My grandfather was supposed to be on the plane that hit the towers. But he, as usual was late. My mom thought he was dead, until she got the call. Him telling her, that as usual, he was late. She cried. And laughed. And told him to never stop being late.
I thought the bus crashed so when the story took that sharp turn I was stunned and had head to toe goosebumps until the end! Great story and great story telling as well. Thank you for being a brat! :-)
I can relate. My best friend was going to go to the Arianna concert in Manchester but an hour before, I has a breakdown and at the minute before her train to Manchester came, she turned around and comes to mine and looks after me, she comforts me and stays the night. We go to sleep early after watching Twilight and we wake up to a mess. Her Twitter was full of millions of tweets asking if she was alive. We eventually found out what had happened. We where in shock, she stayed for 2 days straight after that, we didn't talk we just watched the news and we watched girly movies, at one point we just sat there in silence and then broke out crying. We later found out where the man stood, we looked at the ticket she had and she had the ticket closest to the man. After that moment we saw that on the news about where he stood, we looked at each other eyes full of tears, lips quivering. We cried in each others arms and she whispered in my ear "Thank the heavens you are depressed, you saved my life and know we can make new lives. Thank you for taking this path, it will get better I know. Thank you for being depressed," I can still hear her whisper that into my ear. We're best friends and we still can't look at that train to Manchester because we both know if she got on that train to the concert she would have died.
For anyone who was young when 9/11 happened, this hits you hard. You know EXACTLY where you were when it happened. No matter how many years go by, you still tear up over what happened. You realized in that moment, that there are "bad guys" out there that want to hurt innocent people they never met before.
My mom was driving once and she came across a train track. There were no lights or anything, so she figured she could go. But as she started moving the car, she felt a strong feeling that my great grandmother was telling her to stop. So she stopped her car, and a few seconds later a train went rushing by. It's insane.
I always trust my gut, one time in the 8th grade we were having a field trip to a hockey stadium, my mom paid 25 dollars for me to go, but the day of the field trip, I just had this gut feeling that I shouldn’t go, so I convinced my mom that I was sick and she let me stay home, later that night, I turn the tv on, the hockey stadium that I was supposed to go had caught fire after a fire work accident, no one was seriously hurt, but that could’ve saved my life. Now I always go with my gut
Yes, I know exactly where I was when 9/11 happened.Nobody could forget that.I wanted to go home but our boss wouldn't let anyone go,couldn't believe it. I went to the office to listen about it on the radio & they said to go back to my station.I took my keys & went to my car & listened for 30 min. & when I came back in(after I called my husband) they WERE going to say something but the look on my face told them they better NOT! I said "my Country is under attack, anything else?" Nothing was ever said!
I forgot. Well, I was four, but anywho. Just imagine, though, that is the feeling people around the world live with DAILY because of what the USA has done. 9/11 was terrible, but we should all be ashamed that our actions led to it, not pity ourselves and seek vengeance. 9/11 is a fraction of the pain we deserved. Oh, thank all the Gods Karma isn't real.
I had no clue this was about the 9/11 attack.. I’m so glad you saved him! My dad worked there, he died in the attack when the first plane hit the building.
I remember exactly where I was on that day, even though I live in Jamaica. I remember having breakfast watching rags to riches then all of a sudden they showed a plane going into the tower, at first I was mad, because I thought it was another show, but then I realised it was cnn live feed. I remember seeing people running and screaming and tears just started to flow, that's when I came to the realisation that man kind is most vile. I was 19.
My dad took her friend bowling one night when he was a teen. She was going to commit suicide that night. She didn't do it my dad had no i sea. He saved her life by being a good friend
I gasped out loud when she said we are under attack at first i thought a school shooting but then I realised. I was 3 at the time the attack happened being born in the Netherlands I was nowhere near it luckily. Unfortunately my parents still died 5 years later for totally unrelated reasons. And I wish so badly I could turn back time to warn them, ask them questions or atleast speak with them one last time. It's weird to think how the smallest things can have such great impacts on life.
I thought for sure the bus she missed was going to crash and her dad was going to thank her for being a brat then. Nope. I'm trying so hard not to cry right now.
