The metal Lamy based on the Safari platform is the AL-Star. Same shape and grip, but in anodized aluminum instead of ABS plastic. They offer a full line (rollerball, ballpoint, pencil, and, my preferred mode, fountain pen). They have a core set of colors (for the Safari, red, blue, yellow, white, and black), and an annual limited edition offering. Great pens-I definitely recommend.
Former Marine - and I do have a Rumpl but must say…. I LOVE my Pendleton wool blanket. It goes everywhere with me and is getting tattered on the edges as a testament to how many adventures it goes on. I bought them for both my kids and told them “don’t baby this - it is meant to be used”. They also love their woolen blankets.
I found for the Field Notes Expedition edition, nothing beats a Bic Crystal to get the job done. That Lamy Safari rollerball is a great EDC pen, but the paper will not absorb the ink well and smudge what you write or draw across those pages. The oil based ink of your Bic won't smudge, and for the price, the Lamy can pay for a lifetime of Bic Crystal pens.
Pentel P209 best pencil ever made and you know it is nice to be able to erase things and the .9mm lead never breaks and the mechanism is basically indestructible. You know incase you are an engineer and you hate pens.
Yes, Pentel is amazing! However, for me it's the black Energel pens that are the shit. They may not look fancy and won't get you the 'I look damn smart with this stylish pen' looks, but write fantastic.

Wow sir - I'm blown away at the quality of your audio and video. Keep at it and I'm sure your channel will take off!
Enjoy Mount Rainier! Maybe i'm biased growing up seeing it everyday but I think it's the most beautiful place on earth.
That Field Notes cover is such a thoughtful gift.
Amazing list.
Great video !
