This happened in the area I grew up in. Believe it or not they practice the “prosperity gospel”, where if you give money to the church you will “get rich”. The richer you are the more God loves you basically. So I can imagine many people of their church didn’t mind that the pastor was living a luxury lifestyle. They can literally blame God or Satan for anything they do and not take accountability.
It's basically an MLM except the product is a fantasy that God will magically put money in your bank account. We already know their God don't work like that cos there are children dying of cancer, being abused, and starving to death begging, crying to God for help, and God ain't even helping them, much less putting money in your account lol.

Both churches do community outreach, and I see the work they do. I always ensure I attend churches where their work is seen in the community. The last church I was a member of, tutored children, bought uniforms for the children, ensured they had schools supplies, had scholarship programs, and a bus ministry. They service an underprivileged community. Those are the type of churches I will always belong to. St. Jude’s is a ministry of healing. The children are treated for free, and they house the family during treatment.

It’s disheartening you’ve never met one who was walking upright. I’m blessed to have many people who are. Absolutely no one is perfect; however, the believers I align myself with, are those who read and study the Word for themselves. What may be occurring is, your expectations may not align with the reality of what a finite being is. Once I stop looking for perfection amongst humans, took a good long hard look at myself, and in solitude studied His Word, I became less judgmental, and sought to be as close to God as possible. As an atheist I won't go around asking christians, muslims or any other religion to question their god. However please if you are religious and your pastor, (or your imam, puja, elder, basically any 'leader') starts asking for money (or anything suspicious) please question their motives. The Bible says Believers should have discernment and not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” is a man/woman of God. However, just because a church is usually a tax exempt entity that does not mean lights, heat, repairs, food and giving ministries are free. My church gives out school supplies, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and toys, scholarships and countless other things as a normal practice AND in times of natural disasters in some places in the world. Some of you just don’t want to give anyway so you will use this as an excuse to not give the simple God-requested amount of 10%. You get to keep the 90%….He blessed you to have a job and receive raises, promotions and cost of living adjustments, but then you are baffled when things stop going your way or your prayers are not answered when you don’t tithe and other reasons/areas where you don’t obey come to pass. Eughh, these videos make me so glad that in my faith tradition, the church actually serves the community and helps those in need. I know quite a few people who are cultural Christians at best, but remain within the church, because they appreciate the things the church does to help people.
This is why I have a hard time with the idea of going back to church. I pray every morning and talk to God often, but to go to church? It’s too hard to think about. When I was a kid our poster cheated on his wife and crippled son and left his wife for her. As a teen, the friends family I went to church with, the father decided he was gay and left the marriage. So I was very confused to say the least. I found my way back about 18 years ago to a church who made you walk up in front of the congregation and put money in the plate. If you didn’t have it to give it would’ve been embarrassing! My husband at that time was involved in a serious accident and was hospitalized for a week and forced to stay home for months. NO ONE from the church came to offer support or help of any kind. Nothing. We barely kept the roof over our heads. So yeah it’s very hard for me to think about going back.

In Matthew 19:24, Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God." These pastors are not reflections of God's Word. In Luke 5:31-32 Jesus said, "They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." These pastors are sinners like all of us, and I hope they do genuinely repent. Church is a place of worship, but I think sometimes people worship the pastors rather than God, forgetting the pastors are human too. As Christians we need Bibe Study and can study the Word ourselves, so that we obtain spiritual discernment and can call out unrighteousness when we see it occur. Church is a place we come together, but it should not be the main source of our spiritual education

I'm sorry y'all, and I know some of you guys really try your best, but I have never...NEVER met a Christian or religious person who wasn't a hypocrite or living a life that wasn't completely in line with their religious beliefs. In my opinion, the only reason a pastor is able to con these people is because those people would do the same if they were in the same position. The reason why most of these people flock to the churches is because they're looking for a get rich quick scheme. It's like the most basic form of MLM, except MLMs selling real products are actually more believable. You go to church, pastor tells you to donate all your money so that God can make you rich, so you give all your money, but the pastor gets rich off your money while you stay broke. Have you Christians actually taken the time to sit down to read your Bible? To understand what you're making your kids read?

