I just found this video, and I have to say I like your list. I like how everyone has a different oppinion on his favorite SK book. I am not so well read in SK (I've read only 8 books) but he is allready my favorite writer. The Stand is my favorite book of all time, and It and Carrie are probably also in my top 10. I didn't like Myseri as much as you but I've read it in 2 days and it was a real page-turner for me too :)

This was fun to watch! One of the greatest things about King's books is the fact that one's "Top Ten" will always change. Even after you've read EVERYTHING, and you think you've finally nailed down your solid "Top Ten" list, once you start re-reading his stuff, those 10 slots will change yet again. I've been reading King's work for 40 years and I still can't decide what my favorite "Top Ten" are, LOL.
Great video! I started reading Stephen King in 2020 and it's the best decision I made that year. I think I've read 11 works by now. MY favorite for sure is 11/22/63 and Pet Sematary. I still need to get to his more popular books like It, The Shinning and Salem's Lot.
Love your top 10 SK books Here’s my top 10 from most favorite to least favorite: 1- the Dark Tower series (there aren’t much words how to describe my love for this series, it’s amazing, it’s the best masterpiece Stephen King ever wrote, and the best book from the series is the Gunslinger, and of course I hate the movie) 2- Salem’s Lot (one of Stephen King’s truly bests, it’s the most scariest book ever written) 3- the Shining (my very first SK book and got hooked to Stephen King since, loved it) 4- Misery (amazing book with a super creepy atmosphere) 5- the Institute (I prefer old Stephen Stephen books, but this was amazing and mind blowing) 6- Doctor Sleep (loved it, one of the best sequels ever) 7- the Stand (wow, he did a super job at this one and Randall Flagg became my all time favorite SK villain) 8- Pet Sematary (a Stephen King classic, it’s so great but also scary at some points) 9- Green Mile (a prison drama, I cried at the ending, amazing book) 10- the Eyes of the Dragon (a superb fantasy novel, loved it, Randall Flagg did a great job as the villain)
Hey there, new viewer here. Great video and reviews. Think you will love Revival - VERY gothic! Bumped into this video. EXCELLENT. My dad was literally THE world expert on SK for about two decades (not a joke; he wrote over a dozen books on King), so I grew up around horror and general and King's writing specifically. I love hearing your enthusiasm, and your reasons and analysis are well-reasoned and impressive. Though I will fight you to the death over Firestarter being better than Misery. I actually think Firestarter is a masterful work, and am surprised how often people denigrate it (probably because they're thinking of the travesty of an 80s movie version). But MISERY IS BETTER. Seriously, though, great job. Keep it up! And, heck, if you ever want to have an author on to chat about King, just let me know. Oops - Just realized: That last might sound weird if you don't know me from Adam. Have you seen the Shining mini series? Fun fact about that movie, King adapted for TV himself. He bought a mas market copy of his own book, read a page, types it as script, ripped out the page, and moved on.

I would rank It as his best (I have never seen either of the modern movie adaptions, and read the book long before they were even concepted). But yeah, totally impressed with the video. Have to say though, I am surprised Needful Things doesn't Make The Cut for you. That's certainly my favourite in terms of the beginning, which I think is SK at his best (the first chapter when he is introducing all of the characters).

Mr. Mercedes 2. Salem’s Lot 1. The Stand - not only my favorite King book, but perhaps my favorite fiction book in general. I’m glad you enjoyed Firestarter so much. I did NOT. We have very different tastes: I wasn’t a huge fan of Joyland, and I don’t think Mr Mercedes even comes close to King’s best work, even though it definitely has some substance. I’m also not a fan of Cujo.
The reason I love Mr. Mercedes so much was I thought that Brady was one of the best villains King has written. I really loved to hate him. He really made the book for me. There are a lot of people that don’t care for Cujo because they think there’s a lot of backstory with the two different families that are unnecessary, but I felt that those back stories provided a commentary on the notion of justice: getting what we deserve. The mechanics family wind up getting the endings they deserve based upon their character. This is juxtaposed to the main family Who is endings don’t match what some people feel they deserve. The father and son, which deserved a happy ending did not and the mother who perhaps should not have deserved a happy ending, got one in the sense that she lived. I understand why someone young like you would not care for Joyland. It’s whole premise and appeal is nostalgia. When you are old like me, you appreciate books that reflect on nostalgia and coming of age stories. LOL
@@otherworldsthanthese Other than the ending, which fell a little flat and eye rolley to me, I thought Revival was great. Give Duma a try. It is a bit slow for the build up, but really good overall
I hated the institute my top books of his so far 10. Under the dome 9.the long walk 8 sleeping beauties 7 the gunslinger 6. The dark half 5.eyes of the dragon 4. The wastelands 3. The stand 2. Insomnia 1. The talisman
The shining film does not sway fr the book. The ending is changed and there are no hedge animals (good thing), but everything that is in the shining film is in the last third of the book, including word for word dialogue. The difference is the book concentrates on addiction etc, the film the scenes in the hotel.
I’ve been getting into Stephen King lately. I just finished my 10th King book so this is my top ten…So far. 10. The Langoliers (Movie was better) 9. Shawshank Redemption 8. Gerald’s Game 7. The Green Mile 6. The Shining 5. Pet Sematary 4. Thinner 3. It 2. Cell 1. Misery (His best work imo)
Can someone send me a link from where I can buy these Stephen king editions? All of my Stephen King books are very bland and stale, these look so nice and colorful.
On Abortion in Insomnia: King usually puts a bit of his political views in every book, when Insomnia came out there were huge debates about Abortion and its legality in the United States. It was probably written around the time Bill Clinton was first elected President and abortion was a hot button topic during that presidential election.
King says in one of his interviews that he loves to write things that are emotionally moving/"hot" so if you feel all of your emotions called to the surface, he's accomplished his goal. 😁 I also recommend The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red by Joyce Reardon. It's a companion to the miniseries and I couldn't put it down. ❤️
First of all I am a huge Stephen King fan BUT I really want to speak up on something that bothers me a lot. I actually think that its very problematic to support a person with everything theyre doing just because you love some of their work. If you ask for my opinion, yes he is a bit of a coward. So many of his characters are obviously written as gay (for example Eddie Kaspbrak, but I could name many more), but never actually stated as homosexual - like just why. One sentence could change a lot and would give LGBT+ people that little bit of diversity they want to see. I really cant blame the society of the time most of his novels were written in for this „only subtext gay writing“, because he obviously wasnt scared of readers reactions when it came to writing other sexual stuff. I could really name you so many other characters he did this with, but I want to concentrate on Eddie, because he is one of the most well known. When he dies there is a moment where its pretty obvious that he wants to tell another male character, that hes in love with him, but instead of just letting him do this and give the gay community something official, he just lets him die before hes able to end his outing sentence. That really made me burst of anger. I would love hearing your opinion on this subject! Absolutely loved your video and looking forward to support you in the future :D
King has never been too diverse of an author, and when he does have characters of minority groups, he doesn’t do it too well. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I don’t find his lack of diversity too much of a problem, and you could definitely argue that he has harmful representation, and he often uses “token characters”. I personally think though, that King is such a fantastic writer, that it doesn’t matter too much. I get so absorbed into his books that I don’t massively notice any problematical parts.
I think he was also very hesitant to directly label his characters as gay, just because of the time period and his audience. But his novella Elevation has a lesbian couple, and they are some of the main characters, so he’s learning that it’s ok to have gay characters and be able to say that they are gay, and people won’t care :)
I need to add something. Book publishers before 2010 were not a big fan of gay charaters. So if he had made one of his characters officially gay, the book simply would not have been published. That being said, he could have made some of his characters in his new books more diverse. Or he could have told the film makers of the new IT movie, to make Eddie gay.

