In this thrift flip I DIY a sustainable skirt and top using the inspiration of some not-so-sustainable companies. I thrift flip a Brandy Melville inspired skirt from oversized plaid work pants and a Princess Polly inspired milkmaid tank top from a plain silk top. With all the extra time we have nowadays, dig deep in the back of your closet and DIY those old thrifted clothes so you come out of quarantine with a whole new wardrobe.
Exact measurements of the top
--- bottom piece 30" by 5" (cut in half)
--- top piece 35' by 6' (cut in half) // one half ruched (front of shirt)

For the 'ruffling' top technique, you only pull one thread. NOT both, it's easier that way, trust me.

Can you do a thrift flip but handsew edition? I dont have a sewing machine and dont really know how to handsew but i want to flip some things
alexi andrea moya i just did a DIY series with some hand sewing hacks but i’ll definitely do a complete thrift flip with just hand sewing! good idea :)
You can use fabric glue it works just the same .
love love love this! just a tip for getting really nice crisp hems: you can iron them flat first and then pin, this especially helps when the fabric is lighter (like a silk/satin). It also makes it way easier to get through the machine. I definitely recommend you check out withwendy ‘s channel if you haven’t heard of her before, I think you’d love her stuff! ♥️

absolutely loved this! just one tip! iron your fabric before cutting your pieces/sewing so you’ll have a more smooth fabric in the end
Also iron all your seams as you go and don't forget to zig-zag those edges :D

for the top, you could make it a lace up so its you dont have to tie so many strings (i really like the bows though! they look super dainty) if you make a squiggly line out of a ribbon along one side of the top and stitch down and repeat on the other side, if you lace ribbon through the loops you'll have a lace up! i hope that made sense?

what model/type is your sewing machine? im interested in buying one but i dont know which one is better for beginners and is more efficiently? love ur content 🥺💖
tbh just buy one second-hand (a good brand like Brother, Elna or Singer idk), also you don't need a lot of stiches as long as you have straight/zig-zag/buttons holes it is good.