That just shows, to go with your gut. Follow the feeling that, even if you don't know it yet, it might just save a life. Wow, that whole thing really is moving and...it made me say...I love you...to everyone I know... I called my best friend and told him how much I love him and that if I protect him he should protect me..and I just broke down in tears..he didn't even question it..he just said 'Okay, I will'
I love this story so much. it gives me so much joy and reminds me of how crazy life can be and how things really do happen for a reason and how the universe has a way of making things happen. Anyways, I had to come back and watch it a second time.
The Ranger I never said every reason in life leads to a good thing. In this case, this woman got to have her father around. But sure, people do die in meaningless ways and it effects people and it's horrible. But those tragedies and the families it effects, they learn something from it and we change from it. So no matter what, things happen for a reason. Because of this 9/11 tragedy, we are now even more careful and have protected our country even more. All I was saying that everything happens for a reason, good or bad. It's just life.
The 'That Moment' series has laid waste to me, over and over again. You think: 'This is a cool story about someone's life.' and then the overarching juxtaposition of their life, and our lives, hits. The one about The Pulse attack and a Dad's comment to his son makes me ugly cry every time I watch it. This one devastates for a different set of reasons, but they all have this moment where our shared humanity and our specific experience smash together in a way that was unforeseen and often devastating. This is EXACTLY what I love Soul Pancake for, humanity, in all its untidiness and divisiveness, bound up in what makes us all alike - the human heart. Thank you for sharing your story and please tell your Dad he's got a lot of folks with him in their hearts. (And his Brat of a daughter too.)
Marie Juana I agree. Giving people the power to cause this much devastation truly is mystifying to me. But hey, at least one person got lucky out of the 3000 killed!
Whenever I see something that seems normal-“I won’t cry”...moments later, a single tear streams down my face. That story was by far, the most fortunate turn of events that could have ever happened.
Commander Peridot here's why: you dont have to see it in person to be sad for those killed and those effected. When they tell their 9/11 story it feels more real.
My sister was born only one year after that fateful day. While most people are grieving we are having a birthday party and it wasn’t until just a few years ago that I understood why people were so upset at me for laughing and having fun on that day. My mom was in dc she worked at a elders home. She saw the smoke, and she was responsible for taking car of patients that were in the hospital at her elderly home. They needed the beds at the hospital for the 9/11 victims. Every year she tells us that story. And every year we have a lesson on 9/11 every year when we have a chance we visit the memorial in PA when we have a chance. To all the victims and their families, you are in my heart.
I’ve watched this video like five times now and I cry every time. It’s such an amazing story and it proves how humans know deep down that something bad will happen if they don’t do something else. Thank you so much and I will still probably watch this story fifty more times and I still will cry. Thank you ❤️❤️
Well I wasn't born back then but my mum was 6 months pregnant with me and she told me she remembers that her college came down the stairs and told her to come with him because sth crashed into the twin towers (at first they thought it was a really small plain). And everyone stopped working and listened to radio/watched TV. And saw it unfold. Since we live in Germany I couldn't imagine the terror Americans must have felt.
My dad used to work in one of the towers. He worked in the second tower that was hit. Thankfully, nothing happened to him, and I’m thankful he’s alive.
I know how you feel. Whenever something sad is said my first instinct is to laugh. It’s the same when the atmosphere is sad or a funeral or someone is sad, I immediately just laugh or smile and I feel terrible!!!
This gives me chills! I remember that day in 4th grade very well and the repetitive news cast that early morning. That morning and the morning/day it snowed in the Central Valley of California are the most indelibly clear morning memories I have as a kid. Things were just off, both times. But in very different ways. I missed the snow day and class or school photo album of that day b/c no one answered at school to know if open...b/c everyone was out in the snow apparently.
Depending on school districts, her birthday can determine when she started school. Or, she could've skipped grades. Either way, it's within range, nothing wrong here.
My dad also had an 8:30 meeting on the north tower and he canceled it so he could go to the hospital and see me being born two weeks early I thank god every day for being born early and having my dad in my life
