I just published a video on Helldivers 2. Let me know what you think: ua-cam.com/video/-Bz2sDZtkSo/v-deo.html
I never expected Clayton "Redacted" Morris to review JRPGS
Exactly my thoughts! And he's reviewing Ys series too, the hidden gem of the genre, at least around here.
ikr? I knew him from videos on the Ukraine war and American politics, then I found this channel and was like wtf?!
I know! Truly, an amazing discovery 💚
He was on Fox News for years too.
Never underestimate the cool factor of Gen X.
We grew up during the birth of the video game era, and it became a beloved hobby for many of us.
Origins is such a underrated game in the series from the PSP. Good choice for 2024!
Origin wasn't on the psp.
1&2, 6, 7 and Felghana were.
Omg, I had no idea you had a gaming/tech channel! This is such a mind blow.. I watch Redacted all the time and this one video pops up in my feed. It threw me off a second lol 😅
Yeah I thought it was a joke at first but that's awesome! I have yet to complete a game this year 😅
Clayton, I’ve been subscribed to Redacted for a while. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought you’re a gamer. This is phenomenal. Subscribed here as well.
Gaming used to be a great break from life. Until it became what it is now. There are still great games, you just have to dig. Games like tactics ogre are timeless.
Tactics Ogre is on my backlog.
@@ClaytonMorris Same. Japanese games haven't been corrupted that much by the woke crap yet. Hopefully, they can keep their style.
I'm now 68 and I'm a gamer with hubby...i don't think there's a system we haven't played on...(we do work too LOL)...try Xenoblade Chronicles series...you'll love it!
I never knew you liked gaming 😅👍🏻
What!? I been subscribed to redacted and just now seeing this channel. Mind blown...
Did not see that one coming. Did not expect to like it that much.
Great game
I love Ys series.
I am currently playing Ys Lacrimosa of Dana on the PS5.
It, like the rest in the Ys series, has memorable music.
If you are a fan of vgame music, check out the soundtrack for Axelay, an SNES shooter with, imo, the best soundtrack for an SNES game rivaling that of Super Castlevania IV.
Ys Origins is actually the Start of the Ys Series iirc, so it worked out for you.
Nostalgia, especially once you sampled that music... GReAT STuFF!
You should get a Mister FPGA.
It's awesome that you play video games. Im waiting for a Parasite Eve remake for the ps5/switch.
Amazingly i have the Y's series on my turbo CD but never fully finished them. As a collector I have so many other games to play and experience that this series just keeps getting pushed back. Currently playing Doom eternal on my new X box series x. I am also playing the Dead Space series on my series x. I finished Dead Space one and two and starting three. The series x really does a great job upscaling and increasing frame rate for older games it supports.
I'm almost halfway through Ys Book 1 & 2 this week. Such a great game. Music is astonishing.
love it Clayton!
Thanks for doing this channel man, much respect!
I appreciate that!
I was one of the few American kids that had a Turbografx-16 and the CD add on to play Ys Book 1 and Book 2. In 1990 its music was better than anything ever in videogames before it, it even had a few cutscenes, voice acting (Thomas Haden Church was one of them, he played Sandman in Spiderman 3 FYI). Then Ys 3 Wanderers from Ys which was later remade as Ys Oath in Felgheina many years later. One f my favorite series. Ys Memories from Celeceta is a hodgepodge of two different Japanese only versions of Ys 4 as a remake.
Ys 1 had the best music by far, but I'm not sure if it was the best music or it was because it was the first game I played Ys the vanished omens on sega master system.
Either way, I purchased the Mp3's from Amazon and listen to the music even when not playing in my video games music collection.
But Ys1 music was so good. I don't really like the other Ys music though, but I never played the game.
That's awesome. I'm currently half way through Ys Book 1 and 2 and the music is astonishing. The cut scenes are so much fun and I was trying to picture 12 year old me watching them. I mean I was a huge Dragon Warrior fan and if suddenly a cut scene like that appeared I would have been floored.
@@ClaytonMorris yup, that was my youth. Also fun fact, the last boss to Ys1 is Dark Fact that for some unexplained reason can only be hurt by silver, he is a descendant of Hugo Fact from Ys Origin. Last boss to Ys 2 is Darm, Darm Tower is in Ys Origin and Ys 1.
Hi I'm a puppy
My favorite is The Oath in Felghana. Especially the soundtrack (like in all YS games) which is full of bangers!
Unexpected lol. Love it. Adventure rps’s are awesome. Didn’t know Clayton was a gamer.
