That it is not too sweet is one of its strong points. I am glad they were not appeasing stereotypical expectations. This is good rum. If you want more sweet or candy flavors, this is not the one for you.

Bought a bottle a month ago and it is so delicious. Haven't had a sip of it this year tho, since I'm trying to have less alcohol now, but will have a glass tomorrow before going to a friends birthday party!

I would have put Havana Club seleccion de maestro at the top. I would like to see you testing agricol rums and include there the Clement and Mhoba rum.

Look forward to the sampling of the Havana club seleccion de maestro. I would also add the Ron Barcelo Gran anejo and finish up with Plantation vintage Fiji 19y.

Zacapa 23 costs 80/85€ in Italy; Hampden 8yo max 75€. I don't think Hampden is overpriced at all

Yo can't have those tropical fruits from El Dorado rums...because they are 100% Guyana...not a Navy Rum like Black Tot. Simple to understand : Navy Rum = blend of British Traditionnal molasses rms : TDL, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, sometimes Grenada.

Never tried it I’ve had the Appleton’s 12 many many times I’m also a whisky drinker so I tend to drink rum neat or in a old fashioned will I be disappointed?

Hey, Steve. Very informative episode here on the Admiral Rodney rums. I happened across a 2018 Reddit comment (on the "rum" subreddit) saying: the Princessa is a 5-10 year blend ( *mostly 5 year* ) with a bit of port cask, the Royal Oak is a 7-12 year blend ( *mostly 7 & 9 year* ), and the Formidable is a 9-12 year blend ( *mostly 12 year* ).

For me I need a some strong high ester funk in a maitai but that's not all I want in a maitai. I want the rum(s) to power through. I want some age. I want some fruit as well. I want body. Smith and Cross forms part of the answer but it is not the answer.

A little late, but it's currently $19.99 at my grocery store here in Michigan. I still sway Goslings when a dark blended is called for.

Ok, what we like is complete opposite, I prefer woody, oak, smoky, tobacco, roasted and dark chocolate notes. And I absolutely hate fruity, floral, candy and herbal notes.

It doesn't look dark enough for 12 years age in such a hot and humid climate like India. I doubt their claim- even the 94% of angel share

How would you compare this one to Zapaca 23? Diplomatico Rum Reserva Exclusiva used to be my favorite but I liked Zapaca 23 because even if the sweetness level was close to the same based on my palate, I felt Zacapa 23 had a longer finish and more complex.
