Years ago the Family made Kraut and canned it. It was much better than most that could be purchased. It was a vinegar method that was very easy to make. Unfortunately, the recipe was lost over time and none of the recipes I've read online sound right. Moral of the story - Spread the good recipes around so maybe the shared recipe can return if your copy is lost.
canning fermented food kills the good bacteria. May taste good but no fermented benefit
My granny used vinegar would bring to boil add Salton top of kraut in jar pour vinegar into JAR TILL CABBAGE covered put on lid set in dark area for fermenting
Thank you for the reminder that 'perfect food comes from imperfect plants' . I'm dealing with someone who never had the chance to learn about growing food or even cooking it! The education about getting rid of the bad parts and working with the good is a lesson my friend needs to learn.
MAKE HULUPKI!! YUM. OUR FAVORITE SLOVAK DINNER. YOU'LL LOVE IT! BABY'S GETTING SO BIG. WHAT A DOLL!❤❤❤❤
I love seeing the little one he so happy love the giggles 😊
I heard somebody say that if you make a t cut cross on the stem you cut the cabbage from, more cabbages will begin to grow off of that stem.
I know what you mean. My first garden. I definitely didn’t want to touch anything… it was so beautiful. I was so proud of myself… I just wanted everyone to see it. But I did enjoy eating everything. 😂I love your videos. I’m so proud of you and your family union. Pammie from Chicago Illinois 😊
I used insect netting on the brassicas this year for the first time. I can't believe I didn't try is sooner. The cabbages were almost bug free . So much less work cleaning them up. The netting was a great investment . I just moved it over to the blueberries to keep the birds from eating half of them and it seems it will last me for years . Might be something for you guys to consider. And hey I have the same shirt. lol. People comment on it quite often.
Thanks for the suggestion!! That is awesome!
1 year my youngest got to take a portion of garden in exchange for him helping me in garden. We got 3 cuttings off cabbage. The 1st the heads were bigger than basketballs. 2nd were still nice size, 3rd heads were definitely smaller, but still tasty (son sold the 1st 2 cuttings). That year he also sold 3/4 the pear jelly (we added lace to the rings & ppl bought it up like crazy). Profits he bought candy bars & sold for big profit at school. An entrepreneur at 12
Ki is looking like a combination between Lacey and Micah right now. You can tell that Ki is a happy and healthy baby.
Hello all, I have a question. When are you going to be putting up the other Yurt?
😁Those are some HAPPY goats!!🐐
Love that your including the bloopers! They are so funny!
thankyou
🙋🏼♀️🕊. I was taught to salt the water 💦 it makes the dirt sink and draw out the 🐛 bugs. Good luck 🍀 Blessings to your family. 💞🕊🙋🏼♀️🍀🕊🍀
My absolute favorite meal is fried cabbage with bacon and onion. Some cornbread and soup beans on top of the corn bread. Yummy!
That cabbage crunch is so satisfying to hear 🙂
I would love some stuffed cabbage rolls.
I ferment my cabbage and veggies in jars with the brine method and love it. Just a couple table spoons with meals is so good and does the trick.
Thank you for showing this i love cabbage i usually fry it with smoked sausage, noodles, and corn bread but i love sourerkrout with a little brown sugar for the tartness lol and Lacie love your hair that way i was praying 🙏 for you to get better God Bless you and your Beautiful Family ❤
Micah is a big boy now. It wasn't to long ago he was playing in the dirt with his dump truck
Mike maybe try wrapping ur cabbage with big bug screens or netting letting photosynthesis take place while protecting your crops.
Try some cabbage fried in bacon grease with black pepper and salt (onion would go good in it too). Cut the cabbage into quarters, then cut the quarters into one inch strips, cut the strips into one inch squares. Break it up so the pieces don't stick together, fry on a low heat until it all wilts down and gets soft. I like a bit of crushed red pepper and some crispy bacon broken into one inch pieces added towards the end of cooking. Hope you like this.
Sarah love your hair cut! Sweet Hezzy is getting so big! Love cabbage with butter! ❤
Yay!!! Great clip!! You inspired me to go and do my first fermentation!I even have my grandmother's cabbage slicer! It took us forever to figure out what it is for. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a crock lid. It must have broken after all thses years!! Keep on doing what you're doing and teaching those sweet babies and us too the things being forgotten! Thank you!!
Man, I have not seen you guys in a while. Congratulations on the baby!!
Thank you FIT FARMER .
Hello brother Fit Farmer awesome job God Bless you and your family
When I go on my cabbage kick I pickle and make a large batch of cabbage rolls
Time passes so fast . What a beautiful baby. I have not had much success with cabbage. Bugs take over . Yours look nice
Darn UA-cam i haven't seen you guys for a long time thanks to all their stupid things they do mixing everybody up.
Glad to see your family again.
Just wondering when you going put that other yurt up? Can't wait see it all put together?! I'm sure you all could use extra space!❤
Working on it!
