Hi, I like your channel giving me so much information but I’d like to know why so you use google hub and amazon hub since they are not local and privacy? Honestly i’m in the middle to choose what kind of automation i’d like to use for long term! thank you in advanced
That's a long and complex discussion, but there are some really good reasons to use a simple pre-created hub. Also, lots of the automation is moving local with Matter, so it's coming.
Matter protocal with Thread touter is the future standard, but it is not really ready for prime time yet. Maybe in a few years, when more device types and features are added. If you want to go local and private today, Home Assistant with Zigbee or/and Z-Wave controller and devices.
hi Brian , i have a switchbot ecosystem with (3 cameras, 2 hub mini, 2 bot and 6 bulb) and a homey pro 2023.i should go for switch to aqara ecosystem ? it's seems like more stable and future proof. What do you think? thanks
I’m struggling to decide if I should go with Aquara or Eufy for home door locks and cameras. I’m currently using nest and google products but getting rid of them as I feel Google isn’t supporting their Canadian customers, no bard.
Aqara has much better integrations with other platforms, and a very strong automation engine. Eufy is more about camera and video quality. No real integrations or automations. That's kinda the choice for me!
Good summary, thanks. Do you know if that Samsung map view will be coming to Smartthings app? Or even hopefully one day to Google Home app now Samsung and Google seem to be playing nicely together.
I found that my Home Depot Hubspace light switch was pretty good and the app was fine. But it wasn't locally controlled (i don't think) and the integration into Home Assistant was kind of a janky HACS integration that was reverse engineered and could break at anytime. Without reliable HA integration and no local control I didn't get anymore Hubspace devices.
Just don't buy any tvs because of the drm debacle...you can not view drm stations... Hubspace refuses to do matter/thread... Will the homey pro work locally when the Internet goes down??!
Ok I’m becoming Homey addicted after your recent update, I did buy Homey and it integrates with my Tesla, my Campervan with my Victron equipment picking up all the temps sensors and solar, running all my house timing and integration with Miss A is excellent and Philips Hue, unable to use smartting multipurpose sensors at the moment but may be me.
Nice to hear this! I can't wait to show what we can do with this system too. Some integrations could take a bit! So your sensor there might just be a while and isn't likely you.
Hey Brian, the Rabbit r1 seems cool, but I feel that at the rate AI is expanding, and with the recent release of Google Gemini, very soon, I think it may be outdated, as our devices will be able to do all that natively. Also, I don't know if you're planning to do a video, but its hard to know what Smart Doorbell to go with in 2024. So many options, Old classics like Nest, Solid releases like Aqara and now brand new ones, so would love to see another comparison video to help us know the best one
I want matter Robo vac to make an accurate map of your house for you instead of you having to do it yourself. The Robo vac scans the layout of your house the add it to home kit, amazon , or google home.
The rabbit device seems a novelty at first glance. Good for booking a quick uber or choosing a music track. But then if it's just a companion device, alongside my phone, I ask it to play music but I'm already wearing earphones linked to my phone, it's not gonna play out of those is it. So might as well just use Google assistant on my phone or watch to play it in the first place! For more complex things as shown in the launch video; booking a whole international trip etc, is anyone seriously going to rely on one sentence to book a trip worth thousands. Surely everyone would want to look through hotels and flights and make an informed decision and ensure they're getting a good deal. Also how would you pay for it, I bet this device won't play nicely with my Google pay info! Actually if they designed this same concept in a watch it might get more take up than another pocket sized device that looks like it was designed by Fisher Price! Anyway just my thoughts Brian, glad to hear you've ordered one and you can prove me wrong when it's brilliant!
3:33 The TV manufacturers are waaaay behind the curve on TV backlighting My neighbor had a Phillips TV like 30 years ago with built in synced backlight, anyone else remember ambilight? They should have developed a universal standard ARGB connection for TV backlighting years ago. They should have the sync box already be built into the TV'S and just have a 3 pin connector so you can just buy an LED strip and plug it in. Sync boxes cause problems and you can't get the backlight to sync with built-in sources. They could solve all that and simplify things by making a new standard and building either everything in including the backlight or just building in the sync box processing and have a 3 pin connector or maybe 2 of them (an extra one for power injection at the opposite end of the strip). They instead focused on other long dead gimmicks like curved screens and and 3D.
I have a xreal air 2 pro. After all the hype I was somehow disappointed. The portable big screen is nice, but don't buy it for the Virtual Desktop environment. The nebula software is just not there and the FOV not good for this use cae. It made me preorder the Visor of immersive 2days after 😅

LG SUCKS at anything smart. The Thin-Q. App is trash and the setup process to get Alexa set up was the most ridiculous and convoluted thing I have ever had to go through for any smart home product. And then in the end it still doesn't work at all, you can't even turn the TV on or off ,or mute it or adjust volume. Weirdly there is like one streaming app that allows you to pause with Alexa but besides that literally nothing else works LG should just give up on making their stuff smart and get rid of Thin-Q altogether because it's an out of control garbage fire. They need to dump web OS as well because it is also a garbage fire. Mute icon shows up when TV is not muted and vice versa. CEC is a crap shoot, sometimes my AVR switches on but 90% of the time doesn't. ARC is just as bad , my TV randomly reverts to TV speakers all the time for no reason at all , I set it to ARC and it alwat sets itself back to the TV speakers randomly for no reason. LG is the absolute WORST TV to buy if you have a smart home. The upscaling is also complete garbage on their TV's ,my C1 was rhe worst purchase I have ever made. Yep!
Another great "heads up" video. Thanks Brian!

I think you'll have better integrations between switchbot and homey, so not sure that's a great choice!
Can you make a video of how to backup all smart home devices in one hub?
THat's a hard one to make. It doesn't reaaaaaalllyyyy work that way.
@AutomateYourLife Okei, I'm just worried too loosing all my smart home stuff without a backup of some sort

@@AutomateYourLife thanks I appreciate the advice and the detail you put into your videos 🙂
So you will have to permanently maintain your tv switched ON to control your smart home?
Good news, you can have more than one controller
Thanks for the overview! CES got a little boring for a few years so nice to see some cool stuff coming.
More to come! Thanks!
Thanks Brian.
Thank you!
Great overview - thanks for the update!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Glad to hear the thread network is being unified.
Yeah that's a big deal!
I cannot seem to figure out how to update the Homey Pro for that Thread integration…I’m on version 10.2.1. Any tips?
I don't have any tips today! Been focused too much on this and one other video so I haven't been able to try it.
Wasn't Thread supposed to work that way when Matter was first released? I wonder what happened.
Not sure, to this day!
Good summary, thanks. Do you know if that Samsung map view will be coming to Smartthings app? Or even hopefully one day to Google Home app now Samsung and Google seem to be playing nicely together.
I would expect Map View to come to every interface eventually, but...no announcement yet!
