my first metroid was Metroid 2: return of samus on gameboy, its one of my favourite game series from nintendo for sure and i love watching playthroughs of them esp first time ones
I tried playing the original NES Metroid on NSO a few years ago but I didn't want to use a walkthrough or an online map so I drew a crude one myself. I got pretty far but I just stopped playing for one reason or another. It was pretty fun.
This is arguably the best inroduction you could give someone to Metroid - My nephew couldn't stand the original, but loved Zero Mission. Super Metroid was too big and confusing when he tried it, but Zero Mission had him appreciating the gameplay style enough to go back to Super Metroid.
I'll just say after playing the NES game Air Fortress, Metroid's escape sequences couldn't intimidate me any more XD (That game was also hard as balls, as you might expect from the NES era. It did make use of varying backgrounds though so it was a little bit harder to get lost due to repetitive looking rooms... you still could very much get lost, though)
Jared! I just replayed this game a few months ago for the first time since it released too! So much great stuff going on in your channel right now. Loving the FF6-T and now this!
On the note of childhood game scares I clearly remember the time we rented Lost Vikings and when the bomb went off and the screen turned red and started counting down I froze up then started crying xD so I feel your pain Jerd xD
I love this game so much I have 2 copies. One save file for every ending. Sadly the hardest one I never got (hard mode sub 15%). But mastering all the insane shinespark items was such a thrill.
You should take a look at the fan game Metroid Planets, an enhanced version of the NES Metroid. It’s got a mode called Enigma with a room editor, and it’ll stitch together a whole map out of user-made rooms.
I'm with you, can't get into the original Metroid at all, feels like you get by in it more on blind luck than any deductive reasoning. Hope this series goes all the way.
Awesome, I love this game. Such a good remake. I dont think its A hot take. I think metroid was revolutionary when it came out, but out of a lot of the Nes games, I'd still go back and play originals of Metroid is not one if it has this game now
Zero mission is an odd one. It's definitely better than the original but is the weirdest to backtrack to collect all the missing items. Not to mention the fiddly shinespark puzzles. You thought they were tricky in Dread? Try doing it with samus being more stiff on a tiny GBA screen
Original NES Metroid's Long Beam was optional and not taking it is actually a speedrun strat to increase DPS Yes, you can beat the eye centipede boss thing in one encounter, I think it takes four missiles You can get rid of those flies that get in the way of your morphball into the missile tank near the end of the video, simply destroy all their hives in one go. Also you don't have to bombjump to bomb it, I don't know why you're making it so hard on yourself... And oh god, you're proceeding without getting a very useful powerup...
Your opinion on the original Metroid really isn’t that controversial, don’t worry. It’s very well respected but I think the general consensus is that it hasn’t aged well. My controversial opinion is that while Zero Mission is a nice upgrade over the original, I find it a bit overrated if only because Super Metroid was already basically a half-remake of Metroid 1 and Zero Mission just kinda feels like a diet, less good version of that game. Also I _hate_ the Zero Suit section.
I feel like not liking NES Metroid is a fairly lukewarm take at best, it has NOT aged well in the slightest if I'm honest. There's 0 reason to go back to the NES when Zero Mission is better in every way shape and form.
"Who watches a Metroid let's play at 3 in the morning?”
Me: OH BOY 3 AM
*Heck Yeah!! It's 5pm 🇯🇵 and just got back from work! Time for my favorite Bounty Hunter!* 💙
SPOILER/HINT: If you destroy all 3 nests in that room that almost killed you, they never respawn (including disappearing from adjacent rooms).
my first metroid was Metroid 2: return of samus on gameboy, its one of my favourite game series from nintendo for sure and i love watching playthroughs of them esp first time ones
"Used to be scared of a Metroid game"
*Proceeds to get scared by a another Metroid game
:D probably my favorite Metroid
Also glad we get content at an hour im awake xD
It's kind of funny that he was going to say his early memory from Metroid was getting stressed and scared, just like he did at that moment.
“Who watches Projared at three in the morning?!?”
Me: “Oh boy 3:00AM!”

