Who goes to an event like this, pays a lot of money to attend and then doesn't fully explore the comparatively small space? Seems like an idiotic thing to do, surely most people at least passed by. Has to be a bigger reason if your sales were as low as half as much as projected.
This year main entry and badge pickup was from near the will call office, which did place your booth close to the main entry this year - but your booth's placement there was a pretty bum deal, without your huge sign it would have been practically invisible. There was so much space dedicated to the signing booths, the tournaments and the classic and console computer gaming displays, and a big swath of underutilized space on the auditorium side of the convention hall; and all of the vendors were crammed together in what felt like 2/3 of the space. 2023 was definitely an easier year to shop the convention and your booth.
I really don't think it was the layout at fault. Yes, Hall D has been used typically at PRGE, but other cons, Hall C entry is used more often and usually looked as the main entry from the lobby bc it's right there by the OCC identity pylon. Also paying for a bigger vendor space does not mean more profits. It was only 2023 that they introduced an Artists Alley. This year, they still had artists but there was no specific section. Artists were spread all over the exhibitor hall. It made it more interesting for attendees to see different things and was a good mix if it. And this year they had a plethora of Celebrity Guests. They had 4 guests from the Mortal Kombat series that did multiple MK voices ie Daniel Pesina who voices Johnny Cage, Sub Zero and Scorpion. A ton of Mario voice actors, Bowser, Peach, Toad and more! 90s cartoon Leonardo. The Atari Co Founder. The list goes on. Where past years they either didn't or barely had any guests. Only game developers and youtubers. People are just spreading their money more rather than buying from one booth. Please don't look at PRGE as a negative bc of booth space/curtains and layout. You are a big contribution to the show. There are just more vendors and more guests. I did go pre covid and the show was underwhelmingly small. I almost wanted to quit going. But I'm glad I've gone every year possible and seeing the show itself expand.
Back in 2012-2013 they would have us enter on the opposite doors where the new stairs have been built. As it got bigger then they switched to the round hallway. Seemed to work pretty well so not sure why they changed it up.
The Friday thing kinda messed it up for people. I didn't know what to expect this year with the way things was going. Crazy part is even as a vendor, I didn't feel like I was able to walk around to see everyone's booth.
Your booth was the first booth I gravitated towards when the doors opened on Friday, so it was nice to walk in and see the big Double Jump sign above everything else (other than the massive Atari pillar). I picked up an Elephant Mario plush and Zelda EoW right away and ran into Happy Console Gamer within the first like 10-15 minutes while at your booth and my mind was freaking BLOWN! Thank you to Abby for taking my picture with Johnny! It’s too bad that your guys’ sales weren’t as great as you expected, though! It was my first time at a convention, so I have nothing to compare my first experience to, BUT…if I could make a PRGE recommendation to the committee, I’d recommend using more of the ballrooms on the second floor for panels, keep all of the panels in one area rather than some on the main floor and some on the second floor and I think if they use more of the ballrooms, they could also allow for more time for each panelist because 45 minutes seemed extremely quick. I mean, I don’t think they necessarily need to be hours and hours each, but maybe like up-to 90 minutes each. Maybe there are some panelists that wouldn’t want to go for a whole 90 minutes and that’s okay, if you run shorter, then you run shorter, but most of the panelists that I attended seemed rushed and weren’t able to fit much if any Q&A in even when they wanted to.
On them hats everyone bought, have you thought about reaching out to the company that makes them to sell in the store? I wouldnt be surprised if they Double Jump for the opportunity.
Oh I would be mad. They're how are you going to put the people who are paying the most in the back? Even if they could see you. That means everybody who paid last gets first dibs at the customers? Who set this up?
you guys got some fun goodies. good you buy things when you go and not just expecting people to buy from you. Thats how everyone wins..AND sorry PRGE didnt go as planned. Hope next year it gets changed up..
I think it has less to do with your booth location and more to do with your booth layout. (it was by the 9am line entrance I think - good for Friday and opening Sat, but not great for the bulk afternoon attendees I agree. Maybe next year suggest they open Halls D & E up instead of just C so they could sell more 3-day vendor booths and give Friday attendees more stuff to do...) The other factor is the general economy is trending down - ie - a general increase in trade-ins. But back to booth layout - I think the best way to describe your booth layout is to keep customers OUT rather than draw them IN. You had a 30'x15' footprint and put all of your interesting things on the 30' wall and people could only see them from 15' away and half the time visibility was blocked by walls of plushies. All the glass cases are good for security and loss prevention, but with only being able to display bindings, and poor line of sight from the convention pathways, literally no one could catch a glimpse of something to interest them to draw them into your booth. I don't think anyone knew yall had a Pokémon Box at all the entire time because it was stuck in a glass box showing the side art which is quite unrecognizable. Compare that to VGW that had it front cover art facing out into the pathway with a bright light shining on it. Sure, it probably didn't sell but I guarantee a ton more people that went to PRGE saw that price tag. The more cover art of that you can show to draw people in, and then they can read the nearby bindings as they get closer! Mathematically, your layout an area of 450ft² and a store perimeter of 60ft. Bump that perimeter from 60ft to 120ft and sales will scale proportionally I feel (ie - your 2023 Piranha Plant layout was better mathematically than 2024's Whomp layout) ^_^
