California Trucks equipped with 460's also had MAF....
what was that gray monitor on your dash?
Any idea if 88 long tube 351w headers will Work on my 95 351w?
Thomas Ingram sorry not sure... They should as the chassis barely changed... You may want to call Summit Racing tech line with the part number of the headers to see if they would cover your truck too..
Foxboss9 hey thanks for the reply man! I got a stellar deal on some and got them. Could sell them for more than I paid worst case scenario. Wasn’t sure if the EFI changed anything on the heads
just put long tubes on my 88 f150 302. what did you do with the EGR tube that used to go to the cats? did you plus it? attach it back on? or just do a complete EGR delete ?
The tube that went to my Catalytic converter was not an EGR tube, it is an air tube that went to my air pump. I just left it disconnected and secured out of the way so it wouldn't rattle. My EGR tube goes to the heads and I left intact.
Foxboss9 it’s been awhile since these comments, where on the heads did you apply the egr tube when you added headers?? Thanks in advance
If u still got the shorty headers you should give them to me for my truck. 😂😂👍👍.
V8 Gaming they were sold years ago.. Lol
Do you remember what shorties you had on there ?
he said flowtech at the start of the video.
Did you delete all the airpump egr? Would you email me.
Nope air pump EGR everything stayed intact except I removed the catalytic converters obviously. You don't want to remove an EGR on a gas engine. It has to do with the efficiency and cylinder reversion there's a lot to it. Also you pop a code in the computer try to work around it.
Thank you for the reply. Really appreciate it. I just hate all the solenoids on top of driver valve cover. I didnt see that mess under ur hood.
Any tips on removing the oem manifolds? Any forums you know of for the 5.8s ?
@@GodsGraceGodsFreedom plan on breaking bolts off in head and drilling and tapping them out... 😁
Did you have to tune your truck to run ok with the long tubes, does it run lean?
Computer will handle bolt on modifications except a few extremes(supercharger, Turbo, giant cam, etc..)
Are the long tube headers any easier to install than the Shorties? Looks like these tubes go out away from the heads which would make it easier to install. I'd buy long tubes JUST for that as long as they would directly connect to the y-pipe.
The long tube headers are equally difficult to install compared to the Shorties as far as the way they pulled up to the head however underneath it gets a little bit more complicated for both the shorty header and the long tube header. The shorty headers Outlet is higher up in the chassis so it's a little bit more difficult to reach the bolts that are required to connect your y-pipe or if you have pipe bent for the short ones. The longer tube headers exit underneath the truck at a lower point so the collector bolts are easier to Titan all except for the odd one out that might be close to the frame or up on top of the header collector if you don't spin The Collector flange in the correct position. Also long tube headers sometimes make it slightly more difficult to access the starter. As a general rule if I am installing long tube headers on my truck I usually install a brand new starter at the same time. Also with long tube headers you may want to look at the potential of needing some sort of a heat shield to help protect the starter from the heat of all the tubes going past it. Actually that heat shield tip could be also needed for short tube headers. Basically no one makes a perfect Plug & Play header so there may be some slight difficulty with either one's being installed I find that the performance gains with the long tube header is great enough that I just would rather run the long tubes instead of the Shorties. But then again I have no emissions check here whatsoever so I am usually removing my Y pipe and catalytic converters so the benefit of having a shorty header to retain those things don't pertain to my application. Good luck and have patience these things just don't fall in place on their own.
WHAT IS THE ENGINE ON YOUR 150? LOOKS LIKE A FORD 351/5.8 WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER? CAN THEY BE HOOKED UP USING THE STOCK Y PIPE?
I HAVE A F 350/ ONE TON DUALLY WITH AUTO REAR WHEEL DRIVE NOT 4X4, WITH TWO PIPES BEHIND THE PASSENGER WHEEL. FROM THE Y PIPE IS A CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THANKS RON NEW JERSEY
+rafdecc it's a 302.. For the headers I used in this video is HERE -- amzn.to/1OQ4yzo Click the link then enter your vehicle info then search for what fits.. The only headers that can hook up to stock Y-pipe is Shorty headers..thanks for watching..
Now ive heard long tubes dont fit well on the f150 4wd trucks
Christopher Hampton the instructions for not only the F-150 or F250 with long tube headers usually have different accommodations that have to be done when installing on a four-wheel drive. But it's nothing crazy it's usually extending the sway bar end link. Again it's not very difficult to do it's just an extra step.
Thats a good truck you got there. might i ask, what engine it has in it?
5.0
What's the tick/knock noise? Same on mine and it's driving me crazy. Thanks!
Valves knocking, either run better gas, or a quick valve job.
Thanks bud!
What muffler?
Logan Van Buren thrush welded
How hard was it to put them on?
Rocky Richards it's more difficult going from manifolds to headers due to the likelihood of manifolds bolts busting off in the head.. once manifolds are off not hard at all..
please tell me because I'm fuckn stuck on my 1993 bronco I cant get the flange bolts out on the passenger side what do I do??? trying to put JBA shorty competition headers on it and those bolts are out of reach
Some of the bolts are easier to be removed from underneath. Don't be in a rush and expect that they may break off..
