Very informative video Steve. I have the ED12 and ED15. I find both great but different. Way longer finish in the 15.
Im glad i saw this as El Dorado 12, 15, and 21 were a once a year purchase for me here in Ohio, US, something i always looked forward to, and i always loved the 12, BUT i havent bought any El Dorado since 2021 because its not avaiabale here in Ohio and with the cost of shipping, inflation etc i moved on to other rums. Ive really missed having them as part of my summer rum rotation and this coming year after watching this i plan to order 2/3 bottles of the 15yr since its still about $55 a bottle and forego the 12 and also the 21yr as its now running about $150 a bottle instead of $120. The 12yr is still around $35 here in the US but if its dropped in taste/quality i cant see buying it. Thanks for this video!!
Thanks for the reminder. I finished a bottle of the 12 and need to pick up another. I haven't tried the 15 yet but I should.
El dorado 12 year old or ron santiago de cuba 11 what ismyour pick
Can you advice which is the best Demerara Rum in your humble opinion - for cocktails not neat?
I have and use ed12, here it's about $32-34. I use it in cocktails, Mai Tai, usually. But I do really like lemon Hart, both 151 and 1804, also like Hamilton 86.
if you add a little simple syrup to the 12, does it taste like the old rum?
I just don't get why brands sneakily change their products and pass them off as unchanged although ED have altered the seal colour. Why couldn't they have kept the old ED12 with the new version? I feel these sneaky changes in general will loose customers because they've lost their trust. Anyway, thanks for another informative video Steve. 👏
Hello Steve! What d'ya think of The Malicon rum(if it's come youre way) There is plenty of that stuff in Moscow, so I need advice.
Never heard of it, sorry
@@StevetheBarmanRumReviews Many advised me to try that. Moreover they have a very large line up of different ages from white to premium rums. As far as know it's an italian company but the rum itself is made in Panama at the same factory where the Demon's Share rums are produced. If i buy that one, i'll let you know on my experience. Cheers mate!
I taste dark chocolate , dates , slight cigar box , brown sugar , slight banana foam sweets
Had the cask strength PM single still as a sample at a local rum bar over the weekend. Quite nice but probably not worth almost 2.5 times the cost of a bottle of ED15.
Just bought a bottle of ED12 today, and ended up highly disappointed. Tastes more like a bourbon than a rum to me. I am impressed with how smooth it is, and would wholeheartedly recommend it to my whiskey loving friends as a way to get into rums. But, I had to swear off hard liquor years ago because of how sick I made myself on all the cheap whiskey I drank during my hard partying days. And that flavor was the last thing I wanted to taste again -- especially in a rum that I paid nearly $70 USD for, and had to take a trip to the next State over to get my hands onto.
In Romania it costs 24 pounds. I like the taste of El Dorado 12, it has the aroma of plums, some caramel and dark chocolate. I really like the finish, it's dry, it leaves your mouth dry. It's a serious rum, if you know what you want from it and you know what you're drinking, I think it's wonderful. It also matters how much and how you drink it. I drink about 2 or 3 times a week, no more than 50 ml. I'm always trying new varieties, Plantation, Dictador, etc... Good luck!
Where do you found it in Romania for 24 pounds ??? In supermarket is like 60-65 pounds one bottle 😂😂
@@valentinmihainica42 In Poland for 35

Howdy Steve! Honestly you got me stunned to know that El. 12 ain't what it used to be((( That's a shame!😭
Thank you
😊😊
I noticed in a lot of your videos you keep mentioning your discord community, but I don't see it listed anywhere.
I closed it a year ago as it attracted too many Rum Geeks and put off people simply wanting to get in to Rum.
The new formulation has a lot of the sugar removed but tastes flatter.
Think I’m inclined to agree to be honest.
Hello Steve! My version of the 15 has 43% ABV.(2022 release). Got it for 65 bucks (the cheapest on the Market unfortunately maybe down to the sanctions)😢
Cheers mate

I prefer the less sweet version.
me too! 🤝
I bought a 1litre of 12yr old at duty free for $6400 Guyanese dollars around £24 pounds
Video starts at like the 11 minute mark
Lols. No. Obviously the Video starts at 00:00. 11 mins and you’ve missed all the interesting stuff! 🫣😂
lot better now without the added sugar
now I had the 15 I won't go back to the 12
Same here
Where I live (BC Canada) the 15 is close to 60% more expensive than the 12. I enjoy the 12 but haven't tried the 15....yet!
@@everybodydothebartman7413 Jesus it's less then 20 difference in UK but from the 15 to 21 it's a big jump in price like 40 odd more than the 15
The 12 is actually boring. I would probably get a different brand or probably the 15
I get that woody varnish on the nose, but at the end of each sniff I also get a light brown sugar.
That heavier emphasis on the barrel aging notes make this a great intro to quality rum for Americans who thought they were exclusively bourbon fans and whose rum experience might have been more or less limited to the Captain Morgan or Bacardi silver they had in college. I have the black seal version and it's almost like a handoff from bourbon into the world of good rum.
I'm not quite ashamed to say that I was one of these, but it does bum me out the years I could have spend exploring the upper shelves of the rum sections of our stateside liquor stores 😁