I have started growing cabbge from the stem from a store bought cabbage!
You've inspired me to get a fermenting jar 👌. The chickens also LOVE cabbage. I hang a whole cabbage up under the trees for my hens and they spend days pecking at it.
Beautiful cabbages. !!!❤
Thanks. That crock looks like a nice way to make kraut. I've done it in jars. Nothing better than eating your own grown and preserved food. God bless you and your beautiful family.
Selah was such a cute toddler! 🙂
That was some happy goats at the end 😊
Nothing is more satisfying than a good crop
Great Asmr video love the sounds of the cabbage!
That's one humongous urn of cabbage/sauerkraut !!!!!
What a beautiful harvest of cabbages, that are bearing the evidence of def being organically grown !!!! You'll never get that many grubs slugs & worms enjoying your produce when it's treated with pesticides !!!!!
A simple hose off or water bath will usually draw them all out and they can then become added nutrition to your fowl. Nothing needs to be wasted.
Akso when you don't add poisonous pesticides the outer leaves that the grubs have feasted on can go as added food source to your other farm animals eg. goats, pigs, cattle, ducks, turkeys etc.
What a great video covering a wide range of sustainable gardening. 🇦🇺🤗🙏💞✌️👍👏🇺🇲
So satisfying. You inspired me to continue with my Channel 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
With me it is different; I can have raw cabbage, but in past time I couldn't had Sauerkraut. But that was Sauerkraut out of the shop(factory) Now my husband makes homemade Sauerkraut in the Sauerkrautpot, and I can eat that without any problems. Well not two days in a line, but it is great. He also fermenting with sweet pepers and union in a jar. And that eating a littlebit by a meal is great. And I just do not have any problems. Hurray for homemade!!
And with this Sauerkraut pot you using. We let it stand for 3 months.
G'D BLESS and greetings from Inge Noordam (the Netherlands/Europe)
I had never had homemade sauerkraut until this year. We did not plant cabbages in our garden (for reasons you mentioned) but also because even though I have a great portion of my heritage from Ireland and Scotland, there is only so much corned beef and cabbage one family can eat. LOL So we bought some cabbage (green and red) and made our own 'kraut - we added some jalapenos to ours with the garlic. And my goodness! We are planting some cabbage in our Fall garden and Spring garden to see which way works best for us because EVERYONE enjoyed the 'fermented cabbage! Bonus: now that we have chickens, any little critters and extra leaves will not go to waste or live to make more pests for our garden. Thank you for sharing this with us! Looks like little Hezekiah might be teething - but what a smile when he's happy!
Apples, pineapple, or mangos are good in the fermentation too😊
Hi guys, good to see the whole family. 👍🏻🙏😊❤️
As a youngster we fermented cabbage and it was fun squishing the cabbage because it squeaks.
That crock is so great its just great .no fanc gadgets. Thankyou for showing us this
Cabbage,Cabbage everywhere so good eating with much care, love them😊😅💜
Sourkrout! I make as much I can eat . I heat two tables spons every night ! I so swear it it works wonders! I use the red cabbage for more vitamins.
You don't need a brind . So massage it enough to release enough juice . I ferment mine for one to two weeks! It's great stuff! If I miss one day without eating it ? I feel the difference the next day .
Thank you for sharing your experience with preservation of food for it's what we need nowadays. Be blessed.
Nice Cabbage Mike, let’s see if the cabbage regrows😊
That’s amazing Mike, I mean the regrown from the first ones.😊
Bugs for the chickens 😊
Last year we had 4 firm smaller heads grow after we harvested the large head. Love your videos.
22:16 oh those leaves were heavenly, when I nursing my boys!!! Ugh!! 😩😩😩😩😩
FROZEN!!!!!! 😜❤️
I love fermenting my cabbage, nice harvest.
Love your videos. May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the animals and doing the cabbage. I love fried cabbage
I admire your dedication brotha stay blessed 🙏🏾💪🏾
Love this... I've got my first cabbage this year. Crazy I put it in last fall as my first fall homsted garden. I expected to harvest before winter hit but it was a early and had winter.. they got buried in 6 ft+ of snow... along with Brussel sprouts and broccoli... they all three survived!!!! And loads of lettuce and kale! Hoping my cabbage survive the bugs trying to eat it over the last week! 🙌🏼
Boiled dinner and cabbage steaks are great too 🙂
My problem is, I love cooked cabbage but can't stand sauerkraut. What a wonderful bounty you had!!
Just realized you did a live. I'll check it out after watching this
❤ we ferment our va age with apple cider vinegar, salt , and water and eat it every day !
At 12:30, perfect example of "the early bird gets the worm"
Your little guy is so cute he looks just like your last boy. I think they look like there mom
My grandpa always pulled a big leaf and layed it over the top after he cut it to keep the sun off so I do it too. I don't get big heads but it is good eating.
