Jesus didn’t find it difficult to condemn sin or call a spade a spade. He called religious leaders “whitewashed graves “ to their faces ! He wasn’t trying to please people by tickling their ears.

I grew up Anglican. It is no wonder that it is dying with leaders that give no direction because they are morally confused or just plain cowards. Take a stand, Mr Welby, one way or the other, you are busy collapsing your church.

Welby's job is to uphold the Faith and have the strength to defend it against increasing levels of disbelief and derision. He is not doing that well. He is more interested in trying not to offend anybody. This attitude goes a long way to explaining why the pews of the Church of England are now so empty.

It is naturally performed by every single animal in the animal kingdom including the human species and so is completely natural.
Homosexuality is a completely natural, normal and necessary instinct for the survival of every species. Homosexual partners cannot reproduce. This means that when the heterosexual parents of offspring die or abandon them, the homosexual partners take over the parenting for that offspring to create a healthy and happy upbringing for them just like the heterosexual couple would have.
This in turn results in the survival of these offspring that would have otherwise died without any parents and therefore increasing the survival rates of the whole species.
What happened when we condemned and banned homosexual relationships all together for over a thousand years? A surplus of orphans from deceased heterosexual parents with very poor upbringing as no other heterosexual, adoptive parents would take them in as they were too busy raising their own offspring. Since homosexuality was prohibited completely back then these children could not be raised by these couples and so would be left in orphanages with a very poor upbringing.

Here's what the apostle Paul said about 'Church unity': "It is good that there are divisions among you, so that those who are RIGHT can be clearly seen" (1Cor 11:19). Or, 'God's Word' translation: "Factions have to exist in order to make it clear who the genuine believers among you are."
Sure, there might be "factions" within that group in some sense, but in the context of that passage those factions were meeting together as a church for fellowship, and Paul was telling off those factions for not properly eating together when doing so.
Paul condemns heres in 1 timothy also its evidently clear who the true believers are they are the ones who hold to the clear biblical precepts and not just spurious interpretations. God is not a hypocrite nor should we ignore what he did in history before his son became flesh Both Jesus and The father destroyed sodom and gomorrah genesis 19 in Leviticus israelites are given the clear instructions not to lie with a man as one does with a woman Jesus himself says in matthew a man marries a woman no mention of men marrying men or women marrying women. For me it's simple God didn't create people for same sex. God did not ordain same sex marriage.

Identity is not defined by body. Identity is mind, heart and soul - the Father's realm. The body is part of the fallen world. It's not surprising body and mind can (and do) conflict.
God gave me a female mind, heart and soul.
The world gave me a male body.
The result is a building stress that leads to pain that leads to mental breakdowns that leads to death. I don't think God wants us to follow that path.

As a Christian it’s important to trust god has our best interest at heart when we hand our lives over to God we can find a lot of peace in how our lives have panned out.

We need to understand the difference between condemning the sin and condemning the sinner; we mustn’t condemn the sinner but the sin. If we don’t tell someone clearly - in love - that what they are doing is wrong and a sin, then WE will be held responsible. Read Ezekiel ch3 verses 16-21
When you read Leviticus 20:13 the Lord condemns the sinner. So what are you talking about.

Prior to his enthronement he stated that he did not have doubts about the church's policy in opposing same-sex marriages but remained "challenged as to how we respond to it". "You see gay relationships that are just stunning in the quality of the relationship", he said, adding that he had "particular friends where I recognise that and am deeply challenged by it".
The world has got a hold of Welby in a way he will not allow God to hold him!
We call this woke, where the opinion, if strong enough can be adopted, even by the ‘C of E. so that the church can find acceptance by the world! That is sin!
Welby has betrayed the countless martyred Christian’s including children for their stand on traditional but apostolic doctrine. A great shame has come to the C of E and to countless other ‘churches’ who have become woke too, in order to find worldly acceptance.
Welby was asked what he now thinks and would say of this situation, in his response he never quoted scripture directly but gave a new interpretation to the word of God. This is a radical shift in understanding apostolic teaching, by ‘altering’ clear biblical directives and must be utterly rejected. Welby is a liberal, make no mistake. The apostolic teaching of the church has rightly rejected this radical leftist woke culture as a way of cleansing the church.
It is simply impossible to misunderstand the written word for such an educated man. It is a wrathful folly to meddle with the word of God. Therefore Welby is fatally in gross error and adrift from the teachings of the apostles and is therefore not approved by God but condemned as is clear in Galatians. And Revelation!

Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God's justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

@@theeperson3764 so you are more righteous than God who made you. God is therefore ‘wrong’ according to your sense of right and wrong? Note, God is known to be immutable, therefore all that God said in the OT is True also in the NT, and therefore remains true now, even though relativism would state otherwise.
You are in mortal danger, for God could take you now, maybe later and the the judgment! Repent of your sin, get right with God and perhaps He will have mercy and pardon you.

Justin gets it right. If he had taken a stance on sexuality, people would have taken it as reason to ignore everything else he said - which was stuff far better grounded in the Gospel than pro/anti LGBT.
All of us are sinners, full stop. But the Church as the Body of Christ is made up of those who have come to a place in their lives where they recognise their sinfulness, repent and receive the Holy Spirit. Then begins the process of transformation and sanctification.

