A revealing portrait of Sylvie Guillem, one of the greatest dancers of our time. Hand-picked by Rudolph Nureyev at the age of 19, she was the youngest ever 'etoile', the highest-ranking female dancer at the Paris Opera Ballet and later, the star of the Royal Ballet here in London.

Too bad she didnt pass her talents onto to her children. It would have been nice.

@@andreazima Because they need a considerable amount of time to recover after each pregnancy and because they are never home to raise their children.
Generally speaking it is better for artists not to have children because being an artist is like having ...autism! Artists introspect constantly themselves. Their performance, their ideas, their creations, their inspiration, they are looking constantly inside them in order to transform whatever inspires them from the outside.
You can not be a good parent in such a state of mind. I'm a visual artist myself and when I get into my creative mode I become the most unsociable person not because I'm a bad person but because I'm in my creative mode. Those who are close to me know and understand this and that is the reason why they prefer to stay away...lol

I have the feeling that no matter what Sylvie does, even if she peels the carrots, she puts all her heart in it. THAT makes her a star.

You are strong keep at it. Remember there are SO MANY people around you facing very, very difficult time emotionally and financially but they still make through. Life gets better, life improves and we have smiles and happiness again. It's okay, that is part of life so don't get too depressed. Take it with a smile and a positive approach, and everything in life passes. Your strenght and happiness lies with you , love yourself, care for yourself, be kind and always make yourself happy and smiling. Best of luck and best will happen forever, lots of love to you. ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺.

can't believe the narrator called her cynical because Silvia does not want to bring a child into this current world situation - meanwhile she is supporting SeaShepard and helping on boats on the Senegal coastline report on the state of illegal fishing of foreigners in their waters. The cynicism lies with the narration.

Having a child because it’s EXPECTED is the worst reason. She’s an intelligent woman who knows what she wants. If a man chooses not to have a family no one accuses him of being cynical or incomplete!

In watching her dance in the late 80s, I see that she was the greatest influence for the great ones of today! She forced them all to take it a notch higher, esp the ballerinas in the company where she dances presently. She set the barre for them all over the world! She did great things for ballet!

she is dedicating her life for the audience... omg, the last piece by Mats Ek! and the last moment. when she is going to black and white from coloured, and picturelike, from motion. I think i understodd that...
and the figures, the children walking past her... and when she said this piece was inspired by her...
i think i got it now. i love Sylvie Guillem... You cannot not love her...

She is indeed incomparable. You also get a rare chance to see Sylvie on stage both in modern and classical repertory if you are in Athens around Christmas. She will be dancing "Sacred Monsters" (December 19th to December 23rd) and then "Marguerite et Armand" with Massimo Murru (December 25th to December 30th) at Megaron Mousikis in Athens (Athens Megaron Concert Hall).

Force de la nature ou tout simplement marginal? Wish they could drop names like Nureyev as if they had anything to do with her talent! Elle a réussi parce qu'elle a osé se dissocier des autres et qu'elle avait un agenda qui ne correspondait pas avec la norme en général!