+Foxboss9 I have been under it I just can't reach the second flange bolt because its out of the way
+Nick David you'll may have to use a boxed end wrench and when installing the headers you will most likely need to use an open end wrench... I always find tightening the bolts once the headers are on more challenging then exhaust manifolds.. If you haven't already, remove the air plastic tunes that run alongside the valve covers. Just keep trying different length extensions and ratchet combinations. You may find a 3/8 drive deepwell socket with a 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapter using a 1/2 drive ratchet works better than just a 3/8 ratchet with a extension.. It takes so time to figure it out.. Ask a Friend to try
.. there is a saying among mechanics working together about "different hands" being able to get the job done for no apparent reason other than someone "different" is trying..
I literally heard that saying the otherday at work lol what about a bendy extension on an electric impact? the catilitic converter is in the way and I have absolutely no room to get to the bolt with a regular extension
Nick David Oh you are talking about the Y pipe... You need really long 3/8 extensions.. I usually put them together til they total about 30 inches or so
where did you get the y pipe?
had the exhaust shop bend from the headers back..it's cheap around here .. they charge anywhere between $160 and $225 for a header/manifold back system if you supply the muffler..
Nice truck. I feel sorry for all you people up north. I hate, hate, hate rust. I had a nice '96 F-150 a while back. I hope to get myself another truck like this soon.
Rust SUCKS!
Rust is the worst, I've got a 95 7.3 with rust on it
+DodgeGuy67 Once it starts it's Game Over
+Foxboss9 it's ok though mine is inside my garage, turns out it's a perfect fit lol there's like an inch left between the grill guard and the garage door lol
+DodgeGuy67 Definitely a good idea to keep it dry.. I leave mine in a gravel drive that seems to always be wet.. After 8 years of faithful service I got into a bigger RV and decided to give the small block F150 a new home and moved into a less rusty(barely any) F250.. See it here - - ua-cam.com/video/zIpQSNp0b1g/v-deo.html
What muffler are you running?
Thrush welded muffler HERE-- amzn.to/2vYoyBn
When uou installed your headers did uou reweld the egr exhaust line back on there
I removed air injection and air pump... Egr is not effected
Because i installed long tube headers on mine and left the egr exhaust line disconnected and after about a month it develop a lag in power i cant floor it all the way cause it like chokes and it struggles bad to go over 65-70mph and idea what it could be
okie dokie... ok here's another question, probably stupid, but I'm going to ask it anyway... can (2) MAF be installed?
+patrick mcglone anything can be done BUT you would need an electrical engineer to figure out the wiring in regards to reference voltage and supply voltage going to the ECM without feedback. You would also need to splice the harness and "y-in" another connector and again have an engineer figure out how to supply the ECM with one combined airflow value without crossfeeding signals. In short, unless you are doing this for a desired show truck effect there really isn't any reason to add all the extra parts and potential problems that comes with that type of modification.. Just find a 2 into 1 air snorkel from a knn kit or old powerdyne/vortech supercharger.. Or fabricate one yourself walk through Lowes or Home Depot plumbing and HVAC departments, you may find something that you can work with. Just remember no air leaks between the MAF and the throttle body.. Good luck
Hard to install? Did you go from the top or bottom of it?
I think one side was from up top and the other was from down below from what I can remember. It's always different. I've had different brands of shorties that went in different ways
What kind of fuel mileage do you get with that setup?
Sweet truck. Love the upgrades. Have A similar setup on my 93. Check out my most recent videos

Got shorty headers and they melt a plug boot
Harry DALE II all headers are pretty close to the boots... I run MSD 8.8 straight boots that allow for a custom bend to accommodate the primary tube differences...
I've a '95 with a cracked manifold on the passenger side so thanks for your insight and inspiration to the long-v-short headers. Is an "x" pipe needed? Where does the cross pipe go in relation (thank you Davin) to the transmission/ cross member?
I'm no expert but from what bit I've learnt an X or H pipes will allow for better equalization of exhaust gasses and to figure the best place to put them you draw a line in crayon on your exhaust and run the truck, the crayon will melt only so far and where it stops is where you put your X or H pipe.
Oh and by the way there is nothing wrong with jame breaks
There is whenever the township enacted an ordinance and there are signs posted not to use them
Love the sound And I know you love the truck 😎 where can I get the K&N ? I have 92 XLT looks like your's short bed 👍😎
Engine brake is quieter then a truck going through your house
I think you are mistaking the engine brake for the steering wheel... I wonder how all the trucks that are NOT equipped with engine brakes managed... LOL
Got love all that Ohio rust....
So glad I live in Texas my 95 f150 5.8L has little to no rust.
Unless you have 600+ HP, a Big Block and or a diesel the larger diameter exhaust hurts power. 2.5” max actually helps flow and prevents scavenging. Shorty makes high end power. Long tube helps low end HP & torque and usually significantly. Some engines are more restricted than others from the factory. Other combos like head swaps, intake manifold and intakes, cam etc can drastically alter what headers may and may not do for power. Bigger is not always more.
The sound of an engine brake is quieter than your screams when the trucker goes through your house.
Are we seriously putting headers on and bitching about exhaust brake wtf
Jake's are for helping us to slow with heavy loads don't like it stop buying stuff problem solved
Engine brakes are for truck drivers that think they're driving sports cars. You know the hill is there, you know the traffic light is there, yet you still want to hear that engine noise coming out pipes even if you're running empty and there are signs posted not to use an engine brake. Be courteous, problem solved
do the headers destroy your starter from the extra heat?
