I was 40 years old 30 years ago. Time goes by fast. Enjoy every second of it. Happy birthday Emily!
Me too and I was 40 when I did my 57. I sand blasted the trunk and firewall. I still have the car and it still looks great. Garages do that for you!👍
Thanks Mike!! We’re sure grateful for everyday we have 🥰
Hey guys everything looks beautiful you were right once you put paint on it shows it shows every single imperfection!!! But that's why they make bondo. Great Job guys. God Bless see you on the next one.
Me too 72.
Nice to see you two together forever.
Thanks for family orientation and heck ya on the murder kittens.
Teaching the kid well. Describing what it feels like and what she should expect helps take a lot of the fears out of learning something new.
The Kid is killing it. what a great aunt and uncle!
Take it from an old fat man , I've got almost 30yrs on ya .
Enjoy life , and do what makes you happy . Time is fleeting , great video , loved that y'all are including the kid . She'll look back with fond memories of the experience with y'all .
Even though the " Kid" is your niece, she acts like she is yours and Aaron's daughter. You all are great parents! As well as aunt and uncle! Refreshing to see the Kid is respectful, and the willingness to learn, and wants to do the work! And adds alot to you alls video. 😊
I absolutely love the car! I am 52 and when I was 10 I was Abel to help one of my uncle friends build a 57 Chevy he had pulled out of a river bed. So I got to help him sand and all kinds of stuff with the car. That was what helped me fall in love with cars. I helped build a 69 firebird. But when I grow up I am going to get a 69 Chevelle to build to have for my own. Thank you for what you do and am so proud of your niece for wanting to learn. That is awesome! ❤ And like I said I love the car! Keep up the great work
To hell with deadlines. Record what you do and post that. Even if it's lounging in the pool, drinking a sweet tea. 😊 Oh! Is Super kid going to do a build for her first car???
Happy Birthday. It's just nice seeing a youtuber actually strip and paint a old car instead of they pull it out of the weeds or trees and get it to run and move then say Patina and shove it back in the trees to finish rotting. I know it's not a popular opinion. I'm a 70's kid were you couldn't even enter a car in a car show if it was rusty and your hot rod was completed when the paint dried. Sorry if I upset anyone, it's not an opinion unless you express it.
That really is the best way to restore an old car. Keep the kids involved they need to know how to do this. That's what my dad did with us.. awesome job you guys on the right track..from Vancouver Canada.. GB 🙏
Look at the kid painting! So frickin cool! (BTW laughed put loud at 'bring back child labor.')
teaching kids to do these things, is so important, my daughter starting working on cars with me before 10 yrs old. now she manages an auto body shop.
Nice job on the 57, I have a 55 for many years my 1st High School car.Just a note as you both reflected on your age. My beloved oldest brother who will turn 87 in a few days.He told me recently with a smile our casing gets old but we are the same young at heart & inside all our lives...Glenn
I was born Dec 6 1957!! These cars hold a special place in my heart. Awesome job!!!! Great videos!!!!!!!! I was a USAF aircraft mechanic for 24 years. HAPPY B-DAY Emily!!!!!!!!!
Greetings from Malaysia… Suprised me that i can sit and watch this 1 hour video without noticing the time passed by. Great work by a great family. Eager to watch the next one…
Emily you speak the truth. I have had my '56 Buick for 38 years. It still isn't "done" and never will be. It is just more done than it was 38 years ago. I have been under, in and around every part of that car. So much so it is now a member of the family.
So nice to see the younger generation being taught how to use their hands! The world needs more of that! Thanks.
We agree!!!!
Y'all are such a cute family!! The family that sprays together stays together! lol I loved watching y'all!
Sure do appreciate it!!
By doing what you are doing you are learning, but you are also teaching everyone watching at the same time. I have tried to do some of the things that you have done with limited success, after watching you do the things that I have tried (wrapping your corvette) I retried wrapping mine and I came out much better and easier after learning how to do it watching you both. Thank you for all you do.
That is SUCH A GREAT COMMENT!!! That’s awesome! Thanks Robert 🙏🏼
Picking an honest and highly skilled body shop would probably take a lot more time and energy than jumping in and doing it yourself! If you follow your heart doors will open for you that are not available to others. It was also a very smart move to pay the price for a very clean and straight project car! You remain the Super Dynamic Duo + The Kid! Congrats!
Can attest - this is probably a year+ for most shops to be able to even get to!
You’re absolutely right!!!
Everyone that watches your show appreciates watching you build this car. I wish I had the patience.
Listen, Arod and Em, nobody is rushing yall at all. Yall take your time when yall have what you need to upload, then do that. Don't let anyone know rush yall. I, for one, appreciate the fact that yall includes us in your lives.
We sure appreciate that support!!
