As of right now, I am losing any single hope for this remake to EVEN exceed my nonexistent Expectations...
The thing is, I'm not even sure if I want to trust Bloober Team to handle the remake and I have no clue to why Konami want them to do this instead of other reputable studios...
Easy answer, bloober prolly was a cheaper option.
The origin story situation with pyramid head was false and konami came out and said it was a bad translation with the best buy listing. In regards to the SH HD collection the game devs had to work with incomplete source code.
Which once again, is not an excuse in this day and age as companies can reverse engineer builds from retail copies. The HD Collection and TH can take a hike.
I think it was posible to decode thr game from debugged copyes on cds but they refused to pay lol
I don't care. I mean, I want to care. Been a fan since 1999 with the original Silent Hill, I walked this road for long enough to make peace with the end of the series. Then, Konami comes and bring this corpse of it's grave for a quick buck. Come on.

@@SossboyOG The entire Lisa Trevor story was added in the remake as was the extended mansion rooms and guest houses sequences. The backgrounds were completely redone from the original as was the voice the script the soundtrack, the weapons and items are rearranged and rebalanced. The engine it ran on was new, for the time, thankyou very much.
its not just a "remaster" thats the most incredibly misinformed thing I have ever heard-- like did you even play it? That REMAKE was remastered in the mid-2010s. Thats the only time its ever been called a remaster aside from the dualshock versions of the original

Some important perspective people forget, or don't know, is when SH2 came out it wasn't well received by many SH1 fans.
20/20 has SH2 one of the greatest psych horror games ever, but when it first came out it didn't do well with many fans.
It was your classic slow burn and took some years before it became a true classic. Despite getting 8 mainline releases, SH1 is still the best in sales tally even if SH2 is considered the zenith of the series. The most recent total series sales tally for Silent Hill was in 2019 at only 9 million+ unit sold.

Thank you, i was just about to post the same thing. It was many years before this game started gaining traction. I admit that when I played it on ps2 (very close to its release day), other than how scary it was, i didn't leave with much of an impression. The vast majority of the psychological elements were lost on my 16 year old self. I liked SH3 a lot better on the first run.
Konami came out and debunked the pyramid head backstory DLC. If anything it would be the “born from a wish” scenario.
Everyone please just play Signalis, Crow Country, Lone Survivor or Lost in vivo. It doesn’t have to be one game. They are indie games out there that are faithful to the silent hill genre.

Silent Hill used to fill me with dread because of its heavy, nightmarish atmosphere, horrific and elegant monster designs, and compelling somber narrative. Now any news of Silent Hill fills me with dread hearing about the next way that konami embarrasses themselves and insults the fans of the series.
I heard a while back that bloober team, (the designers behind Layers of Fear) was contracted to work on the SH2 remaster. There are some conflicting ideas behind this, like if they will do the series justice, or if it will be a mess of ideas, etc. I personally think that having as little to do with konami as possible would be a positive direction. Its almost hard to believe that its been almost 9 years since they let go of the Silent Hills re-imagining, abused the project and Kojima so much. Myself and many other passionate fans of the series lost so much faith that day they announced the closure of the project. There is without a doubt that anyone who loves SH will be skeptical and fearful of any future release.
...Also a pyramid head origin story is vastly unnecessary and just a pants-on-head stupid idea... It's telling on how little konami understands their own franchises.
We know this remake is just for the movie, simple as that, this is an advertising move, which could be good, or bad, who knows, the last pictures look good, but again, we need to see the gameplay.

