  • Does America have allotments like UK is a question I've asked myself. I've seen lots of videos on you tube but never seen anything like we have here..the old " make do and mend" style. Here we use everything and anything including an old bath for water (or pond) hope you enjoy it please like share comment and subscribe and don't forget to press the 🔔#listentolee

We have community gardens in the U.S. but they are not as big and we rarely have our own sheds! Some gardens have lots of repurposed items and are very quirky. Thank you for all your videos. I’m learning a lot from them!

Please turn this allotment into a lovely Secret Garden for those of us in the USA, Here in Detroit Michigan USA, there is such anxiety and sadness. Need someone to weed Mother Nature’s Gardens and make them amazing again. Show us how it can be done. Everything that you do for others turns out so well. Now is the time to do it for yourself. Stay safe and healthy and God Bless.

we have very few places to grow our own gardens here in Sacramento Ca. I do love watching you work at your allotment. It would be grand if we could have one. We used to have a lovely tiny back garden, but our neighbor planted an oak tree that took away our sunshine, so now it is all dead, We lost our concord grape vine , three gardenia bushes , a fig tree, and all my flowers. Oh and the lawn which is all mud now . I do still have my elk horn fern that hangs on the chain link fence. My husband has got some planters with house plants back there because it gets very low light. Well enough of my waffling on , thank you for my time watching you and all your videos.

Always good to see what your allotment is up to. Reminds me of my younger days and my grandparents taught me how to grow veggies in their gardens. To make a bit of money I'd grow cucumbers and deliver them, by bicycle, to the local hospital across town. Keep growing Lee!!

Your allotments are alot like what's referred to as community gardens here in the U.S. often in more urban areas. Lots of people have vegetable gardens on their own properties by their homes in suburbia. My dad always had a big veg garden with corn, carrots, beets, onions, peas, green beans with rhubarb and strawberries on the side. America is a huge place with lots of variety, so just about anything you can imagine goes on. My mom had absolutely beautiful flower beds too and my favorite were the peonies. Unfortunately, I now live in an apartment with no garden space but I sure do wish I could have an 'allotment ' like yours. I would be in it everyday. Thanks so much for your posts.

I like the creativity in your allotment garden. I live near woods that contain hoards of squirrels, hence I only grow flowers. 😁. I'm too old for the battle! I am grateful that I have my beds to escape to during this time. The dogwood trees are in full bloom and worthy of trying my hand at watercolors to capture. Your videos are great and I hope you stay well and keep up the great work!

About the mulch. The idea is to cut down the weeds and save you some time. You don't want any nitrogen there anyway Lee. The less there is ,the less weeds you will have. I've seen people whinging about green mulch quite a bit. Think they are missing the point . Keep doing it Mr , it's all fine and better than buying chemicals.

Here in America we don’t have many allotments. In big cities like New York, Chicago to named a few in certain neighborhoods people took the insensitive and used an empty lot and grow vegetables . If you help you can collect. In big city a store to buy fruits and vegetables are scarce at times. One of the reason I enjoyed so much English programs, is the fact that the outdoor seems so important to you. People speaks of their gardens with pride. I am in Florida. It seems that an empty lot deserved a house. Not to much nature per say. We are blessed with our beaches but so little of nature paths. The soil is also terrible with a lot of sand, so raised beds are better. If one thing we are learning with all our shortages, is we need to be self sufficient. You inspired me to start doing more gardening this year. I am growing tomatoes 🍅, green peppers 🫑 and cucumber 🥒. I do have garlic (my French Canadian background demands it ). Let’s hope the hurricane saison will be mild this year. Sorry to carry on like this but thank you to have brought gardening 🧑‍🌾 as one of my hobbies again.

In 'Merica, it is possible to rent a small plot like this for growing vegetables, depending on where you live. But it isn't very common. Most homeowners who choose to grow vegetables, have enough space in their own "yard", as we say. Yes, the "garden" to us is the area reserved for growing vegetables. I suspect the typical American house sits on more land than in the UK, plus the idea of creating a miniature formal garden around your house doesn't really exist. I think it would be hard times to be a "gardener" over here--what we have instead are guys driving lawn mowers with 60"+ mower decks...all day long.
