When you use some foam with reflective surface, you have to leave a space for air in between. This allows a little barrier for condensation and to keep the radiant heat from absorbing and transferring into the building.
If it's not possible to leave a space - like in this case - it would be better to put the reflective foil surface on the inside. The way it was done here, the reflective surface is physically in contact with the metal wall, so it is doing nothing at all. Placed on the inside, away from the metal wall, it actually still reflects some heat *through the foam*. The reflective foil is just as reflective on the other side, even if you can't see it ;)
This is a great idea. I’m going to do it, but not to keep heat out, to keep heat in during the winter. The roof support beams are the perfect size to accommodate a 2x4. I did that any put 2x4’s got supports to the floor. It can now hold 2 feet of wet snow without a problem. These sheds are great.
Guys, thank you for just getting to the point and showing us how, so tired of vids that spend half the time boring us with crap, and still don't show you what to do.. Nice.
I got myself a small 6 x 8’ wooden shed, and it does get super hot inside. I live in northern California and sometimes we get hot summers. Anyhow, I bought the same brand of insulation you have here and I even doubled the insulation for the ceiling because that’s where the heat was coming from most of the time. So the ceiling has two form boards up against it. Double layer of protection I guess. Now I notice that even in the peak time of the day, it still pretty comfortable on the inside. I could actually go inside the shed and spend time in there. Brilliant stuff this is! Have you also considered adding an extra layer of insulation on your ceiling? Because that’s where most of the heat comes from.
Thank you for this video!!! I’m just like you in comparing the prices of the wood and metal shed! Lol I went with the exact same one you got. Now I’m watching how to deal with the condensation issue!
I’m trying to do the same to shed and also install a standing ac for my dogs this summer . Thank u having a lil issue with the cross bars but over all easy
Hi, thank you for the video! My son is traveling a few hours to get my shed up (8x10 metal from Lowes) in a few weeks and I’m trying to have all material ready to go. Shed, anchor things, sub floor, 8 pieces of r tech. Could you please tell me what the brackets and blue tape are called that you used? Thank you so much! I can’t wait till we (my son-but I’ll supervise 😉) get this done!😛✌🏽
Hell yeah, I’ve got a 10x14 that I use as my workshop, they’re really not bad if you have a solid foundation and do the hacks to them to make them better.
I have a small wooden shed. It is insulated it has small vents on the sides to let warm air out and I insulated it with similar foam insulation you have. It works pretty well. For the winter time when it’s cold I cover the vents and put a small heater inside. It has become my small little man cave.
What made you decide to use a foam board vs a expanding spray foam? Reason I'm asking is because I live in florida next to the beach and I'm wondering f spray foam would help with weather resistance.
got the same shed used and just finished building it, going to do a similar thing for sure. Literally built it for a studio for my drums and some video equipment. would you recommend using wood for walls after that insulation to help with sound?
We have a metal shed that looks very similar to yours. Great info on insulating it. Curious if you have added windows to it since you made this video. I’d like to turn our metal shed into a greenhouse for plants that do not do well outside in the winter. Thank you!
I have a large metal shed and planning to do something like this. What about maintaining air flow? Did you work around any areas to make sure you get air to flow in or out? I know that mine has areas of daylight that are made for that. And I saw in your images that you have some daylight coming in near the roofline. But did you cover them all up?
I've been thinking about converting metal sheds into a tiny house to see if it could be done I haven't seen anyone else do it + it would be different the US wants to help stop homeless donate property let us build tiny house villages for families and homeless
Do you happen to know how Wel these Boards hold up against humidity? I live in FL and it’s pretty humid during the summers even colder days are still humid surprisingly.
I would love my shed to get frozen....instead I live in Australia, my shed gets 75c (170f) easily in summer. The cold is easy to deal with, the heat not so
Could you use the panels foil side in? Getting ready to do my new Tuff Shed. I used roll insulation on last one. I think the panels will be cheaper. (In Las Vegas)
I would like to try and live in one of these but I have no place to put one. It would be so much cheaper than paying rent or buying a house. I have seen these aluminum sheds in my area for incredibly cheap prices. Thid would be perfect for me I live by myself anyway and I don't need anything fancy.
I put one inch holes near the roofline of my shed, then covered the holes with screen so no bugs would get in Via hot glue . seems to be same temp as outside
But by the time you spent the extra money on all that insulation, would it have ended up near the price had you just purchased a plastic vinyl shed? Or just built a wood one? Im regretting getting this shed now that i see its EXTREMELY hot and i now have to spend even more money to make it usable. Not as "cheap" of a shed as i originally thought in the long run.
Going to buy one and make an office. My only problem is having enough room for standing VR gaming however everything else would fit. Gonna mod it out with windows, AC/heater and power outlets after insulation. I'm very happy to know I'll be learning a lot of skills first hand.
OVER THE LONG TERM THERE is a good chance for condensation between the insulation and metal, in the winter/changing temps = rust of the metal...anyone do this and see how it goes after 2-3 years?
I have this exact shed and looking to insulate it and make it look nice inside to create a music studio. this video is perfect. But will this also help with cold as well as heat? I live in new York, it gets pretty humid, rains a lot in summer spring and winter and during winter it's often below freezing. How much will this help in the cold, if I put the pink foam and wood finish? Will it be enough if I add a decent heater inside or will it still let the cold air in even with a heater on? Anyone that has any ideas please comment, thanks