I think the original Metroid is due to a new remake!
Zero Mission improved so much on it!
Would love to see a new one ✨️
Imagine metroid 1-4 remade Dread Style. And all on switch. (The port of Seamus returns on switch with 60 FPS would be nice)
This was my first Metroid game. It made me go back and play super Metroid and fusion back then. It is still my favorite and is very nostalgic.
On the note of childhood game scares I clearly remember the time we rented Lost Vikings and when the bomb went off and the screen turned red and started counting down I froze up then started crying xD so I feel your pain Jerd xD
I'm down for some late night Jared
I love this game so much I have 2 copies. One save file for every ending. Sadly the hardest one I never got (hard mode sub 15%). But mastering all the insane shinespark items was such a thrill.
Played the original and played most of the 2d games but never this one, glad to see you playing it.
I got this game on my birthday. Beat it in the same day but played many more times.
I actually just finished my first play through of this game and I 100% it too. 9/10 would definitely play again
On one hand, damn did you upload early.
On the other, well shit..now I have to play Zero Mission soon (still in the midst of playing Fusion)
Jerd you should start using the 24 hour clock. Then you won't accidently upload things at 3 am
You should go back to where you fight that centipede. If you kill it, you get an upgrade.
That game came out when I was in 8th grade, I played it and loved it
O hell yes I LOVE THIS GAME MAN I still play this game to this day along with fusion I am a huge Metroid fan.
Finally! My favorite Metroid game!

Random ass time for a new video to drop but I am a night shifter so I am all for it!
He may have gotten his a.m. and p.m. messed up in his update schedule.
4:42 it's not lava, it's acid!
Literally just beat this the other day, such a good game.
One of my favs at 3 a m let's go Jared
I'm with you, can't get into the original Metroid at all, feels like you get by in it more on blind luck than any deductive reasoning. Hope this series goes all the way.
Haven't had a gameboy since Color, so I've never seen this and look forward to seeing it.
This is my first time ever seeing this game. Sweet!
hell yeah, this is my favourite metroid :3
Is the ALttP Roguelike coming back?
played this so many times and yet I'd never managed to finished
Awesome, I love this game. Such a good remake. I dont think its A hot take. I think metroid was revolutionary when it came out, but out of a lot of the Nes games, I'd still go back and play originals of Metroid is not one if it has this game now
Zero Mission is fun, but I loved OG as well.
Love this game. Especially the added content.
Oh shit, I don't think I ever played this one! I only played Metroid Fusion where she's got the blue suit. Damn, might have to get a copy of this.
You have to now
Metroid Fusion is the linear experience.
Metroid Zero Mission is the nonlinear experience.
Both are amazing games.
Zero mission is an odd one. It's definitely better than the original but is the weirdest to backtrack to collect all the missing items. Not to mention the fiddly shinespark puzzles. You thought they were tricky in Dread? Try doing it with samus being more stiff on a tiny GBA screen
so excited for this playthrough, the best Metroid game IMO!
I haven't seen this one before but always loved metroid!
still my favorite Metroid game
21:55 Jared taking NNN real seriously
Jared what are you doing uploading at 3 in the morning?
Original NES Metroid's Long Beam was optional and not taking it is actually a speedrun strat to increase DPS

Oh gosh goood ol Metroid ZM
Thank you for uploading! :)
I remember when I had this... It was all I played.
Your opinion on the original Metroid really isn’t that controversial, don’t worry. It’s very well respected but I think the general consensus is that it hasn’t aged well.

Yippee post work upload! And it's Metroid!
Literally just beat Zero Mission last month on the switch emulator 😂
great game, beautiful pixels
Jump-scared by a worm.😂
Metroid is the goat
8:49 LMAO
Finaly. Just a normal game play through.
Yooo love Zero Mission
Colour saturation seems a little off/dim. Also looks like you're playing with an analogue stick? Or your display has high latency.
Rather late upload, but not a bad one
hey wait a sec... this is not your normal upload time?
3AM video????? Fuuuuuuuck yeeeeeeeah
Late night jeeeeeerd
Why did this drop at 2 a.m.
Goated game
can I 100% zero mission before he defeats Ridley?
Probably, since episodes of this drop every other day. It would take at least 2 weeks of videos with the same average video length
Hell yeah!!
I recently replayed this myself since I have it my Wii U. Tried to beat my old time and I did.
I feel like not liking NES Metroid is a fairly lukewarm take at best, it has NOT aged well in the slightest if I'm honest. There's 0 reason to go back to the NES when Zero Mission is better in every way shape and form.
Not complaining. But these irregular uploads are scarring me
3rd like woo
