I've seen some comments to the effect that the assembling/glueing part is only to get to the painting part. I find glooing parts together very theraputic, especially when they fit well together (like this on here). Very good vid Andy.
@William Koppos - I could not agree more! When I read the comments on this and other modelling videos, I get the district impression that building the model is seen as a chore and a lot of people would be happy to buy a completed model and just paint it!
Its always nice to watch Andys building. Real professional work, going a->b easily understanding way can educate same time. One best model builders on UA-cam.
At last! A ANDY build! Man I have missed your builds, the classical music segments are like the return of an old friend... now the kit itself, although not my era ( I’m a modern armour man theses days...) have to say it’s beautifully designed and put together....imagine the aftermarket kits for drivers interior and engine decks!! A stunning build and very useful for those who buy this....welcome back big fella, it’s been waaaaaaaaaaay to long!
Outstanding build video Andy. Great looking kit and, when done right, looks like a pretty good step by step build for the modeler. Many of us appreciate you still taking the time to do these construction/painting/weathering videos. Your success story is truly one for the ages and very briefly meeting you at the IPMS Nats and watching you work your vendor table you’re still the humble guy that knows his roots. Thanks again and always look forward to the next video release😊
Really looking forward to getting mine. This one will be easier to built than the Dragon in 1/35th. I hope you show the marking options in the next video. The aftermarket will go wild with this one.
Always love your builds and reviews Andy so, informative. Just bought a 440 hundred kit collection of vintage 1960’s 70’s and 80’s, WWII kits some real nice stuff from Hawk, Aurora, Microscale, HobbyCraft etc. Keep up the great work it’s people love you that keep the hobby moving forward. That’s my speciality is buying and selling vintage kits.
That is one beautiful looking kit and model. I love how everything just snaps into place, so you can very easily test fit each piece. Can't wait for part 2
Andy that's an exciting build love that Armor!!! Wow 1/16 th what a beast !! Thank you for getting back into Armor building Cant wait for the painting and finishing effects!!! Carry on Andy !!! Excellent !!!
Hello Andy, from what I can see on other models and pictures it seems that the piece 27:35 are used to lift the vent. Very nice model. I am jealous every time I see you doing does beautiful models. Can't wait to have the space and time to do them. Great work.
No, those are the holders for the antennas when stored / not used. There are no "vents to lift" outside. In the engine bay there are shields that close off the radiators, but they are operated from within the StuG.
Had mine pre-ordered for a couple of months. Can't wait to get it and start building. Because I am 59 years old, with not too good close eyesight. I figure this kit will be easier to build and paint, than a 1/35 scale one.
Hi Andy hope all is well and good great video again they are to hold up the grills when working on the tank as not to hit the crew as it would fall forward if not held in place. God bless to you all,
Just ordered this from your site, will sit nicely alongside the Pz.KpFw.1 Ausf B that I am in the process of weathering, the detail on these 1/16 scale models certainly stands out.
Hello Andy . I'm a new Follower of your very amazing Site but watchung your Vids for such a long time. I 've ordered my kit instantly after watch this Vid. I'm German and the Stug 3 is a historically monument in german history, despite the criminal regime whoms engineerd it. It's a wonderful peace of engeneering abilities. Fantastic Vid,keep going. With nice greets from Germany. Markus
Just a little tidbit you, Swissland bought all of the mg42 parts an pieces as well as all of the all of the machinery that made it and all of the ammo to. It still looks like it was made then.. also the gun is still better than the newer guns now.
I really like this model . Years and years ago I had a Stug a Dragon 1/35. I'm as seriously tempted to buy this s from Andy and build this 1/16. It was the most effective AFV that the Germans had.
Very interesting high quality model. Two things I must point out: the late production tracks are absolutely the same for the both the Pz.Kpfw IV and the StuG III but it was longer on the Pz.Kpfw IV by simply adding more tracks! Finally those lines on the nets are much needed fuel vents as all German tanks are highly inflammable gas!
Things have certainly come a long way since the Airfix models I used to build in the 50's another great video, and what detail in that model and you make it look so easy !!
Is Andy pulling a Radar O'Reilly? This week he gets a section of track in the mail, next week the engine? Maybe a road wheel? This time next year is Andy gonna due a 1:1 scale Panzer III, IV or a StuG?
At least you'd have a decent amount of space to do something with and large enough access doors to see the interior. At that scale some LED lighting (in the right space) would be nice too.
@@sammy_dog I doubt its impossible to the guys that are pretty good at that sort of stuff. The engine bay would quite a lot, although I suppose the normal NI-CAD batteries used might be too large.
I'm a little late to the party, but thank you for the build Andy! What an amazing kit! I do wish you had left the suspension working as that to me is a hugely attractive part of a model like this, but I understand why you didnt!
Outstanding job sir! My guess as to track damage would be a Soviet 14.5mm tungsten core round fired from a PTRS or PTRD anti tank rifle. A known tactic by Russians was to aim for the tracks hoping to cause a break and aim at vision devices to blind the crew.
What an awesome kit, plus it's 1/16th scale, man!!! It'd be perfect for an older fella like me with a bit of the shakes.. $100 bucks, that really isn't that bad of a price, I still can't afford one right now, but I think I might save a bit of my pension dollars toward it.
Surprisingly this is very similar to a 1/35 scale build, rather than the more remote controlled vehicle orientation typical of 1/16 scale. Apart from scratching my head about where to put it (I still have a Porsche turreted 1/16 scale Tamiya Tiger 2 in my stash) I'm rather inclined to spend some cash here. I'll wait for it to arrive in the UK though as I suspect postage is going to be quite expensive.
With the engine deck and transmission cover hatches being 'workable' can we expect additional interior components being released in the near future? Hopefully a full interior kit.
Super kit Andy - and a nice build to your credit. Was wondering if a "saukopf" mantlet option would be in the offing. Would give modelers a choice for building the variant of the StuG.
Hi Andy, I cant even hazard a guess as to what those little brackets / rods over the engine intakes might be for. You could try contacting a fellow You Tuber Nicholas Moran, AKA The Chieftain on his site "The Chieftains hatch". His site is primarily armour related as he was a tanker in the National Guard. He is originally from Ireland and a model maker to boot. He is an associate of a guy called Hillary Doyle; another Irish man, who is the motherload of information on WW2 German armour. If he doesn't know what they are I'd take them off, probably not meant to be there. 😄 Great build as always, I cant wait for mine to arrive in early December.

