    As a drummer these sound fantastic. And I love the physical modeling. People seem like they don’t understand the desire a drummer would have in real life. And the randomizes is presented in a genius way...

      Can it be, but write? It's a joke. Try Ezdrummer 2 or 3.There's no need to clown on the keys. Good for grooves. But I'm not using them with this vst.

      Hari Music not saying it’s better than Toontrack Superior Drummer. Just saying it’s pretty good....

    As a drummer, this setup is ALMOST perfect for me......the lack of more variety of heads & cymbals keep it on the list and not on my system....future updates are sure to address this, and then I will spend me hard earned money.
    Thanks to the review!

    I have really enjoyed using MODO Drum since it was first released. I am more of a finger drummer and do not use loops or patterns much and the playing experience is really nice. I love the depth of the sound of most of the kits, I normally gravitate to the stock Studio kit and love the ability to fine tune the drums,

    Great review as always. Sounds great. I picked the SE version up on black friday sale for $39. You only get 2 kits, but for that price it's a great way to get some real-world experience with it and see ifyou want to invest further. I suspect I will indeed upgrade once I do more work with it. I have to say, though, it's not worth paying retail for the SE version. For example, if you only get two kits, you can only have 2 different snare drums or two different kick drums to choose from when making a custom kit. It's very limited compared to the permutations of the 10 kits. But that's not a complaint, it's just something to be aware of. I recommend getting the SE on sale if you can find it on sale. Otherwise save for the full version and avoid SE all together. I think IK multimedia need to be congratulated on this product, it's truly innovative and useful.

    Your videos are SO GREAT! the only thing I ever dread is having to nearly have a heart attack at the end because I forget how LOOOOWWWWWWWWW your vocals are compared to your intro and outro. PLEASE NORMALIZE!!!

    Modo Has had Bad Reviews... I Think "Sub Zero" Comment was correct. I Like my Sounds Dry. Like the GUI Starsky.. Like that you can tune the sounds...You will be good at doing 15 years later Vid, Where are we now with Virtual Instruments.. Good MIC EQ.👍

    My main issue is that the drums sound like they all have reverb on them, even in the smallest room setting.

    • @Willigrow
      @Willigrow 5 років тому +7

      you can turn down the room pot for every element, or turn down the room channel in the mixer for the whole kit, to get only dry sound. Also turn down elements from the overheads to make it evem dryer if that is something you want.

    • @remaharman2598
      @remaharman2598 3 роки тому +2

      Yes you can on two levels in rooms and in the individual drum sends to rev however Beware when any VST instrument swims in reverb it's like deodorant its there to cover the stink or in this case to try and improve the sound
      in this VST the cymbals are real samples and the drums are synthetic it's incredibly clever and opens up some excellent innovations but mapping to electronic drum kits is a bit hard to find info on
      Will it map to Roland has it Mapping presets ?? Your guess is as good as mine Modo really should've explained this clearly if they want to step into the electronic drum kit triggering side of things but I think this software is for finger drummers or am I missing a whole chapter in the manual

    Hey Starsky, Whats the best VSTi Drum Instrument Outside of Kontakt in your opinion ❓

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  5 років тому +2

      It's a difficult question as there are so many good ones its hard to know them well enough to make a judgement. For me... my favourite kit is the SSD5 Blackbird Kit, but SSD5 is a bit clunky. I do like BFD3 but there are so many options I can disappear into a wormhole and reappear with completely the wrong thing! I get bored loading different samples and it becomes difficult to know which version you prefer most etc. But the sounds are really good.
      But... SSD requires ilok and BFD is huge so neither is good for my laptop. MODO fills a gap for me here, and after playing with it for a while its really grown on me. Quick loading times, flexible and quality sounds. I've been surprised how quickly I got things up and running... hence the video.
      I really wish it worked on the Mac Pro in the studio. AVX tech isn't on older chips and more software is starting to use it. Massive X for example.

      @@StarskyCarr Yes, but editing the grooves can only be rewritten with a key. Very slow. That's why it's only due to the grooves. Editing it, I'll just do it in the ezdrummer

    Having used Superior Drummer for a decade, BFD2 and 3, Addictive Drums, Steven Slate and NI's series I can honestly say that MODO drums does not get on my list of usable instruments. Especially not when playing libraries on a high-end kit for customers. Nowadays there is no competition. Superior Drummer 3 is far beyond everyone else in terms of realism. I appreciate BFD3 in it's own right though, but the tweakability is not there, and it also has issues with sound realism at higher tempos, regardless of genre. Steven Slate? If you program simpler metal/rock beats they may be fine. The Blackbird and Terry Date expansions didn't do much since SSD always feels (is) preprocessed and no breathability.

      Yes from a real drummers stand point superior is superior but Modo has some interesting concepts that Evan superior lacks however your right also there is no help anywhere on how to map modo to an electronic kit so would be interesting to know did it map easy ? Especially the hats they I have found are always difficult to get accurate

    Sometimes the kicks sound good and sometimes they're really oddly squidgy and fake. The hihats are very low and have almost no hiss. The snares sound more like a tom.

      Not a fan of it then? :) I’ve not found that, it’s worked for me so far. What settings/kit etc goes a bit squidgy? Genuinely interested in what you’ve experienced btw..

      Remember that the snare is close mic'd.... It sounds pretty spot on to me for raw. You have a lot of options here to get away from the upfront tone too.
