Steiner tossing out the trope of the "Knight who either is ignorant to magic" or "thinks magic is dumb" out the window. Him calling Vivi with the title of master and holding him in the highest of regards is such good characterization and makes me happy to see their interactions.
With how antagonistic he is to the main character and how dismissive he is to the princess' wants, his admiration of Vivi is the one thing that makes him tolerable in the opening act of the game. It's very necessary for audience engagement if he's not a COMPETE wet blanket the whole time.
Not only does it prove that he’s a good person at heart, but it helps clarify his duties. First to the throne, then to the people of Alexandria. He doesn’t see Vivi as anything other than another, if capable, citizen. A child, even! He’s done nothing wrong, and Steiner absolutely knows that. Vivi makes everything better by existing
Since Penny asked for Vodhead's opinion on the guaranteed steal option: Considering that Penny's time is limited, having auto steal will free up some of that time for her to experience the game.
I've seen two streams with autosteal on, one turned on halfway through, and it didn't diminish the experience one bit. It's still a fun challenge to keep Zidane alive when there's multiple things, even.
@@FaelumbreProject I wish it was guaranteed steal with bosses, then still a 100% steal rate with normal enemies but it'd be a very low chance for the items with high sell value (pinions). I love the mod but some things went from convenient to broken enough that I had to avoid taking action.
So when you played Metroid Prime, we'd had rumors for YEARS of a remake that never materialized, yet as soon as you beat the game, the remake shadow dropped. We've been hearing FFIX remake rumors for YEARS.... and now you're playing it. Can't wait for that remake to shadow drop once you finish!

I'll only offer one general piece of advice: have Zidane steal anything that ain't nailed down, especially with bosses! That's where you'll get the real good stuff!

Ah Final Fantasy IX. An absolute classic. FF7 is fantastic but I gotta admit FF9 is my personal favourite of the PS1 trilogy. The characters, the music, the story. The only downside is how slow it can be, but other than that it's an excellent game and I'm genuinely happy you're finally playing it.
I've been really loving watching your experiences while playing through the Final Fantasy franchise! FF9 in particular is one of my all time favorites, so I'm really excited to see you play it! I hope you have fun! :D
yippee wahoo! im a recent final fantasy inductee, and have thus so far only played 7, 8 and like half of 15, so im super excited to see what 9 has to offer! all im familiar with is Vivi, and i think that's enough. heres to a good time!
Loving this playthrough. Everytime you laugh its honestly adorable and great to hear. Hope you enjoy the ff9 journey! It's my favorite ever FF and hands crossed the rumored remake is real!
It's great to see you play this game, it's one of my favorites. Really like the voice acting too! Just one thing to comment, maybe pay attention more often to the abilities you can equip from the Ability menu, and what you learn from your gear. Support Abilities are your passive skills, and there's some pretty useful ones. Something to keep in mind. As for the card game... the game kind of intentionally obfuscates how it works for some reason, and there's a lot of RNG involved in it too. A quick explanation of your card stats is that they represent, from left to right: attack power, type (P for Physical, M for Magical, X for fleXible and A for Assault), physical defense and magical defense. Type defines which of the opposing card's defense stats is used for damage calculation (X attacks the lowest defense, A attacks the lowest stat in the card which can include the attack power stat). The stats however are more like ranges within which RNG happens, which means battling an opponent card with lower defense than your attack isn't always a guaranteed win, which kind of sucks. It's pretty disappointing to me, I feel the card game could've been excellent with a few changes. But oh well.
I won’t lie I was not expecting to see my first final fantasy game being played here and I still absolutely adore this game more than 7 obviously nostalgia is a huge factor but I did play 7 around the same time I just enjoyed 9 more than 7 and even in more recent years when I replayed 7 and 9 (I bean 7 but not 9) I was more surprised by the plot twists in 9 then in 7. But regardless my point is I am really happy to see one of my first RPGs and probably my second most beloved RPGs next to Chrono trigger and the xenoblade chronicles franchise being played now.
Oh my goddd, Penny playing not only my favorite Final Fantasy game, but my favorite game of all time!!! 😍 This game was one of the first games ever (along with FF7) I played as a child and it changed my life. Only FF6 has ever came close to make me feel how I played this game as a child, it being my 2nd favorite game. Anyways, welcome to the journey, hope you enjoy!
Seeing this VOD after months of Final Fantasy 7, AND a Sonic playthrough with Mar, is like a "Tony Hawk pogging at the X-Games" gif moment. Like damn, Snapcube fans are eating GOOD this year.
i somehow had the precognition to start playing IX like a year ago, before we knew they were gonna even slightly reference it in XIV before Dawntrail, but i fell off due to other games catching my attention. hyped for this playthrough so it can jog my memory and i can go back and finish the game myself (i'm probably less than 10 hours out from the ending lol), and even more hyped to see how you enjoy the game!!!
Dunno if you'll see this before your next FF9 stream, but I thought I should just let you know: if your characters feel squishy or the game feels super hard, it's actually because of one major reason: encounter rates. In the original PSX release, FF9 had a very VERY frequent encounter rate. The PC release and subsequent console releases, on the other hand, went the complete opposite direction and severely REDUCED the encounter rates, which means by the time you get to exploring in a later part of the game, you'll be underleveled. To put this into perspective, when you cleared Evil Forest, you had no encounters aside from the required ones. In the original, you'd have probably seen around 6 or 7 random encounters.
I started this game years ago but unfortunately dropped it somewhere on disc 3, i've finally picked it back up and am adoring it even more than i remembered so i'm really excited for you to experience it!
I’ve never played FFIX but I really want to someday, so I’m gonna stay away for now for spoilers sake. After I do though, there’s a non-zero chance I’ll be thrown right back here to watch it then cause your stuff is always so entertaining to watch