The fact that people are actually giving Konami the time of day makes me really sad, they used this tactic before. "The Year of Silence" in which every single product they produced was either lack luster or an outright downgrade. But it's being what thirteen years give or take so what have they produced so far? Oh right the AI generated gruel of Ascension! A nonsensical microtransaction fest where you can pay real money to decide the fate of a bunch of pod people trying desperately to behave even slightly human.
The pyramid origin story was confirmed to be untrue. The sentence was worded poorly thus implying an origin story for him. But it was meant to reference Maria’s origin story

Pyramid Head can only exist through James, he is the physical manifestation of James's guilty subconscious mind and thus can only exist with James presence. Konami has messed up so bad through the years that regaining the trust back through us the fans is going to be extremely difficult even if this remake is successful, trust is earned and when you lose it, it's almost impossible to regain back. I think anything original whether it's movie's, tv shows, and or video games, honestly, should be left alone because the magic that made the original of anything in this world is what made it so great and captivating for the fans in the first place and can't and should not be duplicated.
If they do it right, the pyramid head mode may be solid. I may be on the wrong wave length, but they could set it up like the born of a wish for Maria where, just, all of a sudden they're their and trying to figure out what's going on and where they are. Maybe we even participate in pyramid head descending into madness and r***ing bubblehead nurses and kill Maria in front of James.
Don't get me wrong, I'm terrified of this game failing. I'm hopeful though, because I i want 1-4 remastered as faithfully as humanly possible with all the endings and completion rewards like Heathers magical girl outfit lol
So I'm hopeful that this really does pan out and that they've been leaking poor quality information to add to the tension and fear the game itself will give once we play it, but I'm not expecting that though. I expect it to flop, but I'm hoping that's not the case.
I'm sorry, I'm tired and very passionate about this franchise. Along with soul reaver which also desperately needs a new coat of paint, these were my childhood and I want it given the respect it deserves and to be as great as when it first released
Silent Hill 2 is a masterpiece. Bloober team should start by remaking silent hill 1, as it would alow them to prepare... Konami will just fuck this up sadly 😢

STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!! “The pyramid head origin story” is NOT REAL it was a mistranslation. It was referring to an ORIGIN story INCLUCING the pyramid head we all know. It was talking about the “Born from a wish” origin story sub scenario that came w SH2.
But how do we know Konami isn’t just saying that due to the major backlash? How do we know they aren’t recanting to save face? But let’s say Best Buy genuinely got it wrong is that all you took from the entire video? That’s a small fraction of the video. I would argue that Konami back peddled based on fans reaction. I mean they pulled the March release date down off of Steam and now just says 2024. Could they be making changes of course. on another positive news , Konami on December last year decided to re-unite Team Silent and this information came from one the original team silent artists who has a channel on twitch and she mention that they held a re-unite party last December at Konami Headquarters
First off, great video on how you covered past games and why they mean so much to you and all of us SH fans. I grew up with Silent hill and Resident evil. After watching the gameplay trailer, my expectations fell off a cliff. It’s been a long wait for any news to come out of Silent hill 2 after the first trailer which excited me. We got a lazy trailer showing off a game that left more questions than the town of silent hill itself. It looks plain awful on so many levels and I am really hoping by the fans complaints, Konami wakes up. This franchise is what made me a horror game fan to this day and as much as I love the resident evil games, the story is not the same. Racoon City was like Silent Hill. Now that is gone and we are left with action a movie cheese. Silent Hill has the potential to be a scary game even better than the resident evil games.
Personally they should've gotten thier feet wet 1st with a SH 1 remake , before they go very deep into the void of what the soul and meaning behind what Silent Hill 2 actually meant.. The flaws of the human condition, sin , and purgatory. Redemption, Lustfulness, forgiveness, murder, suicide, friendship, and finding peace..
. Honestly a game such as this doesn't need to be remade.. The themes are too heavy. It's a reason why SH 3 went in a different direction..

