Repotting an Orchid Keiki - Phalaenopsis Orchid Keiki
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 чер 2013
- This is a short video showing you how to repot an Orchid Keiki from a Phalaenopsis orchid. This Phalaenopsis orchid also has a couple of partial keiki's which are extremely interesting and bizarre. Keiki's are a great way to propagate orchids without needing to pollinate orchids and grow orchid seedlings.

It's been more than a year since you repotted the keiki, would love to see an update!! Thanks!
Yes I would as well and see how the other stem turned out
Getting ready to do the same thing. How did the babies fare?
This was the best I've watched. Thorough explanation. Easy to understand and I didn't have to watch a 28 min video! Thank You!
I really liked the video. Your speaking was clear, the video was well shot and the information was easy to understand as you pointed out what keiki and spikes were as you talked.
The joke about 3 hands was funny. The humor was not lost on me! Thank you for this video, I've been watching a little keiki on my own orchid for a while and I think it's ready to be repotted but I wanted to make sure I did it right.
Thank you! I have just followed your instructions to pot my keiki. It too is about 8 months old but has a complete stem of flowers growing. I've left them on - I hope I don't lose them!
Did you lose the flowers and how is your plant in general
@@binkb7926 Hi - thanks for getting back. The flowers stayed for a while and then died off and I cut the spike back. The keiki still looking healthy - slow growth but the roots are spreading a new leave sprouting out now. Slow process! :)
Excellent, brief and succinct and just what I needed to know. Thank you!
I've just potted my keiki, very interesting, thank you Vince
Thank you for a very informative video. I purchased my first orchid recently and want to make sure I look after it and get beautiful blooms year after year.
Thanks fot explaining so clear! I'm just beginning with Orchids, so I can use your lessons!
Your voice is so soothing, I keep zoning out.
Brilliant video, short and direct to the subject... Thank you!
Just the right info I needed. I will follow your procedures and hopefully it will be successful too. Thanks a lot for your well produced video.
So interesting. I have never seen a keiki grow so strangely. Even though two of my keikis started to bloom as well, it was just one huge flower and the keiki continued to grow. 💜 Beautiful video!
Thank you. Very good presentation. As soon as one of my orchids produce a keiki, I am going to try this method.
Thank you. Good, clear instructions. I’m doing it myself now!!!
I hate it when TV shows end with a cliff-hanger and then the next season never comes! :P
This was an interesting video. I’ve never seen an orchid with these anomaly’s. Excellent video!
I am happy to watch your video and learned about keike. Thanks a lot.
Great little video. Gave me all the information that I needed plus more. I appreciate that you did not ramble on about a bunch of stuff, just stuck to the issue. Some videos are ego feeds for the instructor but this one was not and it was terrific. Many thanks!
I love it when nature does stuff out of the ordinary
Thank you! Really enjoyed this video.
Awesome video, The voice sound so clear its makes me want to see the whole video, And very interesting Keiki you have.
Good job!!!
That's a very interresting plant!
I have one with a leaf on a flower spike right now. I also have one that produced a kiki. Thank you for this video. I'll let mine grow a bit longer before I transplant it.
Nice keiki's you have there...good luck with them and thanks for posting this video..
Thanks for the video.
I have a Keiki with five leaves, six roots and a spike.
The mother plant is a miniature Phalaenopsis.
I think I'll let the roots grow a little longer, then repot using your advice.
Thanks again 👍
Love your voice! Thanks for great video!
Thank you that was exactly what I needed to know and how to do it.
Thank you so much! I realized from your video that my Keiki, is very healthy and I should have cut it off a while ago and repotted. Thanks for your help!
Awesome video. Love you are a freak of nature with 3 hands
Thanks I finally got the courage to take off the keiki and plant it. It was big!
I was not aware that Orchids could grow that way ^_^ It's the first time I have taken care of this plant and when leaves began to grow I thought it was how the branch would bloom. Thank you so much for the info.
Thank you for this informative video, it is going to help me tremendously.
Thank you, just the information I was looking for.
Informative and not above the heads of the new keiki owners...great video clip
This was so relevant. Have a Mother plantvwhich i repotted. It threw out 2 Keikis also with new Flower stems. Your Show How, simple and informative Thank You
Every once in a while I sprinkle used tea bag grounds into the bark - They seem to love it! Keikis and spikes galore :)
Such a lovely orchid
thank you for very clear instructions
please, do the update!!!
Really good video. Thanks.
Very helpful, my orchid has grown a Keiki, so thank you
Thank you for the advice
Thank you for this video! I'll try this !
Lovely! thank you, i have 2 tiny keikis on 2 of my phaleanopsis :)
this is very informative thank you for sharing
Thank you for this very helpful video. I never heard of a keiki orchid-but that’s what I have. Both mother and keiki have finished blooming. I will cut off the keiki as you’ve shown.
i too have an orchid (a mini phal) which has a leaf growing, I thought it was a keiki but is growing too strange. a great plant you have got. cant wait to see more, please keep us updated on mother and baby!!!
Great video, very very helpful, so thank you. Would love to see how this Keiki is in due time.
Amazing video
Thanks so much for the info. My Keiki is a couple of years old and I left it on the mother plant as it puts out the most amazing blossom spike. Now two more have formed on the plant although I've never done anything to propagate from it. I'm going to try and separate the biggest one. I'm hoping it's going to survive!
