    So got the InPen before I could get insulin. I set it up and pretended i was using so I could start using app. Just got insulin today. Will set up tomorrow. My usual pharmacy did not carry so had mail order from my Medicare insurance. All been working great. Along with my IPort I feel have all the benefits of a pump without being tethered to a pump. I also like to make my own decisions and it seems all the new pumps tell you what to do. Thanks for all of your help

    I work in pharmacy I know sometimes insurance will not have the cartridges as a preferred item. Have you ever run into that issue. Also if you insurance company changes your preferred insulin seems like it could be a problem. But then insurance companies and diabetes and the supplies always seem to cause headaches.

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  2 роки тому +1

      Usually, it’s a headache. I haven’t had any issue getting the cartridge on any of my insurance plans (I changed plan in 2022). It’s usually not on the formulary but it seems it’s only because it’s not sold as often.
      But yes, if you get switched from one insulin to another mid-year (not sure they can do that?) you’d have the wrong pen for the type of insulin, and you’d need a new pen

      Yes, I've turned into a hardcore InPen fan. You don't have to bring your phone to use the pen, but it will only be able to send your doses to the app when you're within Bluetooth range

      Your Dexcom readings will show up in your InPen app with a 2-hour delay, so not in real-time

    do you change needle and prime with every dose? also, i've noticed when bolusing a 1/2 unit only, sometimes even with just a 1 unit dose, nothing comes out...maybe just drops but no stream of insulin (like with an actual syringe)...even though it's been primed. I called and was told they really don't work with just 1/2 unit and often won't with 1 unit? ugh.

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I prime before every injection. Sometimes only air will come out, so you must confirm that insulin is flowing

      I use Dexcom and have tried the Libre sensors (see my experience here ua-cam.com/play/PLP1_U1UAmvW63vmif-nPtLUIMys5E8DmY.html) and the Medtronic sensor. I’ve had the best result with Dexcom

    • @DiabetesStrong

      You can use the pen without the app. But without the app, you don’t get any of the functionalities such as the dosing calculator and dosing tracking

    Do you need a guardian sensor 3 for the InPen?

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  Рік тому

      No, you don't need to wear a sensor. The only way to get real-time sensor data in the pen is to use the Medtronic sensor. I use a Dexcom CGM and my CGM data only enters the pen 2 hours after. So for me, it's only for analytics

    We where taught to always round to the nearest half but the in pen always rounds down if the numbers come out to 1.99 it rounds down to 1.5 is there a way to fix this?

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  Рік тому +1

      I know, I find that a little annoying as well. I think it’s for safety. I usually look at the calculation (you can see it if you click the blue suggested dose bar) and do my own rounding

    • @DiabetesStrong

      The pen will automatically record your doses. If you want to use the bolus calculator you have to enter your blood sugar, carbs, or both

    What do you do if it gets unpaired not showing up no data from Dexcom coming in no data from Apple health . At end of day it says last seen 7 am

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  9 місяців тому

      I haven’t had that issue but sounds like you have to reconnect the pen and set it up again. I’ve had issues with my Bluetooth not connecting the pen. Then I usually open the Bluetooth settings and click on the pen to reconnect

    Realistically I'm not going to count carbs, my eating habits are just too chaotic and I "graze" a lot. I currently use Novolog & Toujeo injector pens and I have enough Novolog stored in the fridge for several more months. But I do have issues forgetting if I took my insulin or not. I have the Dexcom G6 so record the dosage in the app, when I remember too. So the question is will the Inpen be of much use to me?
    I sometimes set a 4 hour timer on my Apple Watch to remind me about taking the next dose of Novolog. I have to be careful because I walk over 6 miles every afternoon and frequently get low alerts when doing this. I'm still playing with the Novolog dosage, I can take a max of 10 units and up to 50 per day total but I never get close to that. If it's been more than 4 hours since last dose of 10 I'll take 5 just prior to walking and that usually keeps me from getting too low. I also carry glucose pills when walking because I've gotten pretty low a few times, even seeing the G6 bottom out at 40 a few times. More recently I haven't been below the mid 50's and that's been pretty rare.

      I’m a huge fan of the InPen but if you have a large insulin pen stash already built up I would look into getting an insulin pen cap instead. I haven’t tried any of them but know there are a few available. Bigfoot Biomedical got one FDA approved last year and there are some non-approved versions available as well. Try googling “insulin smart cap”

      @@DiabetesStrong thanks, all I can find is the one limited to the Freestyle Libre 2, not Dexcom G6. But I'll likely switch to the Libre 2 in May when my G6 runs out of sensors. The cost is only about 1/3 of Dexcom and the Blucon add on gives it about the same capabilities. I previously used the Libre 14 until I found out my insurance at the time would pay 100% for CGM ordered via a DME Provider. Now I'm on a Medicare Group Advantage PPO and got a serious case of sticker shock for the G6.

      If you use Novolog, get the Echo Pen. It doesn't need to be connected to a phone app. It shows how much and when your last dose was given. I love It, but my insurance co. won't let me get Novolog!

      @Darryl R Maybe, you should not take any insulin before ur walks ( I believe this is the reason for u dropping low) You have long walks...So, ur suger levels will always drop lower. Try it...I bet it will work for you

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  6 місяців тому

      Yes, the pen in itself won't expire however the smart functionality will after a year as that is the battery's lifetime. The smart functionality allows the pen to send your doses directly to the app. So you can still continue to use the pen after the 1 year

    • @DiabetesStrong
      @DiabetesStrong  11 місяців тому

      It's not automated, if that's what you're asking. It records when you do your injections and it has the bolus calculator that you find in most insulin pumps, but you have to manually do the injections