Makes sense....Good man
@@smdmicrosoldering I'm a woman, but I appreciate it

How would you go about leaving space? I’m currently looking to begin insulating mines.
@@59PopTartzMaybe put wood or pvc spacers?

Man, thanks for this video! I'm going to start today. I live in Menifee and it's basically desert, so this is awsome!
Thanks for this video, this definitely takes the intimidation out of it!!
Glad it was helpful!

Give the video a like and share to help us grow!
Thanks!
Thank you!
I’ve been wanting to do the same thing your a life saver lol now I can show my wife
Thanks!

Great video, have the exact same shed and am going to insulate it like you did. Definitely need it here in Az.👍😎
Agreed
Lol this az heat brought me here. Mesa az I'm the house
Lol. Me too. I have a 10×17 from harbor freight. Gonna insulate the inside first then worry about the metal after.
I’m trying to do the same to shed and also install a standing ac for my dogs this summer . Thank u having a lil issue with the cross bars but over all easy
They sell DiY mini splits at home depot for $900!

For sure. If you make them nice inside, you can't tell the difference.

Double up thickness on the roof for much more effective insulation
Thanks
Triple up thickness on the roof for much much more effective insulation.
Quadruple thickness on the roof for a much more effective insulation
@@white6deltaInfinite roofs for the ultimate insulation.
Quintuple up the thickness on the roof for much more effective insulation
How about during summer time? Will it gets too hot inside??
Put mine up a couple years back and just thought of this. Definitely will insulate cuz it bakesº
How long did it take to install insulation?
How much temperature difference did you get?
It's noticeable.
what brand shed is that? Not all have the horizontal support half way up the wall..
I got it from Lowe’s. I have no idea what it is.
What made you decide to use a foam board vs a expanding spray foam?

