My assumption (with no evidence) is that Onlyphone was just the local small-town phonograph shop that decided to go all-in by using their own brand, which would indicate that they might have sold locally branded phonographs as well. I have never encountered an onlyphone phonograph, but there might be one out there in a barn in Ohio.
It may look like the label is done manually with a typewriter, but its probably done by mimeograph. They typed up the stencil on a type writer with the ribbon moved out of the way, then put the stencil sheet in the mimeograph machine and ran off enough copies of the label as they needed before punching the round label out.
Hello Marshall! Do you know what? I have been collecting for decades and I have never had anyone point out that "typewritten" labels could have been run off on a mimeograph machine. That makes SO much sense. Thank you!
So my United Talking machine record with the very large hole was made by another company? Someone put felt on my disc so regular hole discs could be played on my machine.
When I see old shellac records at yard sales and Goodwill I always buy the entire lot. Nobody else will and they will just go in the trash otherwise. I end up with 40-50 lb boxes or a tattered old binder crumbling in my hands with records not played since WW1 for just a couple bucks. I seem to remember seeing a something-phone label, but I am not entirely certain. Just a blur of names among many. I'll have to look again now that I seen this video. They all need to be washed and taken better care of, some have mildew growing on them and they have a particular odor that makes my nose runny.
The main studio turntable is currently in the middle of its yearly maintenance cycle, but I can make transfers once I get everything re-assembled. The music is pretty dull : )
I love this channel
Very nice! I wonder if they sold rebranded Standard machines as well, as the company name was the Onlyphone Talking Machine Company.