I’m chill with guaranteed steal option for pacing reasons. Better to get to the points of the game you want to see rather than spend up to ten minutes just waiting for the steal command to work
I'm new to this game but I've heard some real horror stories about the steal RNG rates, so guaranteed steal is definitely reasonable. It's a shame the mod doesn't just have an option to up the rates to... Still not 100% guaranteed/free, but actually attainable in a good few attempts (or rates that get exponentially larger the more times you fail?) But I think auto steal is an alright compromise!!
Just as a warning: this game has the worst droprates in any game ever. Steal items go into slots that are Common, Rare, and Very Rare. If an item is under the 'Very Rare' slot, you have a 1 in 256 chance of stealing that item. THAT IS A 0.4% CHANCE, it sucks so bad. That's the reason the Moguri Mod gives you that option. Also you can make offensive and healing spells target all enemies/allies by pressing the shoulder buttons.
As much as I love FF9, the steal rate is a pain. I usually try to steal everything from bosses and without any cheats I think I've usually spent over an hour trying to get some of the very rare steals.
Names that start with T................. Tickle me Elmo Edit: also i really like when RPGS do the equipment skill thing cause it encourages you to use equipment to learn skills. I know Tales of Vesperia does it too
Hi Penny, Vodhead here, No 100% Steal does not devalue the run, You can manipulate the Steal Rates via the Spirit Stat and some skills later on *But* Ultimately I feel it's both a better VoD and Steam Experince to watch and to play if you don't have to worry about the RNG
The auto-steal mod wouldn't devalue the game for me... but there is like... something balanced around how many times you use the Steal action? That would be messed up a little by that.
there are several 1/256 steals, so if you DO want to engage with the stealing mechanic, the mod will make it reasonable. but the game isn't balanced around expecting you to hit all those rare steals or anything, so you can also just, like, not try to exhaust every boss of their inventory and be totally fine

Since Penny asked for Vodhead's opinion on the guaranteed steal option: Considering that Penny's time is limited, having auto steal will free up some of that time for her to experience the game.
Agreed, and it could add hours to the playthrough at the end of the day, given how frustrating some of the steals are.
I've seen two streams with autosteal on, one turned on halfway through, and it didn't diminish the experience one bit. It's still a fun challenge to keep Zidane alive when there's multiple things, even.