Metal sheds have lots of advantages so it's a good choice.
agreed
got the same shed used and just finished building it, going to do a similar thing for sure. Literally built it for a studio for my drums and some video equipment. would you recommend using wood for walls after that insulation to help with sound?
Can you stand in the shed comfortably without your head hitting?
We have a metal shed that looks very similar to yours. Great info on insulating it. Curious if you have added windows to it since you made this video. I’d like to turn our metal shed into a greenhouse for plants that do not do well outside in the winter. Thank you!
Does this stop condensation
That I do not know
Did you ventilate the shed also?
I'm going to.
How many panels you had to get
Can u list a material list
No condensation issues?
Nope, but I live in AZ.
What about putting some venting and a whirlybird (turbine or spiny roof thing lol) to help with removing the heat?
Not sure if the tin roof is strong enough
What was the longterm effect
Less damage to the stowed gear from heat
Hey guys! Did you have any issue with the water leaks too from the rain? I have an 8x6 of this and i have water leaks. How did you fix it? Thanks
How much space did you lose by doing that?
I did the exact same thing with my shed using mold resistant pink foam insulation like the brackets
Yup, that's better foam. we can get away with this foam in AZ because of the dry heat. otherwise, pink foam to the rescue!
I have a large metal shed and planning to do something like this. What about maintaining air flow? Did you work around any areas to make sure you get air to flow in or out? I know that mine has areas of daylight that are made for that. And I saw in your images that you have some daylight coming in near the roofline. But did you cover them all up?
I should have made some vent for it, but never got around to it. It would be quite easy to do.
Hi, Thanks for the content. What did you say at 1:08? What is the product name for humid, hot, dense area?
Pink foam board
Would this work for water proofing ?
No, this just works for installation
Adding vents to each gable may help
That won’t prevent a fire ?
A fire? No, but it does reduce heat by quite a bit.
This might be a dumb question but does this also keep the cold out?
Yea
yes
How much did u pay for all of that roughly im working on turning my metal shed into a tiny house and need insulation for weather and noise thank you
Not much at all. Was between 10 and 20 bucks per sheet and I got 8 sheets
Thanks!
Is it adhesive?
steep., it's just pressure-fitted in there.
How much did that insulation cost you in total?
How many sheets you need for that sheed?
I think 6
What would you use as a door if you took out the shed sliding doors,
I would make them out of wood, or just weld thin steel together.
What thickness is that
One and a 1/2 inch but 1" would work
Camouflage Netting or Shade Cloth suspended over the exterior Metal Walls would offer additional Heat reduction.
Thanks
How many of foams you bought ? I want to do the same thing ? Thanks
Took some 8-10 sheets
What’s your opinion on using an adhesive to mount them to the ceiling instead of brackets? Is that bad practice?? I have no clue what I’m doing.
Probably liquid nails
This started out as a metal shed now because of the heat i have to do insulating but the walls sure stay cooler
Foil side should be on inside, no?
I've been thinking about converting metal sheds into a tiny house to see if it could be done I haven't seen anyone else do it + it would be different the US wants to help stop homeless donate property let us build tiny house villages for families and homeless

I honestly don’t remember

Get the pink foam board. It will do a lot better
Insulate your shed… so my lawnmower doesn’t get cold in the winter 😂😂😂
It’s more of an Arizona thing
I would love my shed to get frozen....instead I live in Australia, my shed gets 75c (170f) easily in summer.
The cold is easy to deal with, the heat not so
People like me do that have to live in these.
You have never owned a metal shed have you? Condensation is a huge issue if you don’t insulate them…
I am in AZ as well and looking to do something similar. What is the heat difference inside the shed compared to outside in the summer?
Much Better.
I remember being able to buy sheets of plywood for the cost of a fucking 2x4 now... That's SINGULAR "a", 1, 2x4
@3dp_edc damn how long ago was that?
Would this keep it warm inside too during the winter? I bought one for a little extra office space and sometimes work at night.
Yes, it would
Could you use the panels foil side in? Getting ready to do my new Tuff Shed. I used roll insulation on last one. I think the panels will be cheaper. (In Las Vegas)

@@CrushedEMTB 5 ,one inch holes on each side, yes like a vent. heat rises, so I put the 'vents' near the top.

Thanks for the video, but what's with the really tense music? I was expecting someone to lose a leg.
I been on the fence of a shed. But the price of wood and prebuilt ones seems outrageous. I might be doing this in the next couple of weeks
Worth every penny
OVER THE LONG TERM THERE is a good chance for condensation between the insulation and metal, in the winter/changing temps = rust of the metal...anyone do this and see how it goes after 2-3 years?
Very common in Australia.
That is not an aluminum shed. It's galvanized steel.
No Drywall.... a lite wood would be perfect with that basic frame.... Looks great though ✨
I thought about it. I'm still thinking about it. Maybe here soon I'll do it.
Whitewash the roof for greater reflectivity.
Dang it, I wish you told this to me during the summer, lol!
What exactly is whitewashing??
3:10 dudes off the chain...
Are you in Arizona or something? I see lots of sun, but your back yard has 0 grass. lol
Yes, good guess.
I have this shed and dog kennels are like $1-8k I am going to cut out a square big enough for an air conditioner to sit.
Why all that. JUST BULD A Shield over your smaller Shied. Cost
It wasn't that hard lol
lumber prices are criminal

Yessir!
That shed is not aluminum. It's steel. You do realize an aluminum shed would cost more than 3 times that steel shed you bought .
Miss use of language but yes I knew it was steel.
Lumber prices are still obscene in 2024.