I love how you can see that she has had the entire moment imprinted in her head. She could visualise and see the whole entire scene playing out as she describes it.
From the thumbnail I really thought this was going to be a parody video à la College Humor so I was very confused as the video went on.. Glad her father's ok.
9/11 was one of the scariest times for my mom’s family. They were all in England and she was in NJ. They could not get any calls through. They had no idea if we were okay.
1 story out of millions... including in Myanmar, Iraq, London, etc. Let's be grateful if we've never had to go through something like this...and those who incite and carry out such things...may they go through the worst...
Damn, these coincidental stories are amazing. My mom was pregnant with me and I was due almost on September 4th, luckily however, I was a stubborn fetus and didn’t get out until after 9/11 happened. My mom worked on the 90-somethingth floor and with an expecting baby or tired body, she wouldn’t have gotten out. My friend’s father was also late that day to work, which saved his life also. And if he wasn’t safe that day, my friend wouldn’t be born. Yeah...they can’t talk about the events easily, but they’re thankful for the coincidences that saved their lives.
I was working nights, so I got woken to the news by my significant other who was sent home from work. We spent the day nearly silent in front of the TV. This seems to be a weird recurring theme in my life: waking up to news that very dramatically, and very suddenly changed my world. (A close friend died when I was in high school, and my mom woke me with the news... stuff like that.) 9/11 is the epitome of that old saying, "life can change on a dime." I feel bad for everyone born after that... To not remember BEFORE 9/11 seems like having no living memory of sanity.
My grandma was on a plane to JFK when 9/11 happened ... I was so worried about her but luckily she was fine. The plane re-routed to Halifax where she had to stay in a gymnasium with other passengers for a few days. She said all the volunteers treated them like royalty and took such good care of them. But so many ungrateful people were pissed and complained that they couldn't go home, she couldn't believe they acted like that when people just lost their lives.
It seems so profound that many people, including some of the biggest celebs/bands today happened to have meetings/things /gigs happening around the site. Some of these people were supposed to get there, but they didn't because of some external circumstance. And they are still alive today. And yet, so many people died that day. That's...something profound.
I actually have a really similar story. My aunts father who lives in Florida was visiting New York for his job interview in the north tower on that tragic day. Him and two of his buddies were there early for they’re meeting and went to get breakfast at a cafe a couple of floors down from where they’re meeting was. While they were there he spilt coffee over his suit. He knew if he went in a stained suit it wouldn’t go well. So he went to a shop across the street to get a knee suit and while he was there the tower was hit and both of his co-workers were killed and he is still alive today. It’s amazing how god works in so many different ways. 😢
My mum woke up in the middle of the night to feed an eight day old me, and turned on the TV just in time to watch the 2nd plane fly into the 2nd tower live.
my dad was on an airforce base watching the attack on the tiny screens in the break room/cafeteria. My mom was with me (only 2 years old at the time.) and she was desperately trying to call my dad to see what was going on but all the lines were full... she was in a full blown panic. I think everyone who understood what was going on.. was.
i was only 6 when 9/11 happened. we lived in new york and my dad often was down in the city for meetings, he happened to be in a different state that week thank goodness. rip to all of those who we lost on that dreadful day we will never forget. ❤️
My grandfather was supposed to be on the plane that hit the towers. But he, as usual was late. My mom thought he was dead, until she got the call. Him telling her, that as usual, he was late. She cried. And laughed. And told him to never stop being late.
This wasn’t the direction that I thought this would be going but omg my heart!!
I thought the bus crashed so when the story took that sharp turn I was stunned and had head to toe goosebumps until the end! Great story and great story telling as well. Thank you for being a brat! :-)
Casstastic 2014 I thought the same thjg
me too i thought the bus she was gonna go on crashed
Casstastic 2014 same, when she said the twin towers I was like woah
Me too
Me too
This was amazing. I'm so glad that he was late!
but imagine if she made him late to work and he had to stay there for extra time then 9 11 happened omg
I can relate. Were you or any of your family affected by the attack? Directly I mean.
Where were you during 9/11?
Where were you when they built the ladder to heaven?