It’s disheartening you’ve never met one who was walking upright. I’m blessed to have many people who are. Absolutely no one is perfect; however, the believers I align myself with, are those who read and study the Word for themselves. What may be occurring is, your expectations may not align with the reality of what a finite being is. Once I stop looking for perfection amongst humans, took a good long hard look at myself, and in solitude studied His Word, I became less judgmental, and sought to be as close to God as possible. I don’t worry about what others are doing, unless what they’re doing is causing people to feel the way you do. Seriously, it’s disheartening to hear you feel this way.
Christians aren’t God. You aren’t supposed to look at other believers for an example. The doctrine says everyone is a sinner and perfection is impossible. And no one is supposed to judge another. That is Gods job. And their will be many false prophets

Word of advice to people wanting to join a church: go to protestant or catholic (not evangelical) churches; your pastor cannot be above criticism or have final say; and the congregation must be moderate in spirituality and progressive in philosophy.
But doesn't being progressive in Philosophy contradict the teachings in the Bible? I'm asking as an agnostic atheist because I've read the Bible through and through, and there are things in there that the Bible explicitly asks people to do that they ain't doing because they're trying to be "progressive". So please, explain to me how to be progressive for example as a married woman when the Bible tells you that you're your husband's property or being progressive and condemning slavery when the Bible condones it.

As an atheist I won't go around asking christians, muslims or any other religion to question their god. However please if you are religious and your pastor, (or your imam, puja, elder, basically any 'leader') starts asking for money (or anything suspicious) please question their motives. They are not your god and they are just as likely to be tempted by greed or 'sin' as anyone else.
I think many religious people don't like to question the pastor (or imam, etc) because they feel like that is questioning god. It's not.

The Bible says Believers should have discernment and not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” is a man/woman of God. However, just because a church is usually a tax exempt entity that does not mean lights, heat, repairs, food and giving ministries are free. My church gives out school supplies, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and toys, scholarships and countless other things as a normal practice AND in times of natural disasters in some places in the world. Some of you just don’t want to give anyway so you will use this as an excuse to not give the simple God-requested amount of 10%. You get to keep the 90%….He blessed you to have a job and receive raises, promotions and cost of living adjustments, but then you are baffled when things stop going your way or your prayers are not answered when you don’t tithe and other reasons/areas where you don’t obey come to pass. Search your heart AND your FAITH!

If one believes in a loving God, then that person would know God doesn’t want you to be homeless. Eughh, these videos make me so glad that in my faith tradition, the church actually serves the community and helps those in need. I know quite a few people who are cultural Christians at best, but remain within the church, because they appreciate the things the church does to help people.

This is why I have a hard time with the idea of going back to church. I pray every morning and talk to God often, but to go to church? It’s too hard to think about. When I was a kid our poster cheated on his wife and crippled son and left his wife for her. As a teen, the friends family I went to church with, the father decided he was gay and left the marriage. So I was very confused to say the least. I found my way back about 18 years ago to a church who made you walk up in front of the congregation and put money in the plate. If you didn’t have it to give it would’ve been embarrassing! My husband at that time was involved in a serious accident and was hospitalized for a week and forced to stay home for months. NO ONE from the church came to offer support or help of any kind. Nothing. We barely kept the roof over our heads. So yeah it’s very hard for me to think about going back.

In Matthew 19:24, Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God." These pastors are not reflections of God's Word. In Luke 5:31-32 Jesus said, "They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." These pastors are sinners like all of us, and I hope they do genuinely repent. Church is a place of worship, but I think sometimes people worship the pastors rather than God, forgetting the pastors are human too.
As Christians we need Bibe Study and can study the Word ourselves, so that we obtain spiritual discernment and can call out unrighteousness when we see it occur. Church is a place we come together, but it should not be the main source of our spiritual education