Stuff you're saving for the new store, would they be on the webshop immediately aswell then? Because there's a ton of customers who don't live in the US and would love to buy some, including me.
When we are ready to open the new store, the site won't be active for a bit. Probably a week or 2, because we expect to be very busy with the grand opening.
I'll agree the placement was terrible but the sales being half was 1000% expected. Retro is doing much less. It's an election year and I know I went from spending thousands upon thousands on to just modern switch. Those must be factored in. But the placement in the back is wild
That has nothing to do with it. There's been many many very good cons this year. Including SEGE and Socal that broke records for sales. I did my best con ever in 20 years this year. PRGE screwed up making split vendor rooms for no reason.
That stinks you were placed in the back corner. As a mega booth, your booth along with the other mega booths should be front and center upon entering the vendor hall. I've emailed the Midwest Gaming Classic twice about requesting them to invite Double Jump. I didn't get a response back acknowledging they received it.
18:23 to add onto the expenses, loses, etc you also closed the store for the time of the convention so thats another big weight in the convention decision if things dont improve.
I thought you guys didn’t show up. I was looking for the big vendors and I asked around. So many people told me there were no vendors by the other doors so I didn’t even walk over there.
From the videos it looked sooooo quite compared to other expos and other years.I felt bad for you guys for putting so much overhead into it, staff hours, booth size etc. Especially knowing how important it is to you guys. Rise above ❤
They killed it with the 3 day and 2 day vendor rooms with the long hours. I had a feeling it would be bad when they announced that at last years con so I just skipped it.
It seemed like the organisers didn’t even care about vendors at all. It seemed like they just wanted the money for the space and then didn’t care about anything. How can you have one of the biggest gaming stores at the back and with your internet presence it’s insane
Considering the cost, time it takes to pack up your store, along with the time that your website and store is closed honestly it should be worth your effort. From what I did see this year with PRGE I don't know if I would say that it is. One of the things that I noticed during your videos on it was how they were treating you with simple things - like having not enough chairs for your employees to sit on and charging you an arm and a leg for extra chairs. That should be part of their vendor pass. One chair per person. Whether you add extra chairs is up to you, but they should provide somewhere to sit. I know in the grand scheme of things this issue is pretty minor but if they can't make sure that a big booth has enough chairs for the workers there then how are they going to make sure that you are placed in a prominent location? It just doesn't make sense.
Bro you have some SIC ass Vinyl there I was looking away for a sec and heard Murderdolls and had to rewind to see which album it was and then seen the $74.99 price tag and my heart sank cause I don't have that much to drop on it. Then I seen the Iowa album and the Slayer album and thought those I could afford lol. BTW I'm a HUGE JOEY JORDISON FAN.
If you think Portland is the best, you haven't been to Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, WI. It's the biggest and the best by a long shot both as an attendee and as vendor.
@@DoubleJumpVideoGames I think you would enjoy it from a vendor perspective. I know it's half way across the country, but it's a good one to reach out and connect with. It rivals Portland for largest one in the country both in terms of attendance, size, vendor hall, etc.
Prg video was just disappointing overall. I get it you run a booth but having someone swallow their mic half the video is not watchable. I don’t need random commentary. You’re at a convention, show the convention, plain and simple.
We showed plenty of the convention. The video is like 46 minutes long. Making a video is also the last thing on the list or priorities that weekend, so without the help of everyone else, there would be no video at all.
The booth layout wasn't ideal, but it was also like going to the store. 6 or 7 employees hanging out behind the counter. Yes, I get asked if I need help, but that's about it. Only once has someone looked at what I was buying (you) and gone that extra mile and said, " Well, if you like those, you might want to try these." Boom $500 sale. Look, i have a retro game problem, and double jump is my main source. I want you to make lots of money and be successful. It's just odd going in, all the employees are back in their section having a great time, laughing, talking, and it feels awkward to hear it all stop and if i need something then go back to ignoring my existence. No one at your booth even said anything to me when I was there. Had 2 grand in my pocket.
I would love to talk to every customer but that’s impossible at the convention unfortunately. It’s also weird to repeat the same things thousands of times over the weekend. I try to mix it up a bit but focusing on anything other than just trying to stay sane is difficult at a show like Portland. My people definitely could have put more focus on the customers, but everyone was trying to get to know Nathan, and we have some out of town friends who help us, so i understand wanting to catch up with them since it’s the one time a year we see some of them.
@DoubleJumpVideoGames look your people do a decent job. I have some really good experiences with them as well. It's never all doom and gloom. They mean well, and they are happy to work there, which is super important. You guys are growing, which is super exciting. I can't wait to see the new store!
The layout of your booth was not ideal. It was very hard to browse games with the plushie walls breaking up the area.
We could have had the same layout without those grid pieces in between the tables, but it would result in a lot less space for us to use
Good feedback 👍

