If you can handle listening to the rest of this, I'd like to hear it. The woman that asked questions made this guy straight up panic. Showing someone some art, you want to put in your game isn't showing someone the game. A picture of Pac-Man is not a demonstration of Pac-Man. How can he think he's shown people what she was clearly talking about?

Kira... I don't think you're getting it with this guy. It took me a while, but I think I figured it out. He IS showing you the game. You're looking right at it. Caspian is the game's NPC. He's roleplaying a game developer, and we're all here logging into his "game" not realizing we're already in his game. It's VERY meta. I can't say I've seen anything quite like it. It really blurs the lines between fantasy and reality in a new and creative way.

That doesn't sound like anyone who runs a business would do. The whole point of a business is to make money. caspian's reactions reminds me of a quote a lecturer in college told a friend when he asked to delay the deadline by a solid 24 hours by giving the excuse that he knows he can't deliver:
"Come rain or sunshine, come hell or heaven, you still need to deliver by the deadline. I don't care if its complete or incomplete, the most important thing is that you deliver."

I discovered your channel through your coverage of this CoE debacle, and I could and would watch several more hours worth of this AMA alone. Sound only video does not detract from the content for me since I actually generally listen to your vids as if they were podcasts while I’m gaming. I’d like to finish this out in one more video, however long it may be, if you still find this as fascinating as I do (and as long as the algorithm continues to play nice/be beneficial for you- new vids from you tend to find themselves at the top of my feed and hopefully that’s true for most of us here). Thanks for posting this part 2

I’ve briefly worked for people, who had grand ideas that it quickly became obvious that they had no ability to pull off. Those people will be so charismatic about their project that they pull in tons of others who work for free and put in their own money. The fall out is catastrophic, I’ve seen them get death threats too and taken to court. Being a big dreamer is great, but the dream is 1%, the rest is hard work and the ability to delegate.

You know, I think that if the CoE actually released, I never would have gotten so much joy out of it, as I am getting from these videos. It's like a never ending comedy, where Mr. Caspian tries to explain how he spent 8mil USD, developing a game nobody has seen and will never see, despite claiming to have it close to a finish line.

This was so eye opening, and the lady asking those straightforward questions was amazing to hear. In the past I have watched your earliest videos on CoE, along with videos from others such as the Salt Factory, and up until today I was still under the impression that this whole thing was a scam, that it wasn't just stupidity. Now I believe it was, but in truth it doesn't change my opinion that people like Caspian must be held accountable. Similar principle to not knowing the law doesn't exempt one from it. I also began feeling like he's a tragic figure, and perhaps suffering from some sort of mental illness. I honestly feel bad for his family, his kid especially, to have a father like Caspian. I'll definitely watch the next part as well, thank you for covering this for years now Kira!

I don't know what it is about these videos that keeps me coming back. It honestly feels akin to a guilty pleasure trash reality tv show. Re-runs of it for that matter since its always the same loop of "Here's the roadmap/milestone list!", deadline missed, edited roadmap with items from milestone 1 now in milestone 2, no real progression, fog of war problems.
I think what I enjoy about these videos from you is that its nice to feel like there's someone else in the room also having a "wtf is Caspian even saying" sort of moment lol. Like when the last "interviewer" who was asking banger questions started bringing up exactly the questions you were just talking about earlier, that feeling of "Awesome. this person gets it, Caspian sure doesn't, but this person, amazing"
Appreciate the video! From my end at least I get to hear you chime in and break up some of the Caspian thought dumps, but for you its mostly pure Caspian

PPP loans have specific requirements to apply for forgiveness. Recipients have to submit an application proving that they used the money for payroll & kept a qualifying number of employees in order to not have to pay it back.
Companies that do not meet those requirements have to pay PPP loans back, just like a regular loan. Using it for business expenses doesn't mean they used the money illegally per se, as long as they don't lie on the forgiveness application and actually pay it back

Jeremy is what you get if you combine together the following recipe: 1 Part Ego, 1 Part Incompetence, 1 Part Failure, and then 1 Part Coward. The coward part is the spice that holds it all together in his lack of ability to show off all this wonderful stuff he's so proud of. Until that happens, I can't believe or really care all that much he has to say otherwise. Also, it's getting too late now to really show off things. That ship has left port.

I live in the US in Washington (the state where his former office was in the city of Bellevue) and they did change the state laws about 5 years ago or longer where employers couldn’t offer non-paid internships anymore since it was being abused for free labor (because of course companies would). They can still offer internships and treat it like a part-time employee or I think you can earn credits toward graduating if you are going to college. I’m not sure if it is a federal law, but definitely in WA state he would have to compensate people that volunteered to work on his game. I’m not sure of the laws exactly, but I think this is what he is referring to when he talks about declining volunteer workers. He could still hire them on as independent contractors (Microsoft is notorious for doing this which is right down the road from him), but it’s evident he doesn’t want anyone seeing the state of the project.

Very senior developer here. I keep hearing how technically adept Caspian is, but he can't be. True devs like to code and show off their software. BS project managers with only reading knowledge of technologies like to read, blog and talk about options... but they don't have the skill or demeanor to actually implement anything. That describes this bloke perfectly. He knows what he's doing - a dev I used to work with would give endless updates on his progress for the previous day. It seemed the more words in his update, the less actual progress there was. I think it's a psychosis at this point. And I can't look away.

I had a job running a production line with about +/-20 people, and some of my peers would report every small useless detail to our managers, in order to appear as they've done more work. Realistically, they barely worked, most of their time was spent pretending to work, not following proper procedures to save time, and pump out more production. We were producing car parts, which I think should be taken seriously. As a result of me caring about quality, my line was often doing worse numbers-wise, so I got blamed for being bad at my job by peers and managers and I had to quit to save face. Keep in mind, that while my line was often a bit slower, we were producing a lot more usable product. The QC department was also a nightmare, half of them didn't even know the tolerances we were working with.
Out of every 1000 parts factory-wide, 40 to 60% were returned to us as faulty by our clients.
For comparison, out of every 1000 parts that got out of my line, only ~10% had any issues whatsoever, and it was mostly because of unskilled laborers, old imprecise machinery or defects in materials.
I consider 10% to be horrible but it was the best I could achieve with what I was given.
Was I annoying with my by the book approach? Sure, but we were producing car parts and I was hired to follow procedure. Ironically, following procedure and trying to release high-quality production both helped me rise through the ranks and ended my career.
People just don't care about doing a good job sometimes.

I really wish pre renders didn't exist. Kickstarter is mostly done now for huge game projects, thank fuck. But for people who just don't know how 3d graphics or games work in general behind the scenes, it's entirely understandable for them to see the original kickstarter video and think "Wow! This looks so cool!" not knowing you could basically just pay someone a few thousand to do that in blender and slap a watermark that says "proof of concept version 0.1" to make it look vaguely "gamey".