@@otherworldsthanthese Other than the ending, which fell a little flat and eye rolley to me, I thought Revival was great. Give Duma a try. It is a bit slow for the build up, but really good overall
Gonna watch your review of The Institute now 😂😂
It is a Great book though 😎👍🏻
Ps: I thought Insomnia was Good
aghhh that’s such an old video!!
I hated the institute my top books of his so far 10. Under the dome 9.the long walk 8 sleeping beauties 7 the gunslinger 6. The dark half 5.eyes of the dragon 4. The wastelands 3. The stand 2. Insomnia 1. The talisman
I hated Sleeping Beauties! Why did you hate The Institute??
@@otherworldsthanthese for some reason I just couldn't get into it for there are some of kings work I can get in and some I can't 😅😳🧐😉
Which other authors books do you read
There are so many other authors I love, but my favourite equal to Stephen King is Haruki Murakami 😁
10. The Langoliers (Movie was better)
9. Shawshank Redemption
8. Gerald’s Game
7. The Green Mile
6. The Shining
5. Pet Sematary
4. Thinner
3. It
2. Cell
1. Misery (His best work imo)
No one has ever convinced me to read Stephen King like you did. Going to start with Misery.
Brilliant starting point! Best of luck :)
I am very excited for Stephen Kings book 🤪
He has two confirmed to come out this year, I have low expectations for Later but I have really high hopes for Billy Summers!
@@otherworldsthanthese I have the exact same expectations!
Where did you get those stephen king book covers from? I can't find them anywhere
Which ones? I have a huge mix :)
@@otherworldsthanthese the ones right behind you in the video with the different colors
@@donrohrbaughiii6367 they’re Hodder paperbacks that were printed in 2007 and you can only find second-hand :)
@@otherworldsthanthese cool, I wish I had those copies.
Great video, and I'm surprised that I watched til the end
thanks for watching :)
my favorite book is misery!!!
I don’t agree but I still loved the video
What didn’t you agree with?
Where would the stand rank? It's in most people's top ten
I rated The Stand 5 stars, but I don’t like it nearly as much as the rest of the community does. It would definitely be in my top 20 though
Can someone send me a link from where I can buy these Stephen king editions? All of my Stephen King books are very bland and stale, these look so nice and colorful.
I get the majority of them online from UK websites 👍
On Abortion in Insomnia: King usually puts a bit of his political views in every book, when Insomnia came out there were huge debates about Abortion and its legality in the United States. It was probably written around the time Bill Clinton was first elected President and abortion was a hot button topic during that presidential election.
Haha it sounded like you were saying you love insomnia 🤣
I love your unusual opinion and accent. I think you are British.
AHHHHH!!!!!
I completely forgot that this video was scheduled to come out today 😂
All things serve the King...even though, in fact, all things serve the Beam.
Ayyayayyayaya
I love the dark tower too. It changed my life too.
King says in one of his interviews that he loves to write things that are emotionally moving/"hot" so if you feel all of your emotions called to the surface, he's accomplished his goal. 😁
I also recommend The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red by Joyce Reardon. It's a companion to the miniseries and I couldn't put it down. ❤️
King wrote it under that pseudonym.
Top 10 without The Stand?
Damn kid
Ah. Watch my ranking of all of King’s novels to see where The Stand falls on my list :)
