The best part about raising the bresse is that they are able to breed and produce more meat without being reliant on a hatchery! They can also be crossed with larger breeds like English Orpingtons, and with an outcross like that you add in hybrid vigor

    • @TheNakidGardeners

This made me think of watching my dad . He used to just walk out and grab a chicken and ring it’s neck and it would run around with its head off. As a kid it was funny to watch. I’m not sure if I could do it at age 60.
I would very much like to start homesteading, but being a widow with a few disabilities, I’m not sure.

Excellent! I am thankful for all of the mobile chicken coops in one place! I'm leaning towards Justin Rhodes Chickshaw, because I'm a smaller person and lifting 80# bags of cement nearly killed me yesterday. Lol.
And I love hearing people's experiences with harvesting meat birds the first time. I've never known life without it. It may sound weird and kinda morbid. But as kids, it was our favorite time of year. When grampa would ring their necks, we chased them til we caught them or they dropped. It was The Best Time as a farm kid. But quickly it turned to work because I had to help pluck the feathers. (By hand and hanging from the clothesline, if they made pluckers in the 80s we were too poor to know). Anyway. Thanks for a great video. Im Now a New subscriber and so blessed to have you pop up in my feed!

I raise the chicks to half grown in a 7x7 half sloped coop and then they get turned loose in the neighborhood. They won't stay in the quarter acre 4 ft tall fenced yard .... they and the Roosters go where they want but come back to the roost at night. So they are organic Pasture raised in about 10 acres. They pretty much run over the back half of the trailer park.

We do have coyotes, hogs, raccoons and owls. For our breeder tractors we have them enclosed with a Gallagher electric fence with a solarizer. The fence is used as a first line of defense. Tractor is second. The bottom layer is hardware cloth so it will be harder to chew right thru. I do see your concerns though.