Absolutely. I too am a sinner ...Saved by Grace. Each time I sin I need to repent and ask for forgiveness. I look to being Sanctified by the Holy Spirit
"Go and sin no more" is pretty explicit. Love is the desire for the good of another, and that means looking to their eternal destiny.

A certain King Henry VIII had nuptual problems and a resulting tiff with the Pope; when the Pope did not allow King Henry VIII to progress from living in bigamy and to go off to get married to his lover with whom he was already having sex, King Henry VIII caused the Act of Supremacy around year 1534. In order to impose the Church of England, King Henry VIII resulted in the death of 50000 innocent people, including innocent faithful catholic priests. The Church of England is rotten through-and-through and faces oblivion within the next 20 years as Sunday congregations fall precipitously in numbers. Yes Jesus teaches a lot about love, yet also teaches very clearly about the sin and calls it by name, without any camouflage. Besides, he helps the sinners to be free when they come to Him and ask for that. And the Bible when naming those who will not inherit the Kingdom of God, has also the homosexuals among them!

Surely, as the supposed chief teaching elder of the C of E, Justin Welby’s job is to give a lead to his flock on what is the clear teaching of scripture, to refute error, and to protect them against false teachers.
He calls the reformation a tragedy, that which brought the scriptures back to the people, and more than that the true gospel? He equates the organisational church then with the true invisible church.
To disagree well is not a scriptural imperative but we are urged to agree.

If we accept that all of human nature is somewhat tainted by sin and it's various manifestations, we know we need a saviour.
However once we proclaim that sin as a normal attribute of life and acceptable we are stating we don't need a saviour.

@@Capybarrrraaaa If Sin were a concept it might stay within the confines of the mind. However there is an outworking of our minds in what we do .....our deeds. Murder, slander, lies, covetnous, adultery, stealing and weird sexual stuff to name a few are all considered sinful acts.
There is therefore often a battle between what we know we ought to do and what we know we ought not to do. If we say sin dosen't exist, to justify our sinning we open a door to anarchy. To say that sin does exist is to admit that we need in someway to overcome it, for the good of ourselves and others.

Trying to please everyone yet by playing both sides you end up pleasing no one. The Bible is the truth and is very clear. In such troubling times there needs to be strong leadership.
But Archbishop Welby, "setting the ideal and applying the ideal pastorally" is not the point. The point is twisting the ideal to fit the culture and how that can in any way, shape, or form be considered correct and good within the Christian church.
It is not the churches job to be judgemental, but to teach truth as in Jesus.

The word is 'tenets', not 'tenants'.
Accepting people is loving the sinner not the sin . What he is doing to day is embrace the sin. We are all sinners and the church accepts us all same there is no difference between the sin we commit and than that of a thief or an adulterer. In our hearts we would have been guilty, but accepting the sinner is not the same as accepting / affirming and celebrating the sinful act.
I think Justin Welby needs to read the bible. Sin is sin, and its a sin. Romans 1 is all you need. When you truly repent you turn away from your sins, you dont continue in them. No condemnation, just TRUTH. You are not being a light to the world, you are turning to the world for your doctrine......sad

Sadly, in my view, the archbishop seems quite confused regarding the fundamental Biblical meaning of unity in God, and so, regarding its implications on all aspects of societal life...
We can't keep leadership in the church with divergent disposition on church doctrine.
Many years on, I would ask the Bishop if his desired fruit (church unity) has materialized based upon the changes made under his guiding hand. If not, time to ask the Holy Spirit if perhaps he allowed himself to be misled.

However a friend told me she met converts to Christianity in Thailand who were ladyboys through actions their own parents had encouraged for monetary purposes, so there are modern science scenarios which were not even around in bible times which need to be taken account of. I have been asked by people in the church if I am “gay affirming” towards those who are LGBT and seeking acceptance. Same sex relationships appear to be a result of abandoning relationship with God according to Romans 1:26-27 so I cannot “affirm” them. The book “I am learning to love” by Martin Hallet was helpful in understanding Christians with a homosexual orientation.

Well, at one of the General Synods he gave the stance against homosexuality and etc... (I think. I'm not sure). And when the voting was done, the votes for lgbt was not enough, so it was not passed.
Yes, Jesus said to stop sinning, He also said to love one another. So, the Church shouldn't send people away for sinning, because then there would be no one in the Church, for ALL have sinned. But, rather, we should welcome them in, as Jesus did. But, Jesus didn't say 'Come as you are and stay as you are', He said 'come as you are, and change who you are' which is what the Church should say, instead of 'change who you are or don't come.'
Maybe it's because nobody has a good reason to think the Bible is 'the word of God'. Hanging onto it will just drive you further from God.

If Queen Elizabeth II had recognized the mistakes that Henry VIII made in separating England from the true Church of Christ, if she had converted to Catholicism to restore true religion in the country during her 68 years of reign, the United Kingdom would go back to the times of glory and would become a fully confessional Catholic nation. It makes no sense for a monarch to declare himself supreme head of the Church, it is the monarch's duty to protect the holy Catholic Church that Jesus Christ founded over Saint Peter.
