I’m still loving watching these, thank you for sharing. I’m still remembering my dad watching these and reminiscing about his RAF National Service experience, and laughing along to this…. Corporal Marsh DID exist!
0:45 Flt Lt Grant's use of the word "expediency" is of interest from an etymological standpoint. Cpl Marsh has interpreted the word to mean "with haste" - hence his response. This is in fact an obsolete and archaic meaning of the word. I would submit that the Officer meant the word to mean "as a matter of convenience", which I reckon explains the awkward pause after Marsh's response. Excellent piece of script writing and acting that!
Despite your apparent knowledge of the language you still manage to fluff your final sentence, which should read: That (best place for it) was excellent script writing and acting. (No need for an exclamation mark.)
10:50 That's a 1970's Beano, not one from 1955. I believe Biffo the Bear was still the cover star in the 50's, Dennis didn't feature on the cover until much later.
corporal marsh reminds me of my dad for disciplne,he were in forces peacetime, went right through ww11,disipline was disiplin, you dare not blink unlesyou were on a charge
Enjoyable and well constructed comedy, and with some excellent moments of touching and moving deeper meaning, such as when Lilley has to pray for Marsh to be forgiven. Very well written script. And not least it wears well and is very funny. Shame there's no equal these days!.
I admit to spending approx 7 months prison time in one of these places.. All though ' BAD '.. some of it was good to experience.. The place was called " Gaynes Hall '..and had become an open prison with 3 ' houses ' This programme bringing it all back.. If you have seen Shawshank Redemption.. where the Screw gives everyone a beer... Our little group did some Hay work for a local farmer... He also gave us beers... It really can happen ... Anyway... this is good series
IN THE BEANO COMIC THAT FIRST APPEARED ON 30 JUL1938, DENNIS THE MENACE FIRST APPEARED WITH ,< WITH HIS DOG GNASHER > IN THE 17 MARCH 1951 EDITION AND TOOK THE FRONT PAGE FROM BIFFO THE BEAR ON 14 SEPT 1974 !!!.
@@ToonandBBfan Although introduced in 1951, the duo didn't become the cover stars until 1974. Gnasher wasn't even introduced until 1968. In the Beano No. 1363, which came out on 31st August of that year.
Been watching over Christmas day & boxing day . Old Percy very rearly won always come off second best. My favourite part he looses strips and Puff house Richardson out ranks him sonny
Someone got their sums wrong here. For Marsh to have trained 144 flights at 8 weeks basic training each, it would have taken him about 23 years. And yet GSI is set in 1955. Only 10 years after WWII finished.
Marshes face when he sees the stripes...priceless.Sir Tony of Selby great actor...ty
Marsh's face ... (Did they not teach you the difference between possessive form and plural form at school?)
"I see you're a Sergeant now, Corporal" LMAO

All that and yet you totally failed to master the basics of English.
Great stuff, comedy like this is classic, they don’t make them like this anymore.

R.I.P. Tony Marsh.

Just finished watching Warship where Tony Selby appeared in an episode as a Pettty Officer, and now he finally meets Master At Arms Heron!
Just say you cleared in the exam, he'll lose his stripe quick enough!
Classic show

Would Dennis the Menace have been on the cover of the Beano in 1955?
Yes. Dennis the Menace first appeared in 1951
I thought it was Biffo the Bear back then on the Front page.

To whom is he giving the thumbs up? (Rearranged so that the preposition is not at the end where it doesn't bloody belong!)

They should bring back national service. It would sort this country right out. And sort out the wayward youth of this broken nation.
You really don't have a clue. Do you?
My father was in the Royal Ordinance Corp, he was offered tapes countless times but turned them down.
Of causehe did must been for spotting those Squadrons of Flying Pigs doing acrobatics
@lordeden2732 Foxtrot Oscars !
My dad was RAOC aswell, he done his National service in Egypt.
@@shep8851 ... he DID his National Service in Egypt.
140 flights, 8 weeks basic training = 1120 weeks = 22 years. I don't think that math's works!!
Your maths is wrong basic training in 1955 was 6 weeks not 8 weeks then it was 5 to 6 weeks trade training except medics training was longer
There would’ve been a continual turn over with new entrants arriving all the time.
Your maths doesn't need a fucking apostrophe so your English doesn't work either.
