- Hi there! In this video, I attempt to sew my very first piece of clothing. I thrifted a maxi skirt, which I will use to sew a new dress by copying the pattern of a Reformation dress I already own. To me, the thought of sewing has always been daunting, but I feel like I've demystified the process by just throwing myself into this project. A major source of inspiration for me has been the talented Wendy from withwendy ( / withwendy . She made a video explaining how to clone your clothes: • How to Make Patterns f...

That yellow floral fabric is a liberty cotton. It's a really good quality cotton.
Pro tip: sew the straps in between the lining and and the cotton when assembling them. That way the stitch is hidden.
Really good job though!
That's a really great thrifted item then! How can you tell if something is a liberty cotton?
@@JuniperBronze liberty of London is known for their micro floral prints. So maybe she recognized the specific one?
It's truly impressive. Please do more thrift flip videos and sewing tutorials, you're really so good at it! And your voice is really so clear and calming, I love it.
Wow thank you❤️ I’ll have a new one soon!
PLEASE DO MORE THIS WAS AMAZING!! I feel very inspired to thrift flip clothing instead of just contributing to fast fashion which is ultimately contributing to global warming (sry this was long)
not to mention fast fashion is super unethical!
How are you learning how to sew? This is amazing...as a fashion student I cant do half of what you did, truly amazed
Well, a lot I've learned from watching my mom sew and sewing smaller things myself :)
@@bellablow4287 I can design, draw, make patterns; I'm just really bad at sewing
NatsBones relatable hahaha. At fashion school I feel like I’ve learnt how to design cool clothes but haven’t got a clue how to make em’
@@natsbones I'm the opposite 😂
Where's Ashley from bestdressed...
on her way to NY probably =) ;)
Yara Lucas cmon stop shading
What's the tea?
Girls! They aren't shading ashley! Its just that Ashley is obssessed at reformation's clothes, she loves them so much! and this vid can help ashley to cure that obssesion maybe haha without spending too much money!
Hi, did you say this was your First time making a garment?! This looks AMAZING!!
One of the clearest sewing tutorials I have ever seen! I truly feel like if I attempted this myself I wouldn't be a complete failure! And that dress! It looked amazing, great job and great eye for potential! ☺️
Your hair is so gorgeous!!
Impressive! I can't believe that was your first time! And withwendy is truly amazing she is my fav
prettier than the original.
Just stumbled on your channel and am loving your videos. As a sewing teacher, I love what you’ve done! I often recommend the same book to those new to sewing clothing. It’s just a personal favorite and great for people who want to make patterns and use salvage material from thrifted items. It’s “Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified” by Cal Patch if you want to look it up. I’m not affiliated with the author, I just love it as an instructor.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to look it up😊
Next time, use the zipper foot attachment. You will have better results.
Very impressive ! I don't think i'd ever have the skill and patience to do something like that ;)
oh my goodness. i hate zippers and i totally relate with results and the process of sewing a zipper! 😂
It is INSANE that this is your first garment that you’ve sewn! It turned out incredibly 👏🏻👏🏻
What's the last music called?? around 7.50
This looks so cute! I just bought a sewing machine, I'm going to try this with an old maxi skirt of mine!
you go girl with that gryffindor shirt! beautiful results!
you're amazing and so resourceful! i've been looking at Reformation dresses and while i plan to grab something, i'm also looking forward to learning how to make my own.
your dress looks so well constructed, and the yellow is lovely on you! i also appreciate your views on sustainability :)
subscribed!! please make more of these kinds of videos :D
I’m so glad you liked it! It’s something I’m very passionate about so your comment really means alot❤️
This video was in my recommendations. The second you started talking I thought you sounded danish (the accent, I guess?). Then I saw the furniture/living space and again I thought it looked super danish. Then I checked and as far as I can tell you're from Denmark... Hahaha. I liked the video! :D
Such a lovely dress, it makes me want to get back into sewing again :)
Aw this dress looks so good on you! I'd love to see more videos like this one😊
Aw thank you! I had so much fun doing this so I definitely will make more😊
does anyone has a pattern that looks like that one since i dont have a ref dress or anything that looks like it?
The pattern is from Liberty. You can buy directly from fabric suppliers by searching Liberty Fabric or look at thrift shops and second hand websites/apps for old liberty print garments. Hope that helps you.
As for a dress pattern, the reformation dress is a sundress so that would be a pattern to look for. It is fairly easy to follow the pattern shapes in this video but if you struggle then this is a close pattern and others like this one linked should help. Just adjust to suit, i.e remove button and pockets, and add a few inches to centre of the bust to create a more 'straight' neckline.