Sorry to hear about the poor sales at PRGE. Hopefully the organizers listen and make the necessary improvements.

The person who designed the hats is Lilineko! They have an Etsy at least, and getting more hats to sell in store would be really REALLY cool

Best part of the day is when DJVG uploads!
Hey it’s my order😎 can’t wait for it!
SING THE SORROW!! 😍😍
The chair rental situation was ridiculous.
Looks like placement was not optimal! I hope next year is better. Nice things bought from PRGE! Silent Hill 2 (I am currently playing that one).
Ride the Lightning = best Metallica album by far.

Odd question to ask, but what type of tv is the red one that you use to test consoles with????
Here it is! www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/seiki-brings-back-classic-retro-style-with-its-retro-design-hdtv-223901031.html
Does anyone know how much the pokemon hats were?
Hi I bought one they ranged in price depending on the detail but the Eevee Evolution hat I got was just under 40 bucks.
Magikarp one was $60 or $65 I think Ryan said

Great pricing on those records. The turnstile album is facing backwards tooooo.
I don’t blame you
Pay premium price you deserve premium placement . 100% valid cooper .
I bet that Metal gear is gonna look great on an analogue pocket!

That ninja turtles story book wow that’s some nastalgia. I had a set of those
I’m disappointed I didn’t make it to prge this year 😢
I bought my super vip to torg just 3 weeks away. To bad you won't be there love to meet you
Type O Negative 🔥Turnstile 🔥
Type O Negative 👍
Type O Negative 👍
No it's not, Master of puppets is the best!!!!
All those vinyls are amazing I'd buy all of them haha. Wu tang forever
i think that giving the smaller sellers a chance in the front is good.
I will contact the one in London to invite you lol.
Would be crazy if they did lol
PRGE is just too far and expensive for your boy but Im waiting for you all to come to CALI so I can pay a visit pun intended.
Here for the usual great vlogs, but I stuck around for the Iced Earth hate hahah.
It's ridiculous you guys had such a terrible spot. I hope that they'll listen to the vendors
How many vendors are Portland expo what is biggest expo in America I wish I had one Michigan I have to go to ohio go too one
300+ vendors. I don’t know the exact amount
I thought you guys didn’t show up. I was looking for the big vendors and I asked around. So many people told me there were no vendors by the other doors so I didn’t even walk over there.
So cal next year is a must for you guys in think
13:43 Who'd you get the Z sword from Ryan!?!? 😂
I didn't go this yeae because i already spent all my play money
People just don't have the disposable income right now things are tight for most.
Prge is kinda expensive to attend

Same here, stopped watching pretty early on because of the mic deepthroating.
just because you didnt sell enough (aka weren't competitive enough vs other vendors) doesnt mean you need to blame PRGE.... step it up
yes. Every single vendor I talked to was disappointed simply because they weren't competitive enough. get a grip