This game has to fail. It is a a product of a kind of corporate behavior that needs to be punished. I don't need a SH2 remake as much as I need a healthy industry where real creators don't get replaced by this.
The SH2 Remake is %100 a cash grab and completely unnecessary. They saw how successful Capcom was with their remakes and wanted a piece of that money train. I have no idea why they chose Blooper Team because they have never made a good or original horror game. Let alone one with combat mechanics and for whatever reason they felt the need to give James the ability to fight monsters like he's not suffering from some kind of dissociative disorder. There was even an article where someone from BT flat out confirmed they were changing parts the story from the OG SH2 game for "modern audiences". The remake looks too clean to be psychological horror in any real way and I didn't see a speck of film grain so I had zero expectations since the announcement dropped.
If Konami really cared and actually wanted to keep the franchise alive, they would have dedicated an internal team, like Team Silent, to make new games rather than farm out the IP to other companies and follow a trend by remaking the most profitable game in a series. If SH ascension didn’t clue people in to this fact, then nothing will.
I’m extremely excited for the remake just to see the environment in modern graphics. If the combat is jank I can live with that.
Love SH2, though I'm not a fan of Bloober in the slightest, so this Remake is gonna be an easy skip for me.
Looking forward to SHf though, Ryukishi07 being the writer and Kera being the main artist (character and monster designer) are actually a huge deal for the game.

Sorry, as a big fan of the original Dead Space, I wasn't impressed by the Remake at all.
Konami skipped on Remaking SH1 because they know that most people's favourite is SH2. But again, I don't want any of the four Team Silent games to be remade in general, let alone by a subpar developer such as Bloober.
Damn it. I just got the HD collection on my series s. It’ll be my first time playing Silent Hill 2 and 3. Unfortunately that’s kind of the only way I can experience those games given how expensive the ps2 copies are lol.
They had the chance to give us the backstory of Laura, Angela and Eddie and chose Pyramid Head? If you are a true blue Silent Hill fan, then you know where PH came from. And for those of you that don't know...go replay Silent Hill 2 again and again until you figure it out.

The only thing that will keep the legacy alive is the dreaded 9 letter word every content creator is afraid to say out loud. Duckstation and pcsx2 are both phenomenal emulators that at this point can play just about everything as intended. If you know where to get a hold of the roms, which isnt hard if you know where to look, anything that becomes of the remake or the other two games in development will go on however they end up. If SH2 and even the MGS3 remake end up succeeding all expectations, then Konami made the most shocking comeback. if not, the history is still preserved.
They picked one of the worst developers too remake there game and that Was Bloober Team which are a Polish Developers Remaking a Japanese Game. JAPANESE & Polish cultures are ,so different from eachother that theu will mess it up and completely change it.
I actually played every SH and when i was younger i was stupid enough to actually like both Downpour and Homecoming too, but later I've realized that the 4 ogs are the only true ones. Tho some parts of Homecoming like bossrs being monsters in a way they were killed by parents, was interesting and i still like Origins despite everything because it tried to do something with symbolism at least (Travis being not ok w women and his secret hatred, taste for violence, guilt... He's definitely not a nice guy who once did the right thing and it backfired. I like only 5 SH and origins by pure "me thing".

Well the Pyramidhead Mode could actually fit if you remember there was a mode for Maria aswell and spoiler alert she was part of Mary and PyramidHead is part of James so maybe could work to play as a shadow clown of James born in Silent hill confused why hes there and at the end turns into that lovely bug hunk og Metal

My God..this starting Silent Hill 2 Intro takes me back to the world of this Fascinating Psychological Thriller.The music ..The lonliness you feel..the nervousness you feel seeing what's behind the fog..That is what Silent Hill is about..

If you can "tolerate" or find enjoyment in the "dated" mechanics of the original, you're better off playing that. Not saying SH2 remake will be terrible, but I think it will be a lesser experience of the original.
This game is going to be solid. Bloober will probably stick to the source material with some liberties. It is a remake not a remaster. If one goes in expecting a 1:1 beat for beat then be prepared to die inside. If you go in knowing you always have the OG and this is a modern take, you will be fine. Just do not think this is make or break because it is not. They still have SH1,3 and 4. Also all the new games.