Can't believe you play these kinds of games.
I just finished them all except Oath of Falgana.
The platform in this game is crazy.
I can't get through jumping from platform to platform, while enemies shoot at you.
Now i wait for YS 10.
Ys 1 and 2 were my childhood games.
Ys 8 is super good.
I advice you to buy them on PC.
Hey Clayton. I played Y’s Origins on the Vita and enjoyed it. Memories of Calceta is a good one too. Btw, I love Redacted.
Thanks so much.
Ys IV Dawn of Ys is a classic
I really like that Clayton Morris likes gaming and that he enjoyed this title, Redacted is very good, so with out doing my usual research i bought this game. Now i like zelda, but not really liked the jrpgs, i thought i would like this, i need a 2d zelda. The intro to this game is awful, in french with a Polish accent, now i can for give a game that. But its turn based combat errr... i should have done my research, i dont like this game, but reading the comments im very pleased so many do.
It’s not turn based. The Ys series is not turn based.
@@ClaytonMorris stoked to get a reply, Clayton is a Star, big fan, it depends.. I have to wait to attack , while an enemy makes a movement , I'm sure this is ordinary sprite movement in jrpgs. Anyways look forward to more game reviews, keep up the good work and keep so very safe in these unusual times. I think of Gonzalo lira, Julian Assange, Alex Belfield. We need voices like yours.
Interesting. I'll have to give it a shot!
I like to play ys 1 and 2. But origin was funny game.
I had no idea you had a gaming channel until I saw this on my feed, 'Ys Origins' no less. I fully completed the game long ago and still remains one my favorites in the lineup despite it being an 'origins' story. Though it also surprised me that quite a number of your viewers have also been exposed to the Ys franchise too.
Guidance of a White tower, Scars of the Divine wing, and Memory of Salmon are three of my top soundtracks from the game. I'm currently playing Persona 5 as well finishing up a visual novel (Fatal Twelve) in my spare time.
Insta subscribed, no brainer move from me.
Cheers from Australia.
The 51st like right here! Thank you CLAY!! You absolutely ROCK !!!
Well played
HAHA - i like how you stated that at one point you tried to just leave the tower... nice review Sir!
Yeah I was like I need a breather let me out of the tower. 🤣
Played and beat this game (completely) a few years ago. A bit repetitive but still fun to play.
I am big fan of YS games. i think i have played them all since the Super Nintendo and Sega genesis days. I am Currently playing YS IX Monstrum Nox 😀
How do you like it? I have that on my backlog for PS5.
@@ClaytonMorris I like it. you get to play as Adol Christin in the city of Balduq which is meant to be a Paris inspired city. i haven't beaten the game yet,but so far i am having fun with it.
Just wanted to say that seeing you play these older games got me into retro gaming recently, I want to break out my old SNES, Genesis, systems and hook them up. I also want to get a CRT TV as I heard this makes the games look much better.
That's amazing! You gotta tell me what kind of CRT you get. If you can't find a CRT you might find using the RetroTink 4k gives you some amazing CRT look. Plus it'll upscale your old SNES and Genesis to 4K.
I have this game, but never played it. I‘m buying way too many games that wait to be played one day. 😅 I just finished another game which I didn‘t expect to be so good: Master Detective Archives Rain Code. A hidden gem! Great story, great game design, unique characters. A cute collector’s edition.
Man, i bought this and havent touched it yet. I really should.
Next play Ys The Oath in Felghana (ys3 remake) and Ys Memories of Celceta (ys 4 remake)
Hi Clayton! It's me again)).
Noice! I have 5 copies of this game on my Switch! All with different covers. :D Haven't played Origins yet but like I said last time, I'm playing Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana.
GROVER!!!!! He must be about to turn 4-years-old any day now! When I started watching Morris Invest/Morning Invest/Redacted, Grover was two and a half months old! :P
Wow! Yes he's about to turn 4 this week. I can't believe it. Thanks for watching. Really appreciate that.
@@ClaytonMorris I haven't missed a single show!
YS origin is one of my favourite games! Great simplicity and it the gameplay just feels good! Great game 🦾
...Edit for spelling...
did somebody say Ys?, it's mind-blowing there's no proper Ys Collection from the famicom to Super Famicom games (from Ys 1 to 5) on modern consoles like Switch,PS4/PS5 and XBOX.
Yes! Great point.
Never tried this series. My last full RPG playthrough was Final Fantasy X😮😮😮...Actually it was Child of Light published by Ubisoft. Really enjoyed that one.