What a labor of love! Had my eyeballs hooked on this project from the beginning. So glad you are doing a total strip restore-this beauty deserves the best, from the best, and you are bringing it!❤
That's a big step forward, now the '57 is a white beauty!
Very happy you decided to strip it yourself, instead of dropping it somewhere. More videos, and more DIY!
It just dosen't take very long for Kid to get it going..major smarts !!
The Shorts are like snacks before the meal, they hold the hunger at bay. Plus the Shorts were funny and a lot of fun.
Love this!!!!
I am so excited when I see the kid in your videos! That is what America needs. More families loving to do things together! Great video you guys! And Happy birthday!❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
I hope y’all don’t mind some more comments about how awesome I think you are. Once again, I just love watching you guys, and this video really encapsulates the way I feel as well about doing things you’re passionate about and doing things you want to do regardless of what people want from you. Definitely, don’t rush the project on our account, I think I can speak for basically everyone when I say, we would definitely rather that you take your time, live in the moment, and enjoy every part of what you’re doing. We can wait for videos. I know you will, but keep being the awesome people you are, God bless.
We sure love and appreciate you!!! The support means soooo much!
@@flyingsparksgarage Happy belated birthday as well! im only about a year older, and boy are you right, still kids and still learning and making mistakes!
Having a big old smile on your face every time you turn around and look and see how beautiful it is after you've done all the hard work when you've done it and it's the satisfaction of looking at what you achieve and where it came from
this format and your production value is great. thank you.
We appreciate that!
This is a great build! The kid is either growing like a weed or I've been watching y'all longer than I thought.
I wish I had the opportunity to do stuff like this with my boys. You guys are giving the kid a fantastic experience
Happy belated birthday! I love how you guys teach and work with your niece. I have three grown children and they would not have become the fine adults they are today without the extra guidance of their Aunts and Uncles. You guys are helping to shape a wonderful young woman and should be proud.
So obvious that ‘The Kid’ has been training in the shop since she was much younger….she is acting and moving with a confidence much exceeding hear trips around the sun…so very fine, and will probably help her personal development through years to come…leading by example is a great feat.❤❤
Just found yall like the show. Amazing aunt and uncle she unbelievable she don't whine or cry about getting dirty. and absolutely not afraid to jump in and do what needs to be done. Keep it up.
Glad you’re here!!!
You guys seem happier now, and Aaron seems more involved with talking about what’s going on, the channel is evolved for the better, keep doing what you’re doing, and thanks for inspiring us all. ❤
We love hearing this, thank you so much for sharing and being here! 🥰
@@flyingsparksgarage oh my, I wasn’t expecting a reply from you. I just want you guys to know that I think you’re incredible, both of you. Thank you for making videos.
@@user-iv2tw2lz8k We sure appreciate the support and kindness, we’ve been through a lot the past couple of years that has been both the hardest and biggest learning experiences ever, so when people see a difference in us, it means a helluva lot! 🙏🏼
I think it is important that you show this...the level of work involved in paint and body. People know what it takes to do so many other tasks build a shed, swap a trans, you name it. When it comes to his kind of work the labor involved somehow gets forgotten, or never appreciated. Good metal work and paint takes a lot of time, a lot of labor. It isn't always fun, it is not glamorous, it is dirty, hard work...and if ya want a nice paint job there is no way around it. You guys are putting in the work...well done keep at it.
you know every inch of the car that will help your car come out the best and safest it can be
I was 40 18 years ago the funs just beginning also love the stuff with the kid 😊
My Saydee pup enjoys watching for cats in your videos :-)... y'all got a lot done in this video B-)
What a joy watching you all (y’all) do your work. Especially nice to see “the Kid” working with you. Happy birthday Emily! You both are very beautiful and talented. I am 76 so I could be your grandfather. Keep up the good work! God bless and keep you all!
I just like the way you show a possible issue or mistake. People are human stuff happens, you guys are awesome
Also watching y'all with the kid reminds me of helping my dad work on cars when I was a kid.
Im building my car one part at a time and slowly getting tools as i go. Im learning on my own to weld and do body work. More sense of pride I can say I did that on my own
What a great job. Love the patient you’ll had with the young girl. She will remember those moments. This car is going to be a treasure. Love the video. Oh Happy Birthday.
I can’t believe how rust free that car was! Definitely good bones and deserves the full restoration! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😄
It's really neat to see ya all doing it the right way, lots of work in it in the end you will have something you will be proud of and show us all what's involved
I'm 70 years old and a FORD man, but with all that white primer, I could see myself driving an all White 57 chevy!!
Congratulations Kid, you are now an apprentice body tech!
"Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Emily!"..., says the German living in Belgium, speaking english and restoring the flying sparks way...
Easy wrenching to you all...