Konami is skipping to the most profitable titles, they're also doing it with Metal Gear Solid- while twin snakes is technically a remake of 1 they skipped MGS2 because MGS3 is the most popular title. It makes me very worried about what the intention is for making SH2 again

Why can't everyone just admit that SH1-4 were classics and move on? The series doesn't have to continue just because of its legacy especially if the story ark is already done. Just play new games outside of the franchise and replay the classics. I don't personally care about the continuation, because Team Silent is long gone - I can't imagine why anyone would care if those guys aren't involved anymore

With all due respect, i really don't like the term "cashgrab". Silent HIll Ascension was shit, and going by the SH2 Remake trailers from yesterday i can say that i'm not a fan of them going into the 3rd person-behind the shoulder action horror thing. However, SH Short Message was really good. And free to download actually. They have put in SO MUCH money into both Ascension and SH2 Remake. People have said constantly that Ascension was a cashgrab. You can take part of the entire series without spending any money. If Konami just wanted quick money, do you actually think that they even considered going back into gaming? They rake in tons of money on pachinko machines and their gacha games, they don't need to take the financial risk they do by trying to renew the series with a bunch of new titles in the franchise.
The problem with the SH2 Remake is that whatever they put out at this point, they will be hated for it. SH Fans are a rough crowd, just look at the American made games. They were far from as great as the first four. But neither of them deserved that much hate as they got, they were fine horror games.
SH2 have gotten such a mythical status online that people see it as the perfect entity of video game history. I love the game, played through it about 15 times on several consoles (The fan-mod for the PC port is amazing, look it up). But to be fair, SH2 has A LOT of flaws. The mechanics have not aged well and the voice-acting (which is iconic and works perfectly in the context) was never meant to turn out that way. According to Guy Cihi (who basically ran the mo-cap and voice directing as well as being the voice of James) have said that Konami did not give them enough budget to be enough for an actual acting-director and actual actors. So they literally brought in the first people they found and left them to their own devices. Source from a lot of official documentaries, like the one that came with the SH2 game in PAL, and Guy have said this himself (i worked with him at his software company in Tokyo for about 6 months, got to hear a lot about the production). The fans have built up an image that everything was meticulously planned out. When everything was more or less happy accidents, the right people at the right place.
Team Silent was always a revolving roster of Konami empoyees that was not adressed to another project. There was only 4 people that worked on every single game in the original trilogy. Two of them have said that they have been consulting the SH2 Remake. The few that actually made Team Silent is involved in this project.
My point with all of this? Im afraid that whatever Konami do at this point, they will be hated for it. They can't do right here. Even when they have done right, they still get hate for it. I wish that more SH fans were like the Resident Evil ones. RE3 Remake was shit, but instead of acting like babies and doxxing the people behind Ascension, the Resident Evil fans just decided to not care anymore about RE3.
Not critizing here, i just feel like if the general public keep throwing shit at Konami for games that have not even been released yet, they might AGAIN come to the conclusion that people don't want anymore Silent Hill titles, and then just cancel every new project.
We don't have to enjoy anything they release at this point, but let's be civil about it. Like you have!

Getting it digitally in ps3 or Vita may be official but you are not helping Team Silent, a remake is simply not desirable and a physical copy may not be a good idea given the life expectancy of hardware

Well they have three options this time, SH2 remake, Townfall, and SHF. Some of the three, or the three should be good. They can't bring back Team Silent KCET that's for sure, bc the team changed started after SH1, the director went to Sony and create Siren. The other option is that Kojima destroyed Silent Hill once and for all, with Overdose OD. According with TGA and the clues of the presentation, he is gonna fight against SH, maybe with his own spooky town, and crazy P.T. plot. So players have 4 options, at least one or more should be good.
Townfall will likely be the weakest because it will be a game where you just walk around, listen, read and maybe solve some puzzles. SH2 and SH"F" will be games that are designed in a more traditional format that the series is known for.