Heck, all the hard work has been done in development [as it should be], so that this kit is 'shake and bake' as far as assembly goes. It is practically a weekend build... Clearly someone gets the notion that people don't want to headbutt a brickwall over and over, and just want to get to the painting - make it come alive. With this kind of approach, I hope there will be other 1/16 Das Werk kits... I certainly wish they'd announced a 1/16 RSO/01, instead of the upcoming 1/35 kit which seems like it might be a licensed re-pop of the old problematic Dragon kit, reading between the words on Das Werk's own website...
I find more pleasure from making than painting. However, that doesn't mean that i want to spend hours fiddling with small pieces that the carpet monster takes or instructions where its totally unclear how the damn parts are supposed to fit together or exactly where they're meant to go on the damn thing. I also don't want to spend hours with filler or sanding either.
I've seen some comments to the effect that the assembling/glueing part is only to get to the painting part. I find glooing parts together

The fighting compartment will need aftermarket too. Even just looking through the hatches, you can see that lots of items are missing.

incredible detail.

Wow.....the largest scale model tanks I built as a kid in the 60's were 1:32 scale and I thought that was huge.
Things have certainly come a long way since the Airfix models I used to build in the 50's another great video, and what detail in that model and you make it look so easy !!
The "real" Tracks indeed used as Armor... because they were painted in three-tone-camo.... love them :D you did a very good job on the Build, Andy !
Thank you very much!
Beautiful detail on this bit of armour 😊👍
Just preordered mine.
The potential for ultra detailing is immense. Can't wait to get my grubby little Mitt's on one 😂 another great video Andy 👍
