Maybe you wanna learn some neat skills, even if the applications are limited. Maybe it's a tradition you're trying to preserve, or a form of meditation you're engaged with. Then the practice itself is the point.
@raixira27 it's still not effective. The sticks are too light to have the effect of a flail and they miss the kinetic link that most weapons have. Flails were mostly used on horseback because you don't want the kinetic link in that scenario.

If you hit somebody in the head with these, just a regular swing, no skill involved, you would easily have a concussion or a fractured skull. A couple shots could definitely kill someone, if you hit them in the right part of the head. And I don't mean wielding them with skill, I mean just swinging them like anyone could. Once I was doing a forward thrust from under the armpit with a heavier wooden pair. The chain broke, one of the sticks went flying & it made a hole in the plasterboard wall that kind of resembled a hole from a shotgun shell! I remember having to get out the putty & patch that hole LOL

In the end, unlike with guns or rotating chains/blades; the potential damage mostly depends upon the wielder.

Just that what she's doing here doesn't seem too far removed from performing arts (flair and choreography in presentation) or sport (wushu, gymnastics, or other martial arts). Granted, nunchucks are a pretty niche hobby and may never have its own category in arts and sports. It's nice to have hobbies we enjoy tho🙂
You can tell she's used to that specific weapon. As someone who's experienced it firsthand, it takes you quite some time to learn the exact range of your weapon and sometimes even maneuvering it's own weight efficiently. She's quite skilled.
