Wouldn't putting ice in a bait bucket reduce the salinity of the water and kill the bait? I've heard of freezing a bottle or two of water and throwing that in the bucket. As the ice melts, the fresh water stays sealed in the bottle

Airstones and air pumps don't aerate the water. Their purpose is to agitate the surface which increases the amount of O2 that dissolves from the atmosphere to the water. I guess you could say the air stone / air pump indirectly aerate the water by providing the mechanism that aerates the water.