This was awesome! If you're interesting of doing more of these, I recommend watching Annika Victoria. She's the reason I started sewing actual clothing.
Yeah I watch her too, she’s so talented!
You did a really good job and I may be just overestimating but it looked in some parts that your fabric was bunching and that your thread appeared very prominent, almost 3-D. If you ran your finger along it and it felt super rigid or just that you noticeably felt it under your finger at all, or if the holes/bobbin thread were prominent from the other side, I would check your tension. Bad tension, either too high or too low, can lead to issues like these. If you didn’t have that issue then this is a tip for the future!
Hey. This is such a lovely video. Thank you...I've rewatched it twice in a bid to prepare for my own thrift flip.
I have a few questions:
1. What lining fabric did you use?
2. Which store did you get it from and do they sell online?
You make this look so easy argh 😫😭
I ruined 3 sewing machines in one evening at a sewing club
Haha thanks, but trust me - it wasn’t😅 That’s actually pretty impressive😂
the fact that this is your first try at making clothes is so impressive! great job!
I love your hair 😍😍
i love the way how the dress turned out, you have a beautiful body and hair girl! simply loved everything
wow thank you so much
like ur hair😻😻😻
Well done for your first garment! That was really impressive. Love the care you take for the finishes. I never handsewed anything on my first projects 😅 zippers take a bit of practice but there are great tutorials. Also I think you have a concealed zipper there, which works best with a special foot. If you don't want visible stitching on the outside of the top you can understitch instead. That works very well. Intrigued to see what you do next!
Wow!
for someone who has no experience you did super amazing
very interesting idea💡😍Always share it👏😊
Convertendo o valor um vestido da reformation no BR sai a mil reais ou mais..
This dress so plain lmao they really overpriced it’s not that hard to make

Yes these are so cute 🥰 I just uploaded a Bermuda shorts thrift flip on my channel 😍
zipper foot!
your hair is fantastic :)
I've been watching a lot of DIY/Reformation of clothes video, hoping I could make one for mine, one day. As for the first attempt, yours looks very nice and impressive, I have to say! Also you gave me little more courage to do it. Thank you! ( Also, you have very pretty voice 😊)
Wow thank you😊
Super cute! You and the dress 🦋
This my first seeing your channel and I already love you sis
You did a beautiful job! I’d recommend binding or finishing any exposed seams (especially at the waist) with bias tape or seam binding to help it last even longer :)
Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind😊
This is amazing!! Could you try to recreate one of the sets from a brand called 'Babcia the Label' or any other clothing pieces that look similar?
Obsessed with how it turned out, 💛
Yeah another vid 🙋♀
I loved the design of your dress but don't have a matching dress to use for measurements ☹️
Your HAIR 😍😍😍 oh my
OMG UR VOICE IS SO QUIET AND CALMING
Amazing job!!!! Love the fabric and how good this dress turned out
You made that girl!! It’s so cute!!
It came out great , if i was you ,iwoukd continue, it beautiful
ECQ brought me here. This is so cool 😍
The dress is really cute 🥰 I would highly recommend that you buy an invisible zipper foot for your machine. It’s a game changer. 😊
Amazing!!! Better than the green dress even!!!
I would be making my own dresses like this, but sadly my sewing machine has broken. I've always loved to sew so now that I can't, makes me very disappointed. Though I love watching videos like this! Great job! I loved the little montage at the end, it was very sweet! Thank you, for cutting down on climate change, and I hope you keep doing this!
The zipper is actually really good considering you didn’t have a zipper foot 👏🏼
I want to try this! I would love to see more videos like this one!
LOVE YOUR CURLS
I love this!! You did so well! And this reaction to your zipper is hilarious, I absolutely did the same with the first zipper I sewed 😂
i adore this, please make more!! ur inspiring me to flip some items from my closet :)
Same here... Please do make more such videos.. Just loved the way you made those straps..
Omgggg you did such a good job considering this was your first time! Such a meticulous eye to detail!!
i love how the dress came out! i was just wondering where you got the original green dress?
It’s from Reformation😊
Where the sewing machine came from
You have beautiful hair.
Hoooow hooow can you be so talented??? 🤩🤩🤩🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
my brain cannot comprehend flipping the straps inside out. D:

You're an inspiration!! I love your "go for it" attitude!!!
You inspired me 🧠🧠

Hi! you're truly impressive!! I'm so motivated because I also want to sew my own dress using also my old skirt but I don't have a pattern to follow but maybe this video of yours, gave me ideas! Thank you!!

Nice job! It seems you know exactly what you're doing.
So great! You did good, girl!!

It really doesn’t get any more fair trade than doing it yourself ❤️
Gorgeous!!!
Song name??
hey girl what sewing machine do you have ?
i’m looking to buy one and was wondering if you would recommend it!
I wouldn’t really recommend the one I have, as I think it is at least 30 years old😅 I’m on the lookout too, but try and check out withwendy’s video, I think she has a few recommendations😊
Amanda Wright okay! Thank you so much for the input! i will check her video out !
You.... you spent 200$ on that dress?
Finally I thought I was the only one who thought that was an outrageous price
So pretty
Brilliant