Wow,.. I've been watching for so long I got to see your niece grow up on the channel. Haha, happy to see she still loves car stuffs after all these years! and OMG I have that same ladder and the taller one to match!
Ohhhh juuust you wait for the upcoming episodes with the kid!!!!!
the 57 chevy was my first car,a 2dr htp 283 v8 with 3spd on the column.I was 16.I am 79 now and have owned 8 57s,obviously i love them.good work guys.
I was 49 years old Time goes by fast. Enjoy every second of it. Happy birthday Emily!
My mom drove a 57. My uncle had a 56. My sisters boyfriend had a 55. I come from a large family with lots of aunts and uncles cousins etc. The amount of classic cars I grew up with is amazing. The list is just crazy when I think about it. I rode in some NICE cars when I was a little kid.
Might be "Water under the bridge" now, but use a little Baking Soda & water 2 or 3 tablespoons to a gallon of water To Neutralize the remnants of the acid bath. Plain water Won't Neutralize the acid. It doesn't take much baking soda at all to neutralize it. Go back over it Fairly quickly with a damp towel or you'll have a chalky residue of the soda. Get it dried fast or rust will develop. Helps Promote the primer adhesion also. --- Retired from a 26 year Paint Lab stint. Just Sayin' lol -- Happy Belated Birthday
When my sister passed away I inherited her 71 Malibu coupe. I was married at the time so suggested we find another one for her for "his & hers" Malibu's at car shows. The one we found was a roller that someone had put a battery on the trunk shelf that had spilled acid. There was a huge pile of white "stuff" from the acid reacting with the steel. The acid had seeped into all the little cracks in the detail parts welded behind the rear seat and no amount of pressure washing or rinsing with baking soda & water would stop it. The surface tension of the soda water kept it from penetrating into those cracks. A quick check of the design handbook found that ammonia (easily found and low surface tension) would do the trick and it did. Although it is also corrosive, it's not nearly as bad as the acid and 20 years later no problems at all. I've never had a problem with phosphoric acid as long as you get it off any surfaces you want to paint. (Mine did the yellowing too but was never an issue - I always gave it a scuff right before the epoxy and never had an adhesion problem. (Not making recommendations - just sharing my own experience from many years ago!). Looks awesome! Great job everyone! We used to say try to avoid "paralysis by analysis" LOL!
Happy birthday to the birthday girl. You can now claim to be forever 37 years old no matter how many years go by. And congrats on getting the kid more learning experience form the Auntie and Uncle. One thing you may want to invest in is a paint shaker. It can be air or electric. New or used. Since that primer was so thick I think it could have used a paint shaker to thin it a little bit. Great process and it is all about the prep to start the body work. And more body work, more prepping before paint. Y'all will learn a lot. Looking forward to more '57 Chev madness
That's a hard working young person there - somebody is doing a good job of raising!
I have a 1955 GMC that has been sitting. My 18 year old daughter says to me “you need to take care of that , you know I want that someday “ so y’all are inspiring me to get to work on my 55’
So much enjoyed your heart to heart chat.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Adrian for that!! I thought it was too long and y’all would get bored!! Adrian said he loved it so we left it!!!
Much joy to you both… I love the cats looking at your work and owning the garage …..
A I love the teaching of your niece she enjoys being with you guys and it shows
The kid is growing up to be a young lady and is very lucky to you two as aunt and uncle teaching her some skills that not many kids get now a days. Enjoying the videos. Time to go work on my car.
Taking your time is the only way to approach a classic car project, so glad you guys are taking this rout. I'm in.
👍 I’m on board. Take your time.
EVAPORUST= Chelation!, that simple! .. Love it.
When I paint my cars I sling the hose over my shoulder & around my neck it helps control the hose off the product . Nice work enjoying watching you all 3 . I getting ready to finish paint on my pickup but first need to repair exhaust manifold repair . Have a nice night see you in the next episode .
I can’t agree more. Why put yourself under extra pressure. Just enjoy the process, stay focused, and see where the project takes you.
thanks for keepin' it real!
So much patience involved on restoring a vehicle. The end result will be priceless.
Your analogy regarding your plane is spot on, keep up the great work.
I personally love the longer videos ❤
So glad!!
Wow! That thing is pristine!! I need to watch this series from the beginning!!
I have to say, you guys have a beautiful and awesome family. I love the fact that you are teaching the Kid to work on cars. And that she is willing to learn alongside of the 2 of you. Keep up the good work. Hope to meet you guys one day. Love from East Texas
The car is super nice, gonna make a solid foundation
Happy Belated Birthday and the 57 is looking very well done. Amazing outcome. God Bless.
Old man tip, place a small air flow into your soaking pots, it's amaizing how much faster the parts clean up, ..you're welcome.
