The only way to get better at sewing is to just keep practicing. Keep with it and you’ll improve! Sewing tip: to keep hems even, use way more pins than you think you need, especially when you’re learning. Also! Ironing and pressing seams and hems makes everything look way more professional. Never underestimate the magic of an iron lol
Oh and btw if you don’t have an iron, you can press hems using a flat iron just as a quick fix. However, I would still recommend investing in an iron and an ironing board if you want to continue sewing :)
these are so cute!! the reason that the elastic might have been too loose because the straight stitch you initially did made it stay stretched out, doing only a zigzag stitch will secure it to the fabric but will still allow it to snap back and un-stretch if that makes sense lol
i think to make tiny straps you can fold the fabric into the middle, then fold that in half and just run a stitch on top. the stitch will be visible but you'll have a tiny strap without having to turn it inside out!
With thin straps just use an iron to fold the edges in 1/8 in and then fold the rest in half (right sides out) and sew. Then you don’t have to flip it!! 💕
Next time use a walking foot when sewing knits. I find a standard foor stretches out the knit fabric, especially when it's ribbed like what you were working with. It should help prevent any stretching, and keep the original shape you imagined.
To make small straps either make them bigger so you can flip them or just sew on the right side by tucking in the edges! Another thing you can do is buy thin elastic that looks like a tube in matching color (not sure if they have a name). Nice vid btw💖

A loop turner for skinny straps is life changing. It is the only thing that works for me. I even cant do the safety pin method that well.