Thanks for sharing I will plant mine now
Thanx so much finally found what ans I was looking for 👍👏👏
An awesome video friend... It would be guiding me from learning into action. Thank's for video sharing.
wow, that must be a super happy plant
Very interesting! Thank you!
Thanks. I understood keiki clearly.
Finally I know what to do with my strange orchid. It has a keiki on a keiki apparently . Thank you!
Excellent - very helpful
Thanks so much for showing me how to separate the Keiki.
I have one orchid has 4 little keiki babies, and wondering about what to do.
You showed me clearly and I am going try to separate keiki for the first time.
cheers
I have a 2 keiki's on my orchid and was wondering what to do re planting. Thanks for your informative video.
Very very interesting, great video thank you for the info :)
great video and very clearly spoken. You should ask for a mini watering can for Christmas! (to make pouring easier)
My keiki still has 4 flowers on the stem past its 4 leaves and 3 roots. I think I will wait until the blooms are gone to cut it off the mail plant and repot. Thank you for your pics and instructions. My plant looks very much like yours.
I can't wait to try this
I received an orchid from sister in law who had let the flowers drop and it didn't look good at all. I watered it correctly and put it into a south facing window. Suddenly it put on two new flower spikes and a keiki. The Keiki has three leaves and three roots on it. I plan to remove the keiki and plant it soon. The orchid is blooming at the time and just keeps on putting on more flowers at the end of the spikes. It has three spikes, two with flowers and one with the keiki.
Interesting video and informative also.
Thanks
WOWW,,SOO BEAUTIFUL
Thank you for tips.
My orchid plant has just developed a keiki at the very top of the spike. Now that I have watched your demonstration I guess I shall be patient and wait and see what will happen.
Thanks for sharing I'm going to check if there is another video to follow this one.
Interesting vid. Had no idea this could happen.
Thenks for the tips.😊
Would love to see an update :)
Thank you very much!
OMG you have helped me tremendously! My florist or my mother in law who has been growing orchids for 30 years had never seen this until the one that was gifted to me 4 years ago went crazy. I turned to UA-cam and found you! lol so I'm gonna wait until the roots grow longer before I cut it off to plant. Thanks and I will keep you posted 😙
thanks for video this is the first time i have had keiki so here go,s
Thank you!
Thanks for your help , it was a very useful video! What happened with your orchid after you left the spike?
very help full buddyyy,,thank u
I been watching your videos, you did a pretty good job. I am wondering how old is this mother orchid? Pretty amazing when it forms keiki
great information
Hi Real, Your video is great. I too have had this oddity growth on a Phal. I left the baby on the mother plant and it bloomed. I don't know if it was something I did, but soon after the mother plant started to shrivel. Eventually it died. I still have the baby planted but even after almost a year nothing has happened. The plant is very healthy looking so I am just leaving it to see what will happen. Thanks Patsy
Just cut off and potted a keike today. I was in hospital for a month so it was getting limp. It has a good root system, sure hope it comes back.
Isn't it! Crazy little rebel orchid!
Thanks for the informative video. Is there a best time to do this procedure or can I do it any point throughout the year and flowering?
I've never heard of this, but the keiki and the mother plant are both doing really well regardless.
great tips
I just got my first orchid and I'm trying to learn all I can. I've watched many gardening videos today that annoyed me a bit and so I really liked this one. You don't go on and on and on and there are enough details. So, thanks! (Also, is your last name Greek?)
When you repotted & put the water in the bottom of the bowl, do you just leave the pot in that water or when do you take it out. I am sorry but I am unclear on that part?
Hello nice video. I was wondering if you treated the plant in a particular fashion to create the growth of the keikis: did you fertilize in any specific way or use Keiki paste?
I have several plants on which i applied keiki paste and there is plenty of growth on most of them. However it is early to tell if these are secondary spikes or Keikis. Thank you.
Love your site. I didn't know about Keiki's. Do you just leave the old flower spikes alone and the Keiki's develop? Or do you do something to make them form? I want to try the technique with my orchids. I have a Japanese Orchid that has been in full bloom for 2 months now; I love to look at it every day. I also have several other orchid plants. Thanks, Pam
Hi, I love this video. Did you ever make the update?
Great video! For the 8 months that your keiki was on the mother plant, did you water it or mist it separately to the mother plant? I have two phalaenopsis orchids with apical keikis in "infant" stages and I'm not sure what to do when they start producing roots. Thanks.
Hey, I've got a keiki doing the same as yours did. I've got hydration issues with my girls. Still working on that!
Did the keiki flower?
Just what I was looking for! Bought my mom an Orhid 2 years ago and after it flowered it grew babies! Two of them. I removed the one from the top which has a few nice roots. I'm going to plant it now. Did your baby have the energy to bloom?
I have a phal as well it is a water culture phal and I noticed at the base of the plant on both sides it is growing two keikis I am thrilled about this. My question is, should I leave them on the mother plant and let them grow or remove them they are growing quite fast?
Hi! I love Your videos, I would like to make you some questions.
I have a lot of orchid plans and one of those has 3 keikis, in two sticks.
The biggest kwikis have 2 years and only 5 sheet and 3root. In one of the sticks, I have at the top one keike and in the middle another one! Can I cup them now?
Thanks for your answer
If you need a picture, please let me know.
A wonderful, informative video!! How did this little keiki fare??
Carole from Chicago
thanks hope the plant is doing good..?