The original PCE games are masterpieces! The soundtrack, art and simple gameplay are perfect. Nice to hear the new one is also good. Hopefully not "woke".
Yeah this game was released in 2006 and there's nothing woke about it.
that's what makes me disappointed with the modern remakes, there's always some "woke" element going on that ruins things.
My favourite series of rpgs. Oath in Felgana is in my opinion the best from the ones using this engine
Sorry, but is this on the switch? Looks good. Keep it coming! Loving the content!
It's on quite a few systems. PC, Switch, PSVita, PS4 and Xbox One. I think also backwards compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.
Yes it is!
I didn’t know Ys Origin was on Switch
Yes.
You should get a MiSTer! You'll never look back.
Yeah it’s on my list this year.
@@ClaytonMorris great!! Love the channel. I'm fan of your other work so was very pleased to see you're into retro! Keep up the great work.
Looks great, thanks for sharing! Have you consider playing Gothic on the switch? It's a fantastic RPG from the early 2000s, I think it wasn't very know game in the states, but it really help making RPGs what they are today.
The environment and music just really gets you, supper immersive.
They did upgrade some features for the switch, and hopefully they will release the sequel as well. But they are in the process of creating a new modern remake of the game. Hope you enjoy that!
I'll check it out!
Wow, didn't expect you to ever play this game or even this series. And you even beat all 3 stories. Toal's story is considered the canon... which also makes me a bit sad since I quite liked the idea of adorable Yunica taking on some bosses. This is one of my favourite Ys games, the other 2 in my top 3 would be Oath in Felghana and Lacrimosa of Dana.
Might be good to keep in mind that the modern Ys games have been made much easier. Might be best to start them on the hard mode since you'll need to do at least some parrying and dodging, on the normal difficulty the modern games don't really go much beyond button mashing to win. Speaking about difficulty, the combat of Ys games tends to shine when played on harder difficulties. You'll really need to learn the boss patterns, a lot of the depth from the combat doesn't come from the combos, but from movement, positioning and timing. And on normal mode you can sadly tank through quite a bit, even in Ys Origin (but not in Oath in Felghana, I think the normal mode in that game is probably comparable to the hard mode in Origin, which also is relatively challenging).
Well, have fun with the rest of your Ys journey. In terms of story I think Lacrimosa of Dana has the best one in the series, but it takes a while to really get going. But Toal's story from Origin ranks 2nd for me. Still I think most of the Ys stories are perfectly enjoyable for what they are. You're just an adventurer and do everything that comes with it. While most of the stories don't stand out, they're not bad either. It's basically like watching a classic adventure movie.
By the way, another fun little game made by Falcom is Gurumin. I think it's only been released on PC, Nintendo 3DS and PSP. It looks a bit childish and the plot is childish as well, but the dialogue is pretty, the music is fantastic and very varied and the gameplay is just fun action-RPG dungeon crawling.
I can't wait to play Lacrimosa of Dana. I bought it on the PS5. I might have to play it on hard mode! Thanks for the great tips.
Good stuff, ive never played any of the ys series. I'm looking forward to skull and bones, a new pirate game that I think just dropped. Is that a Portuguese forest behind you? Your dog is a handsome booger
Yep that's a Portuguese forest in Sintra mountains.
@@ClaytonMorris that's awesome, I'm from the pine wood forests of East texas, weve got land on the edge of the Davy crocket national forest.
Ys looks good, but I might want to start from the og Ys as a proper retro gamer should. Just got back from Best Buy with Callisto Protocol, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Dead Island 2 and Avatar for the PS5.
I just replayed the Ys 1 vanished omens on sega, was really fun. I never could beat it when I was a kid, and couldn't when I got older. There are a couple of impossible things to figure out on Ys 1 though, or at least I could not figure out how to beat the last boss.
Well not sure if you saw my TurboGrafx mini video but I started with Ys Book I & II and the the device blew up, so I jumped over to Ys Origin. However now I've got the Turbo CD version of Ys Book 1 and 2 playing on my Analogue Duo and I'm about halfway through it. Such a great game.
Where in s Carolina are u filming?
Portugal.
Sure fooled me. I thought it was south Carolina for sure. It's beautiful
Have you played Skyrim?
Sadly I haven’t.
Hi I'm a puppy
I am a big rpgfan! I am shock you play jrpgs. And i love the ys series. Its sad now cause i dont have time to play games anymore because im trying to be financially free. This system is rigged for you to be a slave to the workforce.