I add 1 tablespoon of Redmond salt to a large head of cabbage, let it sit for about 30 minutes then begin to crush and pound until I have a nice brine and shove it into a quart jar. thnx for sharing. I want to grow my own cabbage this fall. I really like sauerkraut and like to keep it on hand. But I'm the only one that eats it.
i love cabbage any way its made also when im chopping it up i love to eat the core raw i love the crunch and flavour of it lol most people just chuck it out in the garbage have a great harvest and enjoy hugsssss
Cabbage is so good cooked with potatoes and bacon then with sausage added. Really good with new potatoes.
I love to cook the dark green leaves in with the light green. So good.
Cabbage fermented sounds delicious!
are you all going to plan an outdoor prep area for your food? seems with everything you harvest and process, you all would benefit from one.
love watching you all and learning from you all
That is hilarious I was just thinking about you and your wife last night. Wondering where y'all are at not seeing you on UA-cam. There you were this morning showing how to ferment cabbage.
I have done it with 5 gallon buckets and used a whine perky later to exhaust it out just used a painter’s lid and drilled a hole for the plug
Thanks I've never made kraut before. I will have to try it. Thanks was very informative.😊
Cabbage is like each of us. We all mature at different levels.
Eeww! I’m never growing cabbage! I’m sure that the ducks and chicks love their gourmet food! Y’all are such a beautiful and blessed family, praise God! Sending much love and blessings ❤️🙏🏼
Ps: That lil munchkin is looking so precious 🥰
Lots of people that do not have a gallbladder cannot eat raw cabbage roll lettuce or corn cooked I’m sure you’ve been told some of that information but the main thing that bothers me is cabbage and I love it
A straining basket for sink drain makes life so much easier. I use the standard to plug. But when ready to drain, I switch out to the basket.
I soak my cabbages in salted water because my Grandma said it kills the bugs.
Hey, beautiful cabbages.
Lacy, I do about 1 tablespoon per large head, because my husband has heart problems and can't handle a lot of salt.
I got lost for 2 days doing a deep into how to make kraut. Cause Grams was too salty for us.
I came to the same conclusion as you: No matter how you do it, just do it! So healthy.
Now I am wanting to make Sauerkraut. Thanks for the tips.😊❤
Thank you Mike & Lacy, ive learned a lot, i never knew how to make sour kraut, i will try it Lacy's way, i enjoy all of yalls videos, stay safe, and God Bless, Hollern atya from West Tennessee
I grew cabbage broccoli and cauliflower for the first time had a great crop.. I cooked my broccoli and cabbage leaves and it taste like collards. thanks for your videos.. you remind me so much of my Brother in law. smart but so much fun.
Omg this so adorable little one is growing up so fast awesome video Rosa olbera
My momused to cook cabbage with bacon grease and salt. It was so delicious. 🙂
There are many sermons I was just thinking about just with the cabbage. It may look bad on the outside but peel the layers and you can find the good on the inside. Selah
My grandparents have huge crocks that when they don't use them to make kraut they have glass table circles that they use to make them into side tables in the living room. They don't make kraut like they did when they had 5 kids growing up at home but they do it every now and then. I hope to inherit them someday.
I want that jar!!!!! I am growing cabbage this year so hopefully I can make some.
Dehydrated cabbage is really good just as a snack.
A brine is the way my grandmothers and my mother did it.
My first round of fermenting cabbage, I went way overboard with the salt. Lol it was so salty. I had to drain the juice and add filtered water to try to cut it. But I still ate it. I just put it on salads and it adds just the right amount of salt to the salad.
We layr it and pound it to get the water out of the cabbage and salt it to taste, them put another layer and salt it and pound it until there is enough water to cove the cabbage.and continue to layer salt and pound until there is no more cabbage. We just pound or until there is enough water from the cabbage to cover the cabbage. We never add water. We use the water from the cabbage. We taste each layer to check the saltyness.
Getting bugs out of veges we use saltwater it works very well. Xoxoxoxo
My grandma had a couple of those crocks
Wow, I love your big jar for fermenting cabbage... like those chinese jars! We are also for the fermented cabbage, the raw we don't digest well.... That baby is soooo cute!
I’m growing/harvesting cabbage for the first time. Love Sour kraut. I invested in the Ball fermentation kit and WM jars. Watching Another UA-cam U video. Thank You Lacey and Mike.😊🙏
The Fit Farmer. I really enjoyed your video. God bless your channel.
Thank you!
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you all guys.
I love all leafy greens but they wreck havoc on my digestive system. I love sauerkraut but never thought to make it myself because I don't have mason jars or anything large enough to make it in. Time to head online to look for that crock Lacie has which is just beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this video! I love cabbage and kraut! Great video! I love y'all!
I love fermenting veg
Thanks lacy I've learned something new.
Oh my goodness, that is such beautiful cabbage. The baby is getting so big. Maybe I can get my sauerkraut right this time. Thank you God bless.
Enjoy your videos and your Christian example. God Bless