Bit inappropriate to show off when someones telling a touching story. Go stunt on another video
I think she meant “Bawling” as in crying really hard.
tbh its ok to lighten the mood. chill. i was crying to but its ok to crack a joke
I thought for sure the bus she missed was going to crash and her dad was going to thank her for being a brat then. Nope. I'm trying so hard not to cry right now.

Yeah, definitely. It is.

soulpancake you should make more videos on this theme...
I never cry at anything, my emotions are locked away in a bullet proof safe, but this really got me.
People need to trust their guts often than ignoring them. In that, you can save life and your life also.
Okay, why am I crying...
Watching this for about the 10th time on 9/11/2023. Never forget.

What a happy coincidence
There is no such thing as coincidences.
yes there is...
That gut feeling. That feeling, “No you have to be driven into school today.” Oh my God. Has so much more meaning at the end of the video.
I can't stop crying and Idk why. I was just a few months old when 9/11 happened but it always gets to me :(
Commander Peridot here's why: you dont have to see it in person to be sad for those killed and those effected. When they tell their 9/11 story it feels more real.

I love this story, I’ve heard it many times. This story always brings tears to my eyes. ❤️
This hit me.
Everything happens for a reason, I'm glad her father was able to survive it. ❤
I saw this on Facebook first, and just watched a part of it again and it still has me shook.
I have seen this several times before and I still get chills and cry every time I see it!
i found this last year and it really struck a string in my heart because i think about it all the time
My sister was born only one year after that fateful day. WOW! One of the story that i will NEVER Forget.
... she is so strong.. that she can talk about this! She's not balling, she can handle it. I respect her so much..
I cried so much. Thank you for sharing her story and it was beautiful.

My cousin is a firefighter for New Jersey and he’s never called in sick in his life, but on 9/11 he called in sick and was spared.
How can anyone watch this without crying.
David Bentley like this
I’m so happy you had that feeling in your gut and your dad was late. Also darn you ninjas cutting onions
This made this Canadian cry. God bless America!
I love stories like this, they are so heart warming. I started crying
I was in tears. Very incredible story btw.
My brother was supposed to be in one of the towers during the attack for a job interview. Cancelled the night before.
Love you.
I'm crying YOU AND YOUR DAD ARE WARRIORS
My dad used to work in one of the towers. He worked in the second tower that was hit. Thankfully, nothing happened to him, and I’m thankful he’s alive.

So nobody’s gonna say anything about her being 16 as a senior?
Depending on school districts, her birthday can determine when she started school. Or, she could've skipped grades. Either way, it's within range, nothing wrong here.
jess_a_yo Of course there’s nothing wrong with it. I’m just saying it’s not very common.
I'm going to be 16 when I'm a senior. Because I skipped a grade I'm always a year younger than everyone in my grade.
I graduated high school at 15
Just means she skipped a grade. It was the beginning of the school year before most people's birthdays
I'm full on bawling right now. Not just a few tears, like, ugly crying
I’m not crying... I’m just... sweating out of my eyes..
Bless all those souls that lost their lives 17 years ago to this day....❤️🇺🇸
My dad also had an 8:30 meeting on the north tower and he canceled it so he could go to the hospital and see me being born two weeks early
I thank god every day for being born early and having my dad in my life
I'm just 11, I didn't cry, but this was freaking touching!! I feel butterflies in my stomach, OMG...
That's the most gripping story I've heard in a long time. What a thing to have happened
thanks so much for sharing this, it is just so amazing to hear how little miracles change and save lives.
This is so moving! I am in tears.
Wow, I have chills right now she's such an incredible story teller
I love how you can see that she has had the entire moment imprinted in her head. She could visualise and see the whole entire scene playing out as she describes it.

1 story out of millions... including in Myanmar, Iraq, London, etc. Let's be grateful if we've never had to go through something like this...and those who incite and carry out such things...may they go through the worst...
Wow I had shivers this entire video. Amazing story, amazing video.
Bad title... wasn’t a mistake she was trusting her gut.
Yeah...they can’t talk about the events easily, but they’re thankful for the coincidences that saved their lives.
i'm crying, so glad your dad was okay
oh my! what a heart wrenching story! thanks for sharing.
Cassidy Smith we have the same name
Saw this on facebook last night. Such a powerful video.
I watch this every year almost to pay respect and this hurts
This is so moving I am crying right now
My mum woke up in the middle of the night to feed an eight day old me, and turned on the TV just in time to watch the 2nd plane fly into the 2nd tower live.
I did not expect to cry but just did.
my dad was on an airforce base watching the attack on the tiny screens in the break room/cafeteria.