This is such a awesome series! I am especially enjoying it as my daughter and I are currently working on our own family Tri-Five project, a '55 210 two door sedan.
I must admit I sped through your beautiful video. Because I’ve done this work so often and I do not want to say, oh you should have done this or that. I watch because it helps you guys out, but I like keeping my seeing things to myself. BUT SAYING THAT, cover all your tool boxes with plastic? My 2 cents. Many years ago I had purchased new boxes, left them open while I sprayed a candy apple Dodge Challenger……..To this day I walk in my garage and I see red……good memories but I cleaned red paint for a week off everything 🙄😁😂🤣love you guys. 👍
Painting is definitely the fun part after all the hard work, plus its practice for final paint. You guys are doing great!
A bit of dawn dish soap in your final rinse will eliminate that chalk when it dries
You all are awesome teaching that young lady how to work on cars❤
Love the Tri-5s they are iconic my father has had many of these cars the 55-56-57 Chevrolet cars and trucks are true legends 😎Great to see another one saved
It's funny how you mentioned that the kid is home schooled and that this was science class. We home school my granddaughter and there are many times that we have impromptu situations which we use as science class, geography, math, shop class, and so on. Good for you for taking the interest and the time to spend with your niece. The car is coming out great! It was such a difference and a good feeling when i epoxy primed my 74 Ventura.
I'm really diggin' this (format) "in the garage, with Aaron, Emily and the kid"! Awesome job keep up the good work!
Another Feb birthday here, turned 69 on Sunday. Happy birthday Emily.
Thank you very much for doing this old school. It’s all I can ever do, so it’s good to see it. You both rock.
Let me give you a super tip: Evapo-Rust works amazingly fast if you constantly pump it onto the park. Think of it like a parts washer. Get one of those 17 gallon round tubs from tractor supply, a couple of fish tank pumps, necessary hoeses, and built a kind of spray booth with it. Drop your part in the tub, enough Evapo-Rust to keep the fish tank pumps submerged, and boom. You can selftap a couple of coat hangers on the side of the tub to act as holders for the spray hose. 15 to 30 minutes, the part will look brand new.
You guys are killing it… That car looks amazing ….
Of course you picked a good one to start with. I can’t wait to see what color or colors you go with.
It’s good to see you guys making special memories for the kid too. That car will be special to her forever
I love that y'all are taking the time to enjoy this project and do it the way you want instead of hurrying to make the deadline. Keep up the great work!!
Time goes fast, When I was seven years old our neighbor had a four-door 57 Chevy with that same paint and I still remember riding in that car and feeling special, the car was in great shape but that was in 1957.
We all get to do Birthdays ? 1 Feb 47 so if you add both your ages, we are the same. Great entertaining and informative video. I have done a number of strip reprints and have used neutralizer so the chemical reaction stops and surface rust does not reappear. Happy Birthday Emily !!! This is the kind of rebuild we have been waiting to see. Take your time. Film it all....we want to see. Suggest all new rubber suspension parts while it is apart. This was fun. Thanks for letting us all tag along. Take care and stay safe.
Looks Marvelous. The kid is a good worker. A really fun video to watch. Can't hardly wait for the next one.
Can watch 57 videos all day long as i just love them. Took me 4 years to do mine and not not having a great deal of money was offset by my free labour. (Lots and lots of it) There are a lot of ways to make things easier but sometimes the only way to be sure is the one that takes the longest. My friends car was thrashed by a sand blaster and it cost him dearly. At the end you will have a beautiful 57 and you will have pride every time you lot at it as you guys did it did it yourselves
Will be nice build when done! Are u protecting that bare metal with anything? Rock on kids!!!
You're dealing with an age-old problem we call "flash rust", what you get after a complete strip without neutralizing the surface after. No worries! You caught it and you're doing fine 👍
Thanks again for all the great content !

Who said it was a long video. It was great. I enjoyed every minute of it. Happy birthday, Emily. 37 and 40, I passed that many years ago. Yup, that primer brought out all the dimples in that old girl. To find all the bad spots. Shoot it with a mist of dark gray, or black primer before you sand it. It's surprising how many low spots will show up. Love your videos and how you involve the kid. Fantastic teaching her at that age. Stay safe. I hope to see you guys at a show or tour again. 👍👍👍👍👍
Love this! And don’t be afraid to do this longer videos
Love the can do positive attitude, the family example and the ‘57. Tri-5’s are gems and I have a special affinity for the 57 210’s. How can I not watch this? Thanks for the entertainment!
Happy B-day Emily 🎂! I'm 69 years old and if theres one thing that life has taught me is Nothing Is Free.🤔🚜 You go guys! What ratio do you have in Roxy's differential and did you change it after getting back from Drag Week a couple of years ago?
